Shaving leaves bumps and there's long wait times between waxes so what's the downside to just pulling the hair out myself instead of paying someone to do it with wax strip? What am I missing here why doesn't everyone (who wants to remove hair) just pull it out themselves?

Not sure if we're even still removing hair in 2026 but I'm annoyed with it so it's gotta go

Epilator. I’ve been using one for years. It did used to hurt but I think I’ve gotten used to it. I do legs, underarms and bikini line. A quick trim with scissors.

ImmortalSnowman · 08/02/2026 00:08

@PluckedUp Use the IPL machine. I leave it a few days after epilation and use an IPL machine every couple of days over everything. Skin Doctor's Hair No More afterwards helps too.

I'm 66. At various times I have shaved my pubes, used a hair removal cream (Veet), and been professionally waxed (ranging from a tidy up to having everything removed). Having used an epilator (once, briefly) on a leg, there is absolutely zero chance that I would ever use it on my fanny.
Also have never tried plucking with tweezers - will be interested to hear how you get on.
Of all the different methods, I think Veet is the best - it's quick, easy, and effective.
Having said that, I gave up all bodily hair removal during Covid, and never started again.
I do, however, have a lip/chin/brow wax every couple of months or so.
Will be interested in your plucking feedback...

My epilator has interchangeable heads so it comes with some sort of beard trimmer thing.
If you epilate regularly it stops hurting .
Word of warning. Got my under arm caught in it once- that bruised and started.
This is epilator number 2. Number 1 destroyed itself when it got caught in my sock while epilating my leg.
I wouldn't want it caught in my nether regions- the destruction was massive.

Not going to lie, in a moment of boredom and sick of shaving rash’s, I attempted it. Some areas fine, some were so painful. Did it in stages. Got bored and shaved the rest 😂

I have recently bought a double sided electric shaver, one side trims the thickest then the other side to get close to skin. It’s not as close as shaving with a razor but doesn’t irritate my skin.

Edited

I can’t use creams, because of sensitive cream, so I get waxed every 5-6 weeks. I can’t imagine sitting there plucking them out 😳

Sartre · 08/02/2026 08:06

That sounds absolutely agonising and time consuming, there’s just no way. It isn’t even practical tbh, how do you pluck close to the perineum area?

I can’t use creams for the same reason.

I think it started as I had a couple of ingrown hairs and I just carried on 🤣 way before I had a child and all the free time in world!

Janeeyrre · 08/02/2026 08:14

I use a laser machine at home, im pretty much hairless on legs and under arms.
`Now doing bikini and between bum cheeks.

I think plucking would take too long and with me it irritates the follicle and leaves a red bump, unless it's the odd facial hair which is finer.

Nochoiceofuser · 08/02/2026 09:00

Have you not heard of depilatory creams/lotions? Yes they're (temporarily) smelly but gentler than waxing and fewer ingrown hairs than shaving. Plucking them out 1 by 1 would be very painful and no guarantee that you will get a smooth bump-free finish anyway (hairs can snap off at skin level)

scottishGirl · 08/02/2026 09:06

I used veet wax strips, bikini specific ones, during COVID. Admittedly didn't do a full Brazilian! But I managed with them fine.

Planetmuff · 08/02/2026 09:11

You have not seen my bush or you would not ask

Usernamenotav · 08/02/2026 12:39

Sounds slow and painful, but you and anyone else can do whatever they want.
There's also hair removal cream
Or wax at home yourself.

Mytattooisbiggerthanyours · 08/02/2026 18:54

What do nurses, GPs and gynaecologists think about all this do you think?

ImFineItsAllFine · 08/02/2026 19:02

I tried an epilator on my bikini line a couple of times. Just about made it through the pain (large glass of wine beforehand helped) but the ingrown hairs from the regrowth were horrific.

Try epilation- you will only do it once.

Sugar Wax at home would be more efficient.
