Shaving leaves bumps and there's long wait times between waxes so what's the downside to just pulling the hair out myself instead of paying someone to do it with wax strip? What am I missing here why doesn't everyone (who wants to remove hair) just pull it out themselves?

Not sure if we're even still removing hair in 2026 but I'm annoyed with it so it's gotta go

I used to use a Wilkinson Sword trimmer thing. That was good. Then I got waxes. I got an ingrown hair and spot one time though and that hurt. Now I just trim with nail scissors or shave the sides. Boyfriend would love me to get a Hollywood but I’d hate the regrowth.

To the weirdos in my messages

This is not a sexy thread.

This is a woman in a cost of living crisis, sick of the bush and fed up of trying to get booked for a wax.

I just wanted to know if it could be done 😭😂

(Starting to think a key differential here may be the people saying it would hurt?!)

FFS. More than one weirdo is turned on by this? Bleugh. I hope youve reported them.

I support your scientific research but I am pro letting the bush be wild and free so I will not be replicating your results. On the rare times I shave the ingrowing hairs are horrific. Sounds like some are more prone to them than others.

Smoothandsilky · 07/02/2026 08:39

Can’t recommend lasering enough! Had that done 30 years ago although now wish I’d gone further with it! That has kept bikini line free of bumps and rashes.

I also epilate where it’s safe! I used to pluck - but like a previous poster has said with age comes lack of flexibility and eyesight which make that trickier now!! I’m not 90 btw.

For the more delicate bits I wouldn’t put the epilator near, I’ve a little rotary electric razor which does the business brilliantly and doesn’t give me rashes.

For those preferring things au natural, brilliant, you do you! I am quite happy to go through the faff of personal grooming to keep the benefits it brings me.

Not tried creams, they scare me, peppermint shower gel killed me enough!!

Oh I didn’t take it that way don’t worry, I meant just from chatting to my pals some of us are really affected by them and others not so much!

I get a Hollywood wax (everything off), but as I’ve been waxing for years, the regrowth is really sparse. To make an appointment worthwhile, I have to push it out 2-3 months vs the typical 4-6 weeks.

I had my last wax 2nd December and 2 months on and I’ve got some sparse regrowth along the bikini line/groin area on both the sides and a few hairs on my actual flaps, but the entire pubic bone area above genuinely only has 2 hairs.

If I had the time and the patience, I absolutely could maintain my wax by plucking the hairs as they come through. But frankly, I couldn’t be arsed to spend time doing it, plus some of the hairs with the thicker roots bloody sting when you pull them and at least with waxing each strip removes multiple hairs in one go, so the pain is at least efficient!

I have been considering trying out home waxing (hot wax) starting with upper lip or underarms which have leeway if you go wrong and then graduating to legs, brows, and possibly fanny. That’s the only one I suspect I’ll need to drag my DH into helping me pull off the wax, especially the strips in the inside of your labia and on my bumhole. He strongly suspect he will struggle to stay on task, so I’m leaning towards just booking a normal appointment with my beauty therapist! 😂

INSIDE YOUR LABIA????

Rainbowdottie · 07/02/2026 09:01

I’ve had waxing for about 30 years. Tbh I wouldn’t pluck and I think if I couldn’t get a wax regularly or she was continuing to be booked up too much (which I think is what the reason is as to why you just don’t and get waxed?) I would just find another waxer

now don’t get me wrong, I don’t say that lightly, a good waxer is hard to come by. I’d be loathed to leave my lady…and believe me in 30 years I’ve met some amazing waxers and some truly awful ones…but if needs must, I’d be looking elsewhere.

but I’m intrigued, let us know how the plucking goes!!

No, that would be an eye watering experience. I’m an 80’s child. I keep my hair, just trim and shave the sides.
All this shaving, plucking, waxing, pulling will give you a droopy vulva.

Bikergran · 07/02/2026 09:05

Apparently the Japanese do.

Plasticdreams · 07/02/2026 09:09

I just shave it off every 3-4 days and that does the trick, no itching, no bumps. I’ve been doing that for 25 years

could explain the biology behind the ‘droopy vulva’ comment please 😂

Basing that on my own experience. 😆 maybe it’s just my own that is droopy.

Smoothandsilky · 07/02/2026 09:16

Jesus, my boobs are droopy enough, do I really have to worry about a droopy vulva, 🤣

Also hairs inside the labia, yep it’s a thing, as you get older, - although not all that common apparently - as I found out to my embarrassment when it came up on a drunken night out. So don’t start panicking yet!

Might need further research before making such sweeping statements 🤣

Another delightful joy. My chin hair grows at great speed. It’s a daily job. I’ve been busy this week. I could run my fingers across the little 2cm spikes last night before hacking them off.

ToriMounj · 07/02/2026 10:04

Get a lady shaver/bikini trimmer, short blunt not so short that it upset your skin

EmeraldShamrock000 · 07/02/2026 10:05

My sisters and I have an agreement if any of us are in a coma, we will shave the chin hair.

MeganM3 · 07/02/2026 10:10

I have tried epilating, as I epilate my legs. Can only manage to top section, nothing underneath as it’s painful / think you need to be somewhat skilled.
So I have a full wax every couple of months then epilate to tidy the top & sides in between. Shaving is awful for me, very uncomfortable for the days following. Not worth it. Epilating is basically the same as plucking but a machine does it.

TalulahJP · 07/02/2026 10:22

an epilator is like tweezers yanking out the individual hairs.

the broader the head the more it yanks with each turn of its wheels/blades/whatever’s inside an epilator lol.

i think it would be too sore for me these days. im more if a comfy shoes person nowadays!!

myself, i use a trimmer when i can be bothered, which isn’t often as i domt expect anyone to see that area of me any time soon tbh, unless im run over by a bus or something snd end up in a hospital ward!!

I've a hard enough time keeping my chin hair down

I need to remember to look in the mirror more often. The other day I realised I had a chin hair so long that it walked into the room five minutes before the rest of me Blush

I told my husband off for not letting me know and he claimed not to have noticed but that has to be a lie - it must have been spiking his eye out every time I came near him

Mytattooisbiggerthanyours · 07/02/2026 10:34

Fine by me but don’t do it in a garden centre.
