Shaving leaves bumps and there's long wait times between waxes so what's the downside to just pulling the hair out myself instead of paying someone to do it with wax strip? What am I missing here why doesn't everyone (who wants to remove hair) just pull it out themselves?

Not sure if we're even still removing hair in 2026 but I'm annoyed with it so it's gotta go

I think you would have a huge risk of infected hair follicles.
Unless it is growing down your legs can you not just leave it alone?

FieryA · 07/02/2026 07:29

Plucking? I am honestly confused as to how that works. I use Superdrug's bikini cream and a razor for intimate parts.

PersephoneParlormaid · 07/02/2026 07:31

I have an electric razor and cut it at a number 2. Number 1 is too short and prickly.

I've decided I'm going to give it a go when I get chance later today, and report back

For science

Blimey nothing at all on TV worth watching? No jigsaw?

Why on earth would there be an infection risk?

Because when you pluck a hair you leave a tiny hole and infection can get in, especially given the location.

Rowgtfc72 · 07/02/2026 07:38

Epilator. Use an epilator.
Used home wax once. It bloody hurt. Dh laughed and called me a wuss so I put a strip on his back. He soon stopped laughing.
Definitely epilator.

Chestnutmarenutjob · 07/02/2026 07:42

Isn’t that what an epilator does, plucks the hair?

I shave but only when I can be bothered (never)

How dirty is your pubis area?

Idontthinkicandothisanymore · 07/02/2026 07:49

I get a Hollywood wax (everything off), but as I’ve been waxing for years, the regrowth is really sparse. To make an appointment worthwhile, I have to push it out 2-3 months vs the typical 4-6 weeks.

I had my last wax 2nd December and 2 months on and I’ve got some sparse regrowth along the bikini line/groin area on both the sides and a few hairs on my actual flaps, but the entire pubic bone area above genuinely only has 2 hairs.

If I had the time and the patience, I absolutely could maintain my wax by plucking the hairs as they come through. But frankly, I couldn’t be arsed to spend time doing it, plus some of the hairs with the thicker roots bloody sting when you pull them and at least with waxing each strip removes multiple hairs in one go, so the pain is at least efficient!

I have been considering trying out home waxing (hot wax) starting with upper lip or underarms which have leeway if you go wrong and then graduating to legs, brows, and possibly fanny. That’s the only one I suspect I’ll need to drag my DH into helping me pull off the wax, especially the strips in the inside of your labia and on my bumhole. He strongly suspect he will struggle to stay on task, so I’m leaning towards just booking a normal appointment with my beauty therapist! 😂

I’m absolutely crying. What a start to the day. Thank you

How dirty is your pubis area?

Oh dear god.
It is an area which gets warm and can sweat. Warm and moist is a happy place for infection.
I am not saying anybody is dirty.
I will say that you are obtuse and rude though.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 07/02/2026 07:54

Don’t get too reliant on this method though OP - by the time you’re mid 50s you won’t be able to see properly enough to focus down there and you won’t be able to bend forwards for long enough to rip ‘em out without your back screaming. But on the plus side you won’t care by then so crack on. Don’t ask me how I know 😬

Cricketashes · 07/02/2026 07:58

You'd be there hours surely? Who has time or patience for that?

nondrinker1985 · 07/02/2026 08:01

I just leave it now kind of buy swimming costumes that come lower…I’ve even on occasions not even bothered shaving my legs and I’m bloody hairy! Very dark hair. I just think look if you want - it’s hair.

BlackCat14 · 07/02/2026 08:02

Hair removal cream followed by OYO pubic skincare works a dream for me. The thought of sitting there plucking each individual pube sounds pretty grim.

Lemondrizzle4A · 07/02/2026 08:06

This reminded me that my dm never needed to shave her legs because she had used a pumice stone on them and the hairs never grew back. No idea how painful it was but maybe worth trying. 🤣🤣

I will say I'm not sure why people think it would take hours? Bit like eyebrows if you're doing a full reshape you don't meticulously remove hair one by one if you've a larger area to get rid of, you just crack on and only do small pieces where it counts. I would only do a one-hair-pluck to pick up any stragglers (like after a wax)

Honestly this thread has turned into such a cracker with some of these stories 😂nice to read a few other PP have driven themselves to manual hair removal, which is what I was curious about in the first place, but then there's pumice mother and the wax strip husband upthread that really have made me laugh

I agree. In these awful times we do need light relief and I have been chuckling my way through this thread. Some images that come to mind are hilarious.
well done to the poster for giving us all a laugh even if unintentional.

Do you know what, this is a valid point, I'm pretty sure that IS what an epilator does

So that means there's loads of us on the pluck!! 😂vindicated

It sounds like a form of torture to me.

What on earth is wrong with women that they can't accept that having pubic hair is natural and normal?

I will say you are ignorant and rude though. (See we can both throw insults 🙄)
