Shaving leaves bumps and there's long wait times between waxes so what's the downside to just pulling the hair out myself instead of paying someone to do it with wax strip? What am I missing here why doesn't everyone (who wants to remove hair) just pull it out themselves?

Not sure if we're even still removing hair in 2026 but I'm annoyed with it so it's gotta go

An epilator? Are you insane? Good luck with that.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 07/02/2026 07:54

Don’t get too reliant on this method though OP - by the time you’re mid 50s you won’t be able to see properly enough to focus down there and you won’t be able to bend forwards for long enough to rip ‘em out without your back screaming. But on the plus side you won’t care by then so crack on. Don’t ask me how I know 😬

She won’t have to worry about them in her mid 50’s as they would have migrated from the pubic area to her chin!

WiddlinDiddlin · 07/02/2026 15:53

Much depends on your anatomy and mobility!

If everything is pretty minimal, smooth, taut.. then epilator and plucking the odd one it misses would probably be fine - particularly if you're not very... plushy.

If you're quite bendy and dexterous then waxing yourself is possible but its not something everyone can do - i am the opposite of all the above descriptors and absolutely cannot reach all the necessary areas in the right way to tension the skin and apply/remove hot wax (and strip wax is evil, don't do it).

Plucking one by one - only feasible if you're pretty thread bare I'd imagine and theres a good chance you'll catch some skin in the tweezers if you can't see what you're doing. Ouch.

AllTheChaos · 07/02/2026 15:55

OK so the problem with epilating that region is that if you don’t trim the hair short first the epilator sort of tangles up in them, and it’s incredibly painful! Then you have to cut it out and de-tangle it, and trust me, you will not want to try again by the time you’ve done that and got it working again. Even once the bleeding stops. And yes, I know from experience alas! I also tried home waxing, but turned out to be spectacularly bad at it, and whilst I didn’t burn myself I did give myself the most horrific black bruises on the small section I did before giving up, that were really painful and took weeks and weeks to heal. The purple/green/yellow look as they healed was far worse than hair, as was the black bruised look which frankly made me look like I had a gangrenous crotch. These days I am single and don’t even de-hair my legs, and it’s blooming brilliant!

NerdyBird · 07/02/2026 16:06

I used to pluck, but more for tidying than taking a lot off. Trim short first, it’s easier then. But also I did this when I was single and had no kids so I had plenty of time and privacy. No way would I get a chance now!
If you decide to use cream instead, WooWoo (if its still around) is designed for the whole area not just bikini line.

Honestly can't believe I hadn't thought of epilating before this thread and you bunch of wonderwomen who have pointed out it's machine assisted tweezering

I feel this is going to change my life I'm so happy

..I am still going to try a traditional yank/pluck job later for the science and because I've committed to the thread and need to know if it really is as hours long/torturous as PP have declared

Would highly recommend. I’m currently on Medoxil for thinning head hair and can confirm that it works for all areas! I’m a hair removal pro at this point. I’m like Tim Allen in the Santa Clause. I get rid and it’s back by the time I’ve pulled my drawers up

ASometimeThing · 07/02/2026 16:48

I have a Hollywood wax and I do keep it going for weeks by plucking regrowth. But I couldn’t possibly pluck as a starting point. I’d be there for a week.

somanychristmaslights · 07/02/2026 17:36

I use IPL and I pluck any random ones that pop through!

Deneke · 07/02/2026 17:46

I wax my own using Veet wax strips. I'm surprised that only one reply on this thread has said the same so far.
I wouldn't want to go to a stranger to wax it for me, or pay the amount that would cost. I wouldn't fancy shaving, as it grows back prickly.
I do tweezer stray bikini line hairs between waxes, but it would take too long to tweezer the entire area.

MissCooCooMcgoo · 07/02/2026 17:50

Just to add tot his thread for no other reason than to join in the funny stories.

I trim short with clippers rather than shave/wax ect

Went to do it this morning before my shower because it's getting out of hand.

Battery runs out and now I have a half-trimmed public area. A fanny mullet if you will.

It's on charge to finish once the kids are in bed 😂

Let us know the outcome and how far you get before the pain kicks in.
Laser is definitely worth trying.

This post made me laugh until I cried and what a welcome relief from being surrounded daily by thoughts of chemo and cancer and test results and so on. You are a classy bunch of ladies. Thank you from the bottom of my heart 😂♥️.

You might be my soul sister as I am on the same boat!

In the last 10 minutes I have seen this post and laughed out loud at the pink oboe/ beef flute! I think needed this! 🤣🤣

PurpleSky300 · 07/02/2026 19:59

I use the Nair cream to take everything off, every few weeks. Smells a bit grim but very effective.

INSIDE YOUR LABIA????

Sadly true - even the inside of your lips aren’t safe with a Hollywood. If there’s hair in any part of that vicinity, it’s fair game for plucking’!!

I remember my first wax post Covid lockdown. Whilst not a 70s style bush, I did have much more regrowth than usual and that appointment was brutal.

In fact, my genitals were that sore and swollen afterwards, I spent two days walking like John Wayne and with the heat being radiated from my fanny, my DH was seriously contemplating going Bear Grylls and knocking up a fried breakfast…..

Badinfo · 07/02/2026 20:15

I'm a Hollywood girl too, but have epilated my legs and underarms for years, so much so there's hardly anything there now. During lockdown when I couldn't get waxed I resulted to epilating my nether region too, it was an experience, even though I was used to waxing, it's the prolonged torture of it, but with perseverance and a bottle of Baileys I got there!
It did get easier and my wax lady was well impressed when I was allowed back 😂

Edited

The very second I see a grey hair its all coming off.

RazorsAtDawn · 07/02/2026 20:51

Kinda here for the comments 🤣 IPL all the way for me but I'm not sure what I'll do when it goes grey and IPL no longer works (intimate brazillian girl here). But one thing I do know is that the bush will never be back.

BauhausOfEliott · 07/02/2026 21:15

Who the fuck has time to pluck pubic hairs individually?

Just buy some home waxing strips or something.

MissCooCooMcgoo · 07/02/2026 23:26

LADIES the fanny mullet is no more!

ThatsWhatIGoToSchool · 07/02/2026 23:37

MyTwoSense · 07/02/2026 04:25

I use an epilator for all hair removal. Did hurt a lot the first few times but less and less painful until now it barely hurts at all (used on bikini line, as well as underarms, legs and forearms).
Cheaper, less messy, more convenient, faster than booking in waxing apps, and I always had bad reactions to shaving so this is a great solution.

Ditto. My epilator is one of my favourite beauty purchases!!! Can't recommend them enough. I use it for all hair removal too.

Agonising??

I wonder why there is such a huge spectrum in the pain scale with this
