Shaving leaves bumps and there's long wait times between waxes so what's the downside to just pulling the hair out myself instead of paying someone to do it with wax strip? What am I missing here why doesn't everyone (who wants to remove hair) just pull it out themselves?

Not sure if we're even still removing hair in 2026 but I'm annoyed with it so it's gotta go

Sorry, wrong thread.

Gettingbysomehow · 07/02/2026 10:47

Buy a man's beard trimmer. They are designed for this kind of job.

I need to remember to look in the mirror more often. The other day I realised I had a chin hair so long that it walked into the room five minutes before the rest of me Blush

I told my husband off for not letting me know and he claimed not to have noticed but that has to be a lie - it must have been spiking his eye out every time I came near him

🤣🤣🤣🤣

TicklishMintDuck · 07/02/2026 14:22

Urgh the pain! Just use a bikini trimmer like a normal person!

Fodencat · 07/02/2026 14:25

I just trim in the shower with the nail scissors 😬

Newbie8918 · 07/02/2026 14:27

Get yourself an epilator if you’re a ‘from the root’ type of gal. Quicker than tweezers and less painful.

Fodencat · 07/02/2026 14:31

NooNakedJacuzziness · 07/02/2026 07:54

Don’t get too reliant on this method though OP - by the time you’re mid 50s you won’t be able to see properly enough to focus down there and you won’t be able to bend forwards for long enough to rip ‘em out without your back screaming. But on the plus side you won’t care by then so crack on. Don’t ask me how I know 😬

😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣

Loveing · 07/02/2026 14:32

I shave my arm pits only.
I gave up shaving downstairs, I live alone single and nothing is going to change that.
So I thought why am I still grooming.

Lauralou19 · 07/02/2026 14:34

Had laser many years ago - game changer! Did it after kids (as heard it often grows back in pregnancy) and never had an ingrown hair or razor bump since. Only shave the odd hair occasionally and use a home IPL laser for top ups (prob once a month, takes 2 minutes).

Hair removal creams and waxing cost a fortune over the years (plus the time at appointments or the time doing it at home). Nothing beats getting laser done.

Honestly can't believe I hadn't thought of epilating before this thread and you bunch of wonderwomen who have pointed out it's machine assisted tweezering

I feel this is going to change my life I'm so happy

..I am still going to try a traditional yank/pluck job later for the science and because I've committed to the thread and need to know if it really is as hours long/torturous as PP have declared

I have a full leg wax and a 'hollywood' every 4 weeks. The regrowth is minimal as been doing it for years, I also have the kit and am able to do it myself but I am lazy!

I do have an IPL that DH bought me for Christmas a couple of years back while I was heavily pregnant (🙄 so obviously didn't use it at the time)

Its a non brand one from amazon - I've never been sure if it's safe/a good idea as I don't know enough about them to know if it doesn't matter who makes it or not

Ive got a good branded one - but its not as strong as getting it professionally done. I think I had around 12 professional sessions and got the home one just for top ups. It genuinely changed my life as always felt self conscious of razor bumps. The hairs that do grow back (very sparsely) are so much finer too, I can shave them so easily compared to the coarse hair that used to cause bumps.

MildlyAnnoyed · 07/02/2026 14:59

Shave & have laser treatment. It’s not quick but it does lead to a longer term result

7238SM · 07/02/2026 15:02

I've tried lots of things:
Professional waxing, wax strips at home, creams, shaving, epilator (nearly fainted from the pain), IPL, professional laser and yes plucking- but mainly strays.

It depends whether you are trying to remove the lot including bum area, or just the sides? A friend has thick, public hair going down her inner thighs if she doesn't shave- so if were removing that much hair by plucking- it would take days.

I had 1 laser session, just down each side then used a home IPL. I wasn't overly hairy beforehand, but the only hair that regrows now is a little triangle- much lower than the hair originally was. Pluck if you want, but you'll need a mirror and good light. I'd also clip it short beforehand to make it easier. I'd also recommend using post wax wipes, an antiseptic like teatree oil or this stuff nads.com/hair-removal-products/nads-ingrown-hair-treatment-ingrow-solution

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 07/02/2026 15:04

Well if you have masochistic leanings, go for it 😂

Voneska · 07/02/2026 15:08

You could pluck but it woukd GROW BACK time after time time after time after time.....

watermybegonias · 07/02/2026 15:08

I am wincing! Thank goodness I don’t have much body hair. I shave my underarms every June and December, whether they need it or not, and that’s my lot.

Do report back. Through the tears!

Muffsies · 07/02/2026 15:11

I use wax strips to remove hair from the bikni line, and underneath, leaving a teardrop shaped patch at the front. I do a lot of cycling and this makes things more comfortable (no pulled hairs), it also improves sensation during bedroom stuff. Some find do-it-yourself hot wax better for this task, but I'm too lazy for all that.

It takes a bit of practice to use strips, so you should practice on your arms and legs first. You will also need a mirror at crotch height! I can't think that plucking is a practical way of doing it, though i hear some people do this.

Edited to add: soothing antiseptics like tea tree, aloe vera, or witch-hazel are a must post hair removal. Oils like calendula, almond or argan oil are also brilliant post waxing to remove all of the sticky residue and soothe the skin.

OriginalUsername2 · 07/02/2026 15:12

Good lord, no. I’d be there all year. If I don’t want to wet shave it I use men’s clippers and a mirror.

Iusedtosleepbeforehavingkids · 07/02/2026 15:22

I have not read the whole thread, but the first few pages many people seem horrified by this. But I have been plucking my bikini line for about a decade. I could not go to someone for waxing, small kids at the time so limited time, and would find it embarrassing… I know loads of people go but it’s not for me.
i prefer plucking, would never shave, imagine if you cut it., ouch. Plucking was a little uncomfortable at first but you get used to it. Pros are you can pluck whenever you want, just check every few days or once a week and pluck as they come through. Easy to maintain!

rightoguvnor · 07/02/2026 15:33

I think the quality of women’s razors have improved such that bumps and cuts are a distant possibility.
i don’t really get why posters are so anti-shaving these days, whether it’s chin hairs or bikini/majora hair. It’s by far the cheapest, most convenient way to deal with the issues, with no wait time such as with waxing.
For those who might say that once you have done it once you have to keep doing it - well, are you going to wake up in a few years and decide you want a full beard, or to have pubic hair peeping out of your cossie when you’re at your over-60s Aquafit class? think not. You’ll continue to deal with it during showering until you’re so old and decrepit that it no longer matters and you no longer care.

Lemondrizzle4A · 07/02/2026 15:35

Well done PluckedUp for this hilarious thread. It has kept me amused all day. 👏

TwoBagsOfCompost · 07/02/2026 15:41

Pluck 🤣🤣🤣

I've stopped hair removal down there, I'm only doing maintenance. It all gets trimmed and tidied, perhaps a bit more carefully when I'm on a beach holiday?

Mind I'm from south Europe (mysterious) so a brunette and quite hairy.

After years of waxing everything off, now I've decided fuck that. I get a bit self conscious at the beach, as bikinis are tiny and if you don't wax/shave, no amount of careful trimming will result in absolutely nothing being 'visible', but meh can't be arsed anymore really.
