Inspired by a clip I just saw on Instagram.

Deep breath.

Here goes.

Robin Williams wasn’t particularly funny.

ETA “Start” obviously.

We should stop trying to keep very elderly unwell people alive and let them go with some dignity.

From all I've ever read or heard, it’s often the relatives - rather than the medics - who ‘can’t bear to let Mum go!’ - and become furiously indignant if anyone suggests that it might be kinder to let Nature take its course, with palliative care.

I sincerely hope that some day, you experience life as one of the most vulnerable so that you know what it's like to live in the real world.

What a horrible thing is to say to someone!

We always had tuna and salad cream! No I make tuna with mayo and salad cream! It gives it a bit of tang 😋

My 10 year daughter has also asked for glasses, so can confirm there's some kind of coolness attached. I don't see the problem.

MayaPinion · 07/02/2026 11:49

The NHS should only cover life threatening conditions, conditions that prevent people from working or enabling them to fulfil parenting/caring responsibilities, living independently, and conditions that cause significant pain or treatment to prevent significant pain. I think things like IVF, gender affirming surgery, and most (not all) cosmetic surgeries are non-essential and should be paid for privately.

I think everyone has some traits that could be associated with ADHD and/or autism but it doesn’t mean they have ADHD and/or autism. I think self diagnosis and saying things like, ‘Haha, oops, I’m a bit autistic’ or ‘Silly me, There’s my ADHD kicking in again’, is tone deaf and does a terrible disservice to the sometimes awful impact these conditions can have on a person and their families’ lives.

I hate sourdough. And The Traitors.

Perzival · 07/02/2026 11:50

Profound autism exists and should (hopefully will be) a stamd alone diagnosis away from the rest of the autism dx.

Some patents are just rubbish and do label their child as an excuse.

Bikes and their rides should be registered and held to account if they cause an accident or damage.

If you drive a big car you should have to have an extra test to make sure you can park it.

There are only two sexes.

Saying that the most vulnerable should come last is pretty horrible.

I think saying that vulnerable people should come last is a horrible thing to say.

If someone experiences it first hand, then it generally brings them back to earth and allows them to learn strength and compassion. A lack of compassion is generally the result of weakness, a lack of maturity, and not having enough real world experience.

Doesn't stop people thinking it.

Me. It's much less claggy than tuna with mayonnaise.

The NHS is not the great UK institution we should all be proud of and if like me you are currently sitting on an elderly ward trying to get fluids and food into your elderly dementia and cancer suffering parent because the nurses are either too busy or too compassion fatigued to feed them then you will agree.

Grammarnut · 06/02/2026 23:09

No! They are to let people show off in safety their non-PC opinions. Here's mine. Transwomen are men and they can get stuffed. Here's another, Israel did not commit genocide in Gaza, but Hamas and Gazans committed genocide in Israel on 7th Oct - and the fact that this is the anniversary of the battle of Lepanto in 1571, when Christian Europe defeated Islamic Turkey, is no coincidence.
I have others.
Mind you, I am in favour of legal immigration.

A million percent!

That's an issue with resources and not the establishment and ethos of the NHS, which absolutely is something we should be proud of. I completely get your frustration as my mum is also facing significant barriers to treatment and honestly it feels a bit like the 'death panels' Sarah Palin was mocked for talking about - but the NHS itself is invaluable

LeonMccogh · 07/02/2026 11:59

There’d be far less autistic children if it was detectable in the womb.

shouldicontactthisperson · 07/02/2026 01:10

That’s good it suits you. For me though it means I can’t afford a divorce 😭

OH and I would have married and divorced a few times in our lives together.

usedtobeaylis · 07/02/2026 12:00

'Israel didn't commit genocide' doesn't credibly come under the banner of 'opinion'.

ScreamingBeans · 07/02/2026 12:01

There's no such thing as a perfect society. Any attempt to create one is doomed to failure and invariably results in huge persecution and mass murder.

The natural default position of most people and most societies is poverty and while it has many, many faults, capitalism has been the most successful economic model to raise people out of poverty. It needs very strict regulation to ensure it does not perpetuate structural injustices, but as an economic model, it has resulted in raising the living standards and promoting freedom of individuals better and longer than any other system humans have yet come up with.

Pretending it's all shit and should be overthrown by utopian models which have failed everywhere they have been tried and worse than that, resulted in some of the worst human rights abuses the world has ever seen and the deaths of millions of people, is moronic. We are imperfect beings. Every society we ever create will be imperfect. But we can mitigate and we can recognise that nothing will ever be perfect so we must address as many imperfections as we can, knowing that all our efforts will lead to different imperfections which in their turn will need to be addressed.

SerendipityJane · 07/02/2026 12:02

It just seems a bit unnecessary imho. I didnt need glasses at school but I remember kids wearing those old fashioned National health glasses get teased and called specky 4 eyes etc. More so if they had a lazy eye and had one lens covered over with a plaster

Yeh that’s it. So few kids did. Now they all do. Weird

Orphlids · 07/02/2026 12:03

If autism were detectable on a scan during pregnancy in the same way many other conditions are, many women would opt to abort.

I would not blame a straight man for finding Paris Lees attractive. He/she/they whatever are stunning.

I saw Paris Lees at a tube station in London not that long ago. Unmistakably male IRL, and he's a big bloke - pushing 6 foot and broad shouldered. There may well be men who find that attractive, but they're not straight. There are some men who have a specific sexual interest in men who are pretending to be women, it's a thing.

It’s my unpopular opinion that the glasses are making the kids look weird.
