Inspired by a clip I just saw on Instagram.

Deep breath.

Here goes.

Robin Williams wasn’t particularly funny.

ETA “Start” obviously.

Wow, this thread again! It usually gets full in no time. 😀
Here I go: Children take everything and give nothing. They literally destroy people's lives.
That's why I never had any and until today regard it as the best decision of my life.

Then they become amazing adults if you’ve treated them correctly and guided them well.

Why have so many kids these days got glasses? Is it a trend? No kids had glasses when I was a kid.

When were you a kid? I had glasses as a kid, grew up on the 60s/70s.

Nonsense. Unless you grew up in the 1800s.

We had kids with glasses in the 80s.

Maybe it's that more people take their kids for check ups and screening is better than before...

I've never met anyone who doesn't think that!

Really? Everyone I know loves them!

ApplebyArrows · 07/02/2026 11:30

Counterpoint to previous posts: Queen are underrated, their big hits are not typical of their music as a whole, which is brilliant but largely unacknowledged.

People are living too long.

Or rather, modern medicine is keeping people alive too long.

I don't think this would be an unpopular view with anyone living with an Alzheimer's sufferer. Medics are keeping many of them physically alive when they have damn all quality of life and their carers are being mentally and physically ground down.

frecklejuice · 07/02/2026 11:29

Haha. I guess some people must as they're still on telly. But I'd genuinely have to ask the question 'why?' I literally cannot see what there is to like about them!
Not trying to belittle those who do, I am interested to know what people see in them?

My 10 year old granddaughter informed me that its now cool to wear glasses. So, instead of telling kids to be grateful they have good eyesight, the gullible parents are buying their little darlings glasses with just plain glass. I'm not sure whether my DGD was having me on but since nowadays many little darlings have to have absolutely EVERYTHING they desire, without question, it could possibly be true 🤣

Weed absolutely honks, it has a terrible effect on people and it isn't progressive to promote its use

Totally agree! The smell makes me sick. Plus, I know quite a lot of folks who smoked loads in the 90s have serious mental health issues now.

I can't get worked up about that tbh.

So what if they want to wear them as fashion accessory? No difference to wanting a particular bag, or Smiggle stationery or whatever 🤷‍♀️

No way!! I live in a small Close and three of the primary aged kids have big bins (glasses). It makes them look fucking weird

Gosh. I’ve needed glasses all my life and they were definitely not cool when I was a kid. Speccy four eyes I was called. Until recently, when I had cataract surgery and now only need reading glasses. So liberating. No more steaming up when walking from a cold environment to a warm one. Or when I open the oven door.

We as a society should stop pretending that retail is going to recover to the level it was at 20 or even 15 years ago. It isn’t. Getting nostalgic over Woolies and “lovely department stores” isn’t going to change that. We need to make it much, much easier for town planners to designate former retail sites as purely residential, without the need for ground floor commercial units. They always end up empty for ages and make the apartments above less attractive into the bargain.

All these people on local Facebook groups whining “ANOTHER chicken shop/barbers/vape shop?! Whyyyy?! Why can’t we have something different?” are the exact same people who never go in the independent shops they later cry about losing (or at least post a crying face emoji about losing).

Donald Trump is the second coming of our saviour. He actually secretly turned down the Nobel Peace Prize because he is so humble. His orange glow is from the warmth of his humanity. He only appears in the Epstein files as a heavenly apparition.

🤣🤣🤣

It just seems a bit unnecessary imho. I didnt need glasses at school but I remember kids wearing those old fashioned National health glasses get teased and called specky 4 eyes etc. More so if they had a lazy eye and had one lens covered over with a plaster

Branston beans are better than Heinz

Isn't this is a known fact, not an unpopular opinion?

Grey hair makes you look older
Botox is great
Lucy Letby is guilty
Keir Starmer is not to blame for every misfortune that befalls any person in Britain
Migrants should be housed and fed while their claims are processed
Brooklyn Beckham is right about his parents
Prince Harry is telling the truth about other royals briefing against him
Meghan Markle is a bit syrupy and cringey but she's not a bad person and has been treated unfairly
Boys shouldn't have long hair

Grey hair usually comes with getting older, although some people go grey at a younger age. This is not a news flash.

My unpopular but surely true thought.
Older people with dyed hair, just look like . . . Older people with dyed hair! It does not make them look younger. Unless their advancing years is impacting their eyesight . . .

Nothing wrong with getting older, happens to everyone.

People couldn’t pay me to care about whether someone is in the country illegally or not. There, I said it.

Completely agree, immigration status means nothing to me.

Similarly I am pro immigration, my unpopular opinion is that diversity is one of the best things about the uk.

Frazzledfraggle07 · 07/02/2026 11:44

I don't like dogs and I don't like how more and more places are dog friendly. I don't want to have a coffee with a side of smelly wet dog. Your dog may well be a big softie towards you but it's still an animal capable of attacking me, leads should be mandatory apart from in specific dog friendly areas. They are not fur babies.

I've been wearing them for 56 years. My nanna was 75 when she died in 1973 and we have photos of her wearing glasses when she was in primary school. So unless you're at least 130 years old then kids were wearing glasses when you were a child....you just didn't know any of them.

Absolutely!
