Inspired by a clip I just saw on Instagram.

Deep breath.

Here goes.

Robin Williams wasn’t particularly funny.

ETA “Start” obviously.

Oh no, the woman in my work that I've had a ridiculous crush on for years is about 5' 4" and has wider hips and she really suits bootcut jeans. Or do you mean more flare types?

Maybe flares? Not sure....the trousers which sort of come straight down from your thighs. I loved them for years!!

Far too many people on TV are of average talent. They simply cling on when they have got their foot in the door and appear in one thing after another even though the viewer is bored shitless by them.
Also, too many programmes keep comjng back long after their sell- by date.

If he were the village postman, he wouldn't get a second look! The eyes too close together is an unfortunate feature most of the RF suffer from.

My unpopular opinion is that young Prince Charles was attractive, in old-fashioned gent way 🙊🤫

And he seemed quite sweet in an interview when he was around 18.

Harry isn’t bad looking, I fancied him when I was 11, but his manbaby victim persona is seriously off putting. Looks wise, Meghan could have done better.

He’s also dim and very childlike when compared to his brother.

Rosie Jones is as funny as explosive diarrhoea.
In your pants
On a packed train

Ditto Michael Macintyre. Not remotely amusing

Listen i agree, I only signed up for this thread as mumsnet has a rep for its views on transpeople (predominantly transwomen), and I knew it would be unpopular.

In the real world though, transwomen (passable) are as attractive to straight men as natural women. The numbers dont lie. And another thing, actual gay men are overwhelmingly not attracted to transwomen. They fancy men.

WTF…straight men don’t fancy women with cocks. Everyone know this. If there’s one thing straight men are not keen on it’s cock.
ETA apart from their own which they love of course.

Jamelia all those years ago, was completely justified in her opinion that plus-size clothing should cost more. If you were having it tailor-made or buying the fabric per yard yourself it would. 🤷🏼‍♀️ It makes perfect sense but she was absolutely vilified for saying so and accused of fat shaming.

Turkey bacon is a thing isn’t it.

It’s a thing but it’s not bacon

mellicauli · 07/02/2026 14:16

Other than sitting in your own garden, there are very few activities that are enjoyable on a sunny bank holiday. Every pub, park, attraction, supermarket, restaurant is 50% more crowded and 100% less enjoyable than any other day of the year.

I also think The Chelsea Flower Show is overrated. And the Ideal Home Exhibition unfathomable.

Fodencat · 07/02/2026 14:16

Princess Diana was a plain woman who photographed well

Oh it does.

Happy to eat all the bacon, to save you from it, @Dontcallmescarface. One of the many services I offer at no extra cost!

And yet, almost every single instance of harassment I've experienced in public has been from a man, whether it verbal humiliation, physical intimidation, or active groping, and I'm nowhere near being alone in that. 'I cheerfully wave sensible safety measures away because I think I'm above all that' is just the same minimisation we dealt with when couldn't even mention the incessant verbals and groping and intimidation because it was just a laugh.

We're speaking of two different issues and I think you misunderstand the point I'm getting at.

My point is that men don't get continuously warned patronisingly about going out on their own at night, when statistically they are more in danger. I'm not saying women aren't at risk, or that we're not harrassed - I'm saying this discord is incorrect and designed as a way to control and also blame women for when it does happen (think how we're told not to wear short skirts). Families tend to warn their daughters and not their sons to be careful at night and be wary of strangers, when statistically it's your son and not your daughter who is more likely to be attacked, unprovoked by someone they don't know. It's a societal means of asking women to be less confident and less visible in public. When women do get murdered by strangers, people still make comments about what they were doing out on their own at night. Nobody asks that when a man or young boy gets attacked and murdered by a stranger.

This narrative shifts the blame onto us!

One perception is correct though - it's always a man.

Plus-size clothing generally does cost more, most plus size people buy from retailers that specifically cater to them.

Of course anything that deviates from the perfect standard should cost more. Totally spot on that people with disabilities should pay through the nose for adaptive clothing as well. We should definitely price people out of normal life.

You can’t possibly put Michael McIntyre in the same bracket though surely?
I find Mrs Brown’s Boys about as funny as dysentery but even that isn’t remotely comparable to Rosie bloody Jones!!!

MindYourUsage
I'm actually allergic to chilli. I've been caught out a few times when ingredients just say 'spices' or don't mention it at all.
And it seems to be very prevalent in vegetarian dishes. I've been out for meals when the only veggie option was chilli or curry.

Only if a size 12 costs more than a size 6 too.

Otherwise it's really a moral judgment against women over a certain size rather than the rational, economic argument you are pretending it is.

THANK YOU! That's exactly what I think.

@Rasperry there were photos years ago of Prince Charles in his 20s, in swimming shorts, on a beach surrounded by several attractive bikini clad young women. He had a very lean and muscular physique and the ladies were most impressed 👏 😉

Nothing to do with ‘the perfect standard’ 🙄 and I’m talking high street pricing where identical dresses cost exactly the same. Long gone are the days where anything above a 12 was ‘specialist’, and who on earth mentioned ‘adaptive clothing’. Get a grip!

moto748e · 07/02/2026 14:26

I don't like the trend towards replacing "vegetarian" options on menus with only "vegan" options.

Amen to that!

One perception is correct though - it's always a man.

The vast majority of murder victims are men. Men kill other men far more often than they kill women.

But murderers are overwhelmingly men, a fact that is treated as so obvious that there's no need to make anything of it. Interestingly, however, although police forces collect enormous amounts of data about victims, barely anything is known about perpetrators. This is particularly evident for rapists. We know far more about women who have been raped than we do about men who rape, where there's some data on age but not a lot else. The fact that it's almost always men seems to be treated as a bit irrelevant. Take the labour party's current 'war' on vawg. It shouldn't really be about women at all. It should be about men and their behaviour. I want to see them say that they are going to cut male violence across the board rather than giving women rape alarms and calling that a solution.

85K ish men in prison in the UK. Less than 5k women.

Not that old chestnut again!

Portakalkedi · 07/02/2026 14:29

Having dogs as pets is completely unnecessary and pointless. What a massive waste of resources that would be better redirected to humans (food, healthcare, daycare etc etc. I would make an exception for working dogs such as guide dogs/police dogs, but none in private hands otherwise.

‘Moral judgement’? Christ on a bike! It absolutely is an economic argument. I can think of lots of comparable analogies (including children’s clothing) but really can’t be bothered arguing.
