Inspired by a clip I just saw on Instagram.

Deep breath.

Here goes.

Robin Williams wasn’t particularly funny.

ETA “Start” obviously.

Not every food (or dessert, or bakery item) is improved by the addition of chocolate.

Agree, or that salted caramel stuff. What an awful trend that is.

NorthXNorthWest · 07/02/2026 09:42

It's reasonable as a woman to be wary of men from countries where women are considered as second class citizens. I much rather would have women and children immigrating from those countries.

Of yiu want to give her a false srnse of security.

Are we including the UK, Europe and USA?

Hall, Allen, Brand, Saville, Epstein, Weinstein, Cosby, Edwards, the Catholic Church, Church of England, Scientology, sports, historical youth instutions...

They all have something in common and it isn't skin colour.

It's not all men, but its always men.

People who hate trans people and wrap it up as safety with no nuanced understanding come across as unhinged, obsessed with a bogeyman or other people’s genitals.

ditto those who say that drag performers or homosexuality is a risk to children.

localnotail · 07/02/2026 09:43

Another unpopular opinion - made up "unique" children's names (including obscure foreign ones, shortened versions of classic names, misspelled names) are sure sign the parents are as dull as dishwater and probably not very intelligent. These feature prominently on here - top one for me was people saying "Linda" or "Joanne" is awful but something like "Amelisia" or "Esmelauretta"* or some other made crap was lovely and yes, got for it.

*I made these ones up but they are not far off some fucked up names people are suggesting to use on a real child...

Does anyone really hate transpeople? It thought it was an issue about women's spaces.

And yeah, drag performers, leave them alone. Been around for years, looking glam and entertaining.

Grey hair makes you look older
Botox is great
Lucy Letby is guilty
Keir Starmer is not to blame for every misfortune that befalls any person in Britain
Migrants should be housed and fed while their claims are processed
Brooklyn Beckham is right about his parents
Prince Harry is telling the truth about other royals briefing against him
Meghan Markle is a bit syrupy and cringey but she's not a bad person and has been treated unfairly
Boys shouldn't have long hair

"the most vulnerable" should come last in public policy not first

Pardon?

If you're in the 15% of women who genuinely don't want to breastfeed then crack on, the risks to your baby's health are yours to take (and must be weighed, as with everything, against other risks to the woman's mental or physical health, ability to fulfil other roles, etc). My hope would be that the number of women who don't want to breastfeed would drop after a couple of generations of the above public health policy, but I accept that some women just don't want to.

I specifically didn't say "make formula prescription only". In fact, make it cheaper, make it morally ambiguous to try and make money out of it, make it so no woman ever has to give their baby expired or overly diluted or scheduled, limited amounts of formula for financial reasons. It would be expensive but in my unpopular opinion, worth it.

And to the poster who couldn't produce enough milk, yeah, 2.5% of women physiologically don't produce enough milk. There's nothing to feel guilty about (although guilt is a complex emotion, isn't it?) I hope you were given the UNICEF information about responsive bottle feeding, and supported practically and emotional support to continue giving some breast milk, if that's what you wanted to do.

Anyway, I've rambled enough! Should've just said my other unpopular opinion - "Marmite is actually pretty meh" 🤣

It's funny because my unpopular opinion is that breast feeding is boring and painful and prevents men from being equal partners (and I think many of the 85% are lying while a leche league researcher fixes them with a glassy stare).

We should stop trying to keep very elderly unwell people alive and let them go with some dignity.

MonsteraDeliciosa · 07/02/2026 09:35

A lot of not very unpopular opinions here; who TF doesn’t think Ant and Dec are a tedious, overexposed tossers?

Mine is I have no problem with dog breeders (not puppy farmers) as I want a beautiful golden retriever puppy of known parentage. I don’t want a previously abused or neglected mongrel, probably of dubious background, that I have to “rescue”.

Only had 'mongrels', been the healthiest, happiest dogs ever.
The problem with breeders is they are also often dodgy and the dogs have health problems. It's just money making, they will not tell you the truth.

I quite like Keir Starmer as PM and think that the haters have very short memories about how utterly shite Rishi, Boris and Liz actually were.

Yet We All Have Them

It's an interesting space. Scope for a lot of discourse, nuance and exploration of what it means to be human.

However this is a thread on Mumsnet, so you have to read the room.

I am mildly interested by those people who hold "unpopular" opinions. And they know they are unpopular opinions. Not only that, they know why they are unpopular too. And - even worse - they agree that they should be unpopular.

And then they continue to espouse them without a shred of self awareness.

There is also the painfully obvious (you'd think) corollary that popular opinions are somehow more worthy than unpopular ones. Again plenty of scope for nuance and engagement and understanding there. Maybe it will happen one day.

However until then an unpopular opinion isn't necessarily bad, and a popular opinion most certainly is not automatically good. Something to bear in mind as you sail down lifes river to the sea of enlightenment.

A couple of my friends have rescue dogs - both are twitchy, nervous and bitey - clearly traumatised, and not suitable to be around kids or other dogs without leash and, sometimes, a muzzle.

Speaking of nuance-drag is a very long standing part of pantomime culture. On stage. There is no way on earth I'd let a child of mine anywhere near drag queen story time or similar. Why? I cannot think of a single good reason why they need/want to be there.
Genitals define our sex. Couldn't care less what genitals other people have but your chromosomes tell exactly who you are.

Costell9 · 07/02/2026 09:48

YouAreEntitledToMyOpinion · 07/02/2026 09:20

My nan used to say spare the rod and spoil the child. Ok no need to hit your child, but discipline is still required. You can spot weak parenting a mile off - kids need boundaries.

Out of interest, what signs do you personally look for, for you to conclude from a mile off that someone has weak parenting?

CopeNorth · 07/02/2026 09:49

Describing anything or anyone you don’t like as a leftie, snowflake, liberal etc doesn’t mean you’re right. More likely that you’re weirdly full of secondhand hate.

Describing anything or anyone you don’t like as a right wing transphobic racist fascist is just the same though .

A significant minority of cases of ADHD are actually FASD. It slips under the radar,
particularly in middle class families as a FASD diagnosis relies on the mother’s honest disclosure.

Personally, I think some cases of ADHD are ASPD or that there's a significant overlap in behaviours. The drunk driving and impulsiveness for example. "Oh poor me I can't help drinking and driving and potentially killing someone because I have ADHD".

Designless · 07/02/2026 09:51

Sharptonguedwoman · 07/02/2026 09:44

Pardon?

Sorry if this is confusing to you.

I mean school budgets should be for kids who will grow up to support society, not six figure support packages for kids who never will. That's simply a society screwing itself.

GP appointments should be prioritised for working people.

Social work reports shouldn't reduce sentencing for violent offenders.

UnhappyHobbit · 07/02/2026 09:51

I’m a huge animal lover. But… Cat lovers need to wake up to the fact that the cats are seriously manipulating you.

They’ve cheated on you numerous times and they have at least 3 other families on the side.

They hunt birds and mice, drop the dead corpses at your feet, and somehow you’ve all agreed this is a sweet gesture rather than a tiny crime scene.

Meanwhile, your neighbors are plotting their revenge on you because your cat treats their garden like a public toilet

Yes, cats are adorable. But let’s not pretend they’re morally upright citizens. Cute? Absolutely. Innocent? Not even close.
