Inspired by a clip I just saw on Instagram.

Deep breath.

Here goes.

Robin Williams wasn’t particularly funny.

ETA “Start” obviously.

A couple of my friends have rescue dogs - both are twitchy, nervous and bitey - clearly traumatised, and not suitable to be around kids or other dogs without leash and, sometimes, a muzzle.

That's a real shame.
I did read that some of the ones coming over from other countries are not in a good way. Sophie from Romania made it famous. I also read that people are ordering these dogs from overseas via places like gumtree/facebook and the first time they meet the dog is the day it gets dropped off. This is insane because rescues should be assessed before rehoming and at the very least, met by the new owners!

But honestly, grew up with a dog mad mum, we've always had rescues and they've all been lovely, soppy, kind and well behaved dogs. The German Shep cross was a little nervous, but mum knew enough about dogs to overcome that within a month or two. Even the one mum had when we lived in Singapore, which turned out to have rabies - eeek!

Cake is not a breakfast item

Tattoos look ridiculous on everyone except sailors

Shops/cafes/restaurants should stop trying to reinvent perfectly nice simple dishes with a metric fuckton of random unnecessary extra ingredients.

localnotail · 07/02/2026 09:52

Oh yes, and while I'm at it - allowing your kids to be out all hours of the day in the streets is not healthy/ good thing. Kids should go outside and play, but not live on the street.

Rather that than being on xbox!

GP appointments should be prioritised for working people.

Now my unpopular retort is maybe they should be reserved for ill people first ?

Friendlygingercat · 07/02/2026 09:53

Some kids just need a good sharp slap across the legs.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 07/02/2026 09:53

‘Hygge’ was just a very clever marketing ploy, to induce easily-influenced people to buy a lot of throws and candles etc.

Unpopular opinion : Men that claim they are straight are often lantent homosexuals. 👍

Sorry if this is confusing to you.

I mean school budgets should be for kids who will grow up to support society, not six figure support packages for kids who never will. That's simply a society screwing itself.

GP appointments should be prioritised for working people.

Social work reports shouldn't reduce sentencing for violent offenders.

1, in a civilised society, the two should not be mutually exclusive.

2 Perhaps between 8 and 10 in the morning? Or similar
3 Possibly. But we seem to live in an age where much crime goes unpunished.

It's an interesting space. Scope for a lot of discourse, nuance and exploration of what it means to be human.

However this is a thread on Mumsnet, so you have to read the room.

I am mildly interested by those people who hold "unpopular" opinions. And they know they are unpopular opinions. Not only that, they know why they are unpopular too. And - even worse - they agree that they should be unpopular.

And then they continue to espouse them without a shred of self awareness.

There is also the painfully obvious (you'd think) corollary that popular opinions are somehow more worthy than unpopular ones. Again plenty of scope for nuance and engagement and understanding there. Maybe it will happen one day.

However until then an unpopular opinion isn't necessarily bad, and a popular opinion most certainly is not automatically good. Something to bear in mind as you sail down lifes river to the sea of enlightenment.

I love this!

Edited

Just to clarify - I like all kinds of dogs, but I had encountered lovely and sweet pedigree dogs, as well as mongrel ones. I had a rescue dog, who was a bulldog mix, but she was a nightmare and had a lot of health issues. I loved her anyway but sometimes wanted a "normal" dog that does not try to bite children and wee herself in her sleep ((

CopeNorth · 07/02/2026 09:55

We should do away with party politics. All those squabbling MPs should be elected and just have to crack on and work together like any other workplace. Too much time is wasted on arguing between parties or even worse within parties, and means we do not implement long term policies focusing instead on short terms things that make them or their party electable.

Yeah, you're not 'straight' mate.
Now you've got that off your chest, feel free to deregister and pop off back to your cave. Hmm

Yeah the pornified trans women are doing it for fetish and if you (not you but him above) as a man enjoy watching cock in a frock you are about as straight as a round about lol

Real Trans women just want to live their simple lives like most normal women not some over objectified Barbie style stereotype.

Just like most trans men most wouldn’t notice one because they don’t run around trying to be the most manly man they possibly can be trying to prove they are better than real men or flashing their vaginas on pornhub. 🥱

They are mutually exclusive because money is finite. Of course we would have more to go around if producers weren't put last. There is no logical or even particularly compassionate argument in favour of the current balance.

Criminals are among the most vulnerable I can't believe you want them to be punished how uncivilised of you.

We should stop trying to keep very elderly unwell people alive and let them go with some dignity.

Not just the elderly though, any adult with capacity should be able to decide when enough is enough

Yeah I'm not sure non-working, iller people turning up at A and E for help with things a GP could've managed is going to be of general societal benefit tbh.

Wow. That's a lot of words to say 'I like men but prefer the ones who try to look like a woman'. The exaggerated mannerisms and look of the glamorous-type of supposedly 'passing' transwoman is not real femininity. It's camp and slightly creepy pantomime.

If you’re going to wear a beanie, actually put it on your head, don’t just place it on the top of it.

It starts off on my head but always ends up on top. Don’t wear them anymore.

Unpopular opinion : Men that claim they are straight are often lantent homosexuals. 👍

You are basically saying a huge percentage of men are gay (given trans is the second most viewed category), we are talking 30% plus here. That simply doesn't compute.

I have no hang ups about labels at all so say what you like. I know I'm straight and only mention it for the purpose of recognising that transwomen (again, passable transwomen) are appealing to straight males. It's delusional to think they are not passable or attractive to straight men. The fact is many transwomen are told to be honest about their status before they become intimate with men; if they were not passable or able to attract straight men then having to be honest (or come clean) wouldn't be a thing, their status would be known, but obviously that is not the case.
