Inspired by a clip I just saw on Instagram.

Deep breath.

Here goes.

Robin Williams wasn’t particularly funny.

ETA “Start” obviously.

David Attenborough is a hypocritical old bore.

Yesss! I’m so glad someone else thinks this. Cant bear him.

Soashamed60 · 07/02/2026 07:06

I loved being a housewife & having that time with my dc while they were little. I would have hated to drag them out to childcare at a crazy early time so I could get to work!
I wasn't ashamed of not working and being financially reliant on dh for a few years. I still believe in a parent being at home for the dc, at least part time anyway.

Pandora bracelets are awful

Sweet chilli flavoured anything is vile (see also salted caramel)

The 40% tax band should kick in much higher than it does

Agree about the Beatles and Queen, never really understood the hype about either.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 07/02/2026 07:10

Beef dripping on hot white toast is the food of the Gods.

It's certainly an unpopular view in my family 🤣.

Wearescrewed · 07/02/2026 07:11

This is only unpopular on MN.
In the outside world it’s pretty standard.
People can feel like they’ve been born in the wrong body without it being sinister.
The two examples I know are girls who believe they should have been born a boy.
For one it was immediate and obvious before he could talk.
For the other it was clear his mental health and wellbeing was severely impacted, ie if he’d not had a supportive family he might not be here.
I want to ask if the majority of you believe this situation is not something you believe is possible, what would you do if it was your child?
why has this always existed?
FYI I did have more ‘TERF’ beliefs before I saw evidence with my own eyes. Or got to know trans women and men.

My worry about the whole anti trans vibe on here is that most of you don’t have any direct experience so it’s a bit like those boomer men who live in all white villages and think anyone from a non white background is dodgy, ie Reform voters.
I am not trying to fuel something here but I just don’t get it and wonder how some of you would react if your child declared they were transgender and were genuinely distressed.

Pineapple absolutely does belong on pizza (ducks for cover)

I totally agree with you. Also, sliced gherkin belongs on pizza too!

I’d take them to a psychiatrist, not a surgeon.

The same way that if my child had anorexia, I’d take them to a psychiatrist rather than Weight Watchers.

All of human evolution is the brain taking different pathways, otherwise we would all be AI slop.
Every person on the planet is neuro-divergent, I just think that the push for ADHD in children is driven by a refusal by a lot of parents to accept that their child isn't the next Stephen Hawking, more Justin Hawkins.

And in adults it's just laziness. But they don't want to be called lazy. They want an excuse for it

Strawberrryfields · 07/02/2026 06:21

Ooh why? Can’t remember hearing anything negative about him before.

Well, for a start he’s taken it upon himself to start lecturing us about climate change, and is wheeled out as some kind of expert.

I’d like to see the size of his carbon footprint. I doubt he found those gorillas in his back garden, and it’s hard to get to Rwanda on a pushbike…

localnotail · 07/02/2026 07:37

Most of the TV shows are overrated and incredibly boring (all the dancing ones, singing ones, cooking ones etc). American shows like Sex in the City, Friends, Frasier to name a few - fake bullshit with forced laugh. The overly suntanned woman with the massive black fringe (Claudia) is fucking weird looking - she looks unhinged and almost mental, how no one can see that?

In addition to this - there is literally no need to be friends with, or even talk to, parents of your kid's schoolmates if you dont want to.

localnotail · 07/02/2026 07:41

Taylor Swift is bland and her music/ voice is undistinguishable from other more or less popular female singers of the same age.

The only interview I've ever seen of Epstein he was being harangued and interrupted by the interviewer so he hardly got a sentence out. When he did, he was very intelligent and a lot more courteous than the interviewer who was an utter arsehole.

Jesus Christ. They’re really among us all.

localnotail · 07/02/2026 07:42

I like Woody Allen films and I dont really care he married his stepdaughter.

MummyJ36 · 07/02/2026 07:44

Drunk Elephant and all those other risible beauty brands should be banned from marketing and selling to tweens. No primary age child should be using moisturiser with hydrochloric acid in it and no primary age child should be worrying about wrinkles! Any parent who buys that shit for their primary age child should be ashamed.

I would say the same goes for shoes with heels for anyone under the age of 16

I wish there was the laugh emoticon for this, ah here it is 😂😅

it's a bit like the Monty Python "What have the Romans ever done for us" gag.

presumably you do know the difference between taking numerous leisure breaks a year using commercial flights on a whim "because you can" and what Sir David has been doing for decades which is contributing to the global body of knowledge on ecological risks, climate change and awareness that is shaping government policy. Had he done everything from the comfort of his armchair I'm sure he would attract far more harsh critique.

here's a summary in case you don't believe me:

Sir David Attenborough is a renowned natural historian, broadcaster, and author, holding specific academic, professional, and honorary qualifications related to the natural sciences and, more recently, climate change.

Academic Credentials and Background

  • Bachelor of Arts in Natural Sciences: Attenborough earned a degree in natural sciences from Clare College, Cambridge University, in 1945–1947, focusing on geology and zoology.
  • Postgraduate Studies: He began a postgraduate degree in social anthropology at the London School of Economics in the early 1960s, but returned to the BBC before completing it.

Professional Qualifications and Experience

  • Decades of Observation: With over 70 years as a natural historian and documentary filmmaker, he has documented global flora and fauna, often pioneering new filming techniques.
  • Numerous Honors: He holds 32 honorary degrees from British universities, including Cambridge and Oxford, and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS) in 1983.
  • Environmental Leadership: He has held leadership roles, including serving as President of the Royal Society for Nature Conservation.

Climate Change and Environmental Expertise

  • UN Recognition: In 2022, the United Nations Environment Programme awarded him the Champion of the Earth Lifetime Achievement Award for his dedication to protecting nature.
  • Advocacy Role: He served as the "People's Advocate" for the UN Climate Change Conference in 2021, urging leaders to act on emissions.
  • Scientific Collaboration: His documentaries, such as A Life on Our Planet and Climate Change – The Facts, involved close collaboration with scientists.
  • Advisory Positions: He is a member of the Earthshot Prize Council.

His qualifications in natural history, biology, and geology, combined with extensive observation and collaboration with other experts, provide a strong foundation for his environmental advocacy.

You might want to do a bit of reading on the Epstein files….. (edit: this was meant for the original
poster not the poster who replied!)

Most people are ignorant of the dangers of drinking alcohol, even in small quantities. If they were, a lot fewer people would drink, and people wouldn’t question why others abstain.
Make sure you know about the condition cirrhosis of the liver, if you don’t already.

All of those credentials you’ve listed under Climate Change Expertise were bestowed upon him when he was in his 90s.

He got his degree in the 1940s. Climate change wasn’t on the radar then. He couldn’t be arsed to finish his Masters.

He serves as a figurehead because people know him off the telly. And they know him off the telly because he spent about half a century whizzing around the planet on aeroplanes.

And his programmes are dull.

It’s a disaster for young workers starting out on their careers. No mentors they can pop in to see, no competent secretaries who can stand beside their desks and show them how to use the systems, no esprit de corp with their fellow trainees, no working through issues over a sandwich in the staff room.

People who think this don't give a shit about all the young workers who remote working benefits. They only care about the ones who are like they were when they were that age, and don't notice that there were always people who were excluded from many jobs because of the requirement to work in person.

Basically, it's young workers but only the ones they've noticed and care about.

Baby formula should be marketer and used as a life-saving, ultra-processed medicine rather than an inconsequential choice (there would obviously need to be a societal move to holistically support breastfeeding)

"Extreme day trips" are a disgusting sign of how selfish (and thick) our society is
