Inspired by a clip I just saw on Instagram.

Deep breath.

Here goes.

Robin Williams wasn’t particularly funny.

ETA “Start” obviously.

You can't be a feminist and choose to be a permanent SAHM at the same time. My opinion and the lady is not for turning.

(whispers) I don't like Claudia Winkleman's dress sense on Traitors.......or her fringe......

Claudia Winkleman’s fringe should be Grade listed at this point.

Universal Basic Income would not only lift people out of poverty, but it would boost the economy tenfold.

All beer tastes the same

No it doesn't.

Only Fools and Horses isn’t funny, neither is Dads Army.

Bloozie · 07/02/2026 00:50

Private fireworks displays should be banned.

"the most vulnerable" should come last in public policy not first

My DGD has CF, ( not a cheeky fucker ,Cystic Fibrosis) and been hospitalised several times with a simple cough cold or resulting chest infection and been seriously ill/in danger in fact, at best, her lungs getting more damaged each time. Imagine our horror when the priority list for COVID vaccinations came out and the elderly were way before her and proudly interviewing on the news nightly was a '97 year old Mavis from Bristol' , or whoever who had just had her vaccine.
I know it was numbers based on which groups were most likely to need hospital admission or die from COVID in the largest numbers risking the collapse of the NHS but still felt so ridiculously unjust to watch the very old and infirm in these endless queues whilst our twenty year old DD/DGD/Dsis was left at risk.

CrocsNotDocs · 07/02/2026 00:53

Childcare for under 3s is a negative experience for almost all children except children from vulnerable and chaotic households. “Studies” that show net benefits commissioned by the childcare industry and governments are an absolute cherry-picked crock of shit.

shouldicontactthisperson · 07/02/2026 00:57

Short boxy jumpers and wide legged jeans look awful on most people unless they are tall and thin (I say this as a short & dumpy person).

Giving kids names like Jaxon or Nevaeh or adding -Mae is automatically going to reduce their chances of success in life.

It is utter madness for higher earning women to marry lower earning men. And can’t be compared to the reverse situation.

I'd much rather someone bring their dog to my house than their kids.

Yes to this.

FamilynotMaiden · 07/02/2026 00:59

@shouldicontactthisperson Don't get your last one re high-earning women and low-earning men. I am the higher earner and it works for us 😀

In the first 20 comments I read three or four complaining that this sort of thread always gets swamped by racists and bigots.
In the first 110, I read just two other comments that could be called bigoted. Lots of others that were funny, intriguing or thought-provoking.

Sorry to disappoint those waiting to read something they could disapprove of!

Mayonnaise is revolting. Colour, texture, smell 🤢

You are my person.

Strangely I don't mind salad cream?

murasaki · 07/02/2026 01:07

Nobody enjoys eating chia seeds, massive salads and the like, they just enjoy feeling virtuous and telling other people about it to make them feel bad.

Dr Who should have stopped after Christopher Ecclestone. And possibly before that.

A significant minority of cases of ADHD are actually FASD. It slips under the radar,
particularly in middle class families as a FASD diagnosis relies on the mother’s honest disclosure.

What is your source for this? I’m genuinely interested.

Porridge doesn't fill you up. I'm starving again by 10am.

Same. I found out the reason by wearing a blood sugar monitor- it spikes my blood sugar (I'm not diabetic)

That’s good it suits you. For me though it means I can’t afford a divorce 😭

The whole concept of 'milestone/ big birthdays' focussed on an adult's age should be abolished. I do NOT mean that adults shouldn't celebrate their birthdays; just that they shouldn't be made all about age. And especially not in the workplace.

Thornton's chocolates are lovely, and make a great present (well, that seems to be unpopular on MN anyway!)

The best thing David Bowie ever did was the prologue in The Snowman.

Edited

I disagree.

The best thing he ever did was "The Laughing Gnome".

Can't disagree, my neighbour gave me a box for taking her stuff in for a few days, and they were much nicer than I remembered.

Tattoos look terrible on people

People don't understand safeguarding and are stunting their child's mental growth and
independence

Parents are too involved in their children's lives

People have become obsessed with the idea that you should take your shoes off indoors. If you ask an adult to do this it's very offensive to suggest they don't know how to use a doormat.

It's a good learning opportunity to teach children how to use doormats.

Unless you have crawling children the floor does not need protection

People have been tricked by companies that make cleaning products that they need to clean things, even themselves, as much as they do
