Inspired by a clip I just saw on Instagram.

Deep breath.

Here goes.

Robin Williams wasn’t particularly funny.

ETA “Start” obviously.

There's a right batch now... Car Seat Headrest... Snapped Ankles... Wet Leg... I like some of their music, but I deplore their 'that'll do' names...

That'll Do is probably one...

But I can't bring myself to hate Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs... (though we call them 'Seven Pigs')...

I'll counter with Dominic and the Dereckos, and Eek A Mouse! ...both very good band names.

What on earth is cultural capital 🙄Confidence comes from a person who is naturally intelligent and has a sense of purpose/ ambition. I have three children who were raised to feel good about themselves and achieved so much without going to a private secondary school. Caveat I did go to private school and my soul and confidence was destroyed!

I mean in the sociological sense - it isn't necessarily a good thing:

Trust me, I didn't have much fun at private school either!

Salad cream is bloody lovely. The Beatles were brilliant. Geoffrey Boycott was usually right.

I want to move to that area then😀

I have not looked into it, but there are probably some online news outlets/podcasts etc that only talk about positive news.

If anyone reading knows of any, please share Smile

Young children and babies shouldn’t be spending most of their waking lives in a nursery environment with strangers.

cadburyegg · 06/02/2026 23:51

Dating apps have killed the dating world. People don’t bother making the effort unless someone is 100% perfect because they know they can always go home and swipe right on the next person. But when everyone thinks like this it just means no one ever meets anyone.

We shouldn’t keep people alive who have zero quality of life.

Non resident parents who aren’t working or who aren’t making the equivalent of a full time wage on NMW need to be under intensive work searches if there is a CMS case open. That might help the benefits bill a bit.

A parent who sees their child less than half of the time should be paying more than half of their child’s expenses.

It’s perfectly normal and expected for higher earning families to fund their children at university. They’ll have less debt than poorer children and pay it off sooner, which is often conveniently forgotten.

It shouldn’t be expected that a single parent will marry again.

If it was cheaper to live in this country, the divorce rate would be higher.

UK holidays are great and so are kids parties at home. More expensive doesn’t always mean better.

The birth rate in this country would increase if women were looked after properly during pregnancy, birth and during the postnatal period.

frecklejuice · 06/02/2026 23:51

Coffee 🤮
Red meat 🤮
mushrooms 🤮

Separate bedrooms doesn’t mean your marriage is falling apart.

Queen, Bowie, Beatles, Foo Fighters, Robbie Williams, Take That and ABBA just aren’t that great.

spiders should be exterminated!

Dogs should not be allowed in public spaces such as restaurants and pubs. Unless they are a service dog.

Totally agree and say that as the owner of a very much loved dog 🐶

Coriander, parsley, or any other strong flavour herb chopped and sprinkled over a meal doesn't make the plate look any prettier and often ruins the meal ad the flavour doesn't go

This! I fucking hate miscellaneous herbs sprinkled over food where they ought not to be. They don't all add to the flavour.
Like unexpected visitors, some spoil the whole thing. It's not the more the merrier when it's herbs.

IVF shouldn’t be funded on the nhs unless you can afford to bring up, and care for the child.

I would say that IVF should not be on the NHS at all.
But I have never wanted children, and maybe struggle to empathise with the pain that infertility can cause when you are so desperate for them.

Not just that, unless you grow your own herbs, you will have to buy a bag and use just a bit. Then the rest just turns to mush in your fridge.

cadburyegg · 06/02/2026 23:56

Oh and the Swim England scheme needs a massive overhaul. 90% of families just want their kids to learn a couple of strokes to a good standard so they can swim a reasonable distance in a pool and have fun on holiday. Kids shouldn’t be held back from learning to dive, treading water etc just because they can’t do 20 metres butterfly.

summergin · 06/02/2026 23:56

I can/will walk my dog off leash (who has no interest in other people, unless they show interest in her, or dogs) in any park (country not swing) I want. If your child likes dogs and wants to pet/play with her she will love that but may well give them a big slobbery kiss. Is what it is and I won’t discourage/reprimand her for natural dog friendly behaviour.

IVF shouldn't be funded by the NHS for lesbians.

Unpopular opinions thrrads are just a way to show peoples prejudices.

Absolutely not.
It's a chance to state an opinion which is perfectly reasonable but doesn't go down well on this site for one reason or another.
EG. "most MIL's are perfectly reasonable people."

Missstified · 06/02/2026 23:59

Eating should be banned in cinemas. No one paid £15 to inhale someone's greasy nachos, sit on a sticky seat, or miss critical moments because the person behind them is popping crisp packets like bubble wrap. It's two hours. Two hours! Surely people can survive through that without stuffing their faces.

Schools should provide lessons in manners, but also - parents need to parent.

When on your own and out with your baby in the pram, just use the disabled loo rather than peeing with door open/holding it/letting a stranger watch your baby.

Private landlords are not the source of all evil.

Maybe not. But they ARE greedy leeches

I agree it's not easy - but I'm a foodie and very anti-UPF, and also have to cook for an initially resistant family - a couple of years down the line I've managed to make good vegan versions of all the posho family stuff I used to make (eg authentic Italian, Mexican, Middle Eastern and Indian/Pakistani food) and also found non-upf treats - most recent is blue cheese/camembert made with real cultures, plus Peters Yard crackers and Perello olives..

Wow, I am impressed.

I very much like the idea of doing this...... but I know from past experience that my culinary ideas don't translate to tasty reality. It's just not my forte, and ends up causing me more angst than eating cheese does.

If I was living on my own, then I might persevere, but the thought of inflicting my sorry attempts on to unsuspecting family members is unfair 😁

Oh dear. Another thread full of rude, offensive, classist, insults 'disguised as 'unpopular opinions....' How long before we get 'people who voted for Brexit are thick and uneducated.' And all the usual hate for anyone who may be thinking of voting Reform, or who believes in God, or anyone who has a child with a name that people think is 'common.' 🙄

I'll pass thanks....

Ricky Gervais’s skit about people on social media shouting at a billboard advertising guitar lessons comes to mind.

Outrageous op, you reeled me in with your thread title only to shatter my illusions with your ghastly opinion of my fave ever actor 😭😭

my unpopular opinion is that avocado is vile, the texture, the taste just 🤮
in my experience gentle parenting is just raising brats…
probably my most controversial one… some teachers are just pure monsters.
dc have had mostly amazing teachers, some id even refer to as guardian angels however there’s been a few teachers over the year that have been pure awful. Now neither of my kids are angels, one has additional needs and they other talks way to much but even other parents have had similar issues with the same teachers. Let’s normalise not always blaming the kids because sometimes all it takes is a bad teachers to ruin a good kid. Vice versa too… a bad kid can ruin a good teacher.

Anyone who says their kids 'aren't angels' is clueless as to what nightmares they are in class. I don't even know the story and I'm backing the teacher!

We don't have to separate the art from the artist and musicians/actors/artists/public figures who abused their wives/were adulterous/had a 17-year-old girlfriend at age 30 are not geniuses and don't deserve to be revered.
