Inspired by a clip I just saw on Instagram.

Deep breath.

Here goes.

Robin Williams wasn’t particularly funny.

ETA “Start” obviously.

Children should learn poetry by heart. So should adults.

Teajenny7 · 06/02/2026 23:39

Supermarkets should not sell alcohol.
It should only be sold in off licenses at a similar price to pubs, restsurants etc.

Me! I do. With onion 😋

I love tuna and salad cream sandwiches. I mix dill and chives in and use cream cheese instead of butter and it's delicious. 😁

Cultural capital is a sociological concept - I'm thinking of Bourdieu's work. I'm sure plenty of MC parents see it as a good thing; others would see it as a bad thing, as it might mean that those with the most merit are passed over in favour of those who have the right accent or drop the right references. I think it's real but that doesn't mean I think it's necessarily a good thing

The National Trust would agree with you.

SAHM isn’t a job if children are in school

Who said it was a job?

Truffle is the work of the devil. I don’t give a shit if it’s expensive and/or trendy. Keep that foul tasting shite away from my food.

The news should have 50% positive stories on it. And end with a heart warming story of human kindness.

If you're a vegetarian for ethical reasons, you should definitely look more closely into dairy farming.

I think it's worse than beef farming - cows forced to be pregnant and then the calf ripped away and taken to slaughter, over and over again. They literally exist to be a living resource. It's torture - at least beef cows get to escape by being slaughtered.

Edited

I am not a vegetarian, I do eat meat.

Having said that, I am aware of the downsides to the dairy and egg industries as well as the meat industry and I agree it's not nice.

At home I try to buy organic as much as possible for dairy, eggs and meat, as the organic dairy industry is a bit better, but I accept that when eating out I get what I am given.

I have flirted with going vegan a couple of times, but I don't like the over-processed "pretend" food - and I would struggle to enjoy a "natural" vegan diet for more than a week or so. I could give up meat easier than I could give up dairy and eggs.

I think most local news is close to that anyway.

It's lazy parenting that causes so many children to still be in nappies at school age.

Quite - but I think it instills them with confidence and cultural capital, which goes a long way (views on whether this is a good or bad thing will vary)

Or cultural ignorance?

This is a fact rather than an opinion, but a fact that most people willfully choose to ignore: men are statistically significantly much more in danger of violence in public and from strangers than women.

Women are much much more in danger of violence in private spaces and from someone they know. Yet the yarn of stranger danger is spun out again and again - it's a form of societal control of women and is actually quite misogynistic.

If someone tells me to be careful about going out on my own at night/in the dark, I tell them this and head on out on my merry way.

Yes of course this is true because men go around duffing each other up in pubs and at the end of night club sessions.

So you are seemingly fine with women being abused by people they know more than those they do not know?

And as a matter of fact women are at risk in public places from low level abuse especially at night time.

but bunny you are a TRA aren’t you

Oh dear. Another thread full of rude, offensive, classist, insults 'disguised as 'unpopular opinions....' How long before we get 'people who voted for Brexit are thick and uneducated.' And all the usual hate for anyone who may be thinking of voting Reform, or who believes in God, or anyone who has a child with a name that people think is 'common.' 🙄

I'll pass thanks....

My local news on the BBC is Points West, and it is never all doom and gloom, and they always end with a really feel good story.

What on earth is cultural capital 🙄Confidence comes from a person who is naturally intelligent and has a sense of purpose/ ambition. I have three children who were raised to feel good about themselves and achieved so much without going to a private secondary school. Caveat I did go to private school and my soul and confidence was destroyed!

You don't seem to understand that care for the vulnerable relies on a core that functions

That’s a huge assumption, and whilst here is not the place to get into it. Totally wrong - at least on my part. Your view isn’t just unpopular, it’s offensive and if you know your history the origins of modern eugenics.

I’m torn between reporting it and leaving it to stand as an illustration of what some people really think of the most vulnerable in society.

To put this into context you are talking about those without voices in society and without people to advocate for them, so children the disabled, the elderly, Those who are dying but those without the privilege of money or knowledge, or confidence to be able to self advocate. Your opinion is that they should be actively put last in the list of priorities in social policy in favour of those who are already healthier and wealthier, who already have more advantages. To give those with advantages more of all of those things because when they’ve got more there might be some spare to support the vulnerable people.

I agree it's not easy - but I'm a foodie and very anti-UPF, and also have to cook for an initially resistant family - a couple of years down the line I've managed to make good vegan versions of all the posho family stuff I used to make (eg authentic Italian, Mexican, Middle Eastern and Indian/Pakistani food) and also found non-upf treats - most recent is blue cheese/camembert made with real cultures, plus Peters Yard crackers and Perello olives..

IVF shouldn’t be funded on the nhs unless you can afford to bring up, and care for the child.
