Context that my dad said he couldn’t believe I was eating “all that”
don’t judge the oven food, it’s Thursday and I’m tired!

And tube of smarties claims to be 2 portions 🤷🏻‍♀️

I noticed this the other day, who gets halfway through a tube of smarties and goes "ooh I'm stuffed, I'll save these for another day"?

I think it means two mouthfulls? I mean you tip your head back and pour them in don’t you?

That looks banging.

You need some super cheap, super processed white bread and some salty butter, make a fish finger sandwich, perfection 👌

Haven't RTFT but are the "it would take me SIX WEEKS to eat all of that because I'm so teeny tiny I fall down drains" lot at it again?

😂😂
Yes, they are 😂

I wouldn't eat fried potato things. No nutritional value. Would do 2 fish fingers and the veg and it would be enough. Thats really a lot of food especially for such little value.

And the winner of the most sanctimonious post goes to .....

I eat pretty healthily 99% of the time. I don't believe anyone who says they never eat anything that could be described as unhealthy.

That makes more sense! It's safety advice so you don't pour too many in at once and choke; I knew it couldn't possibly be talking about portion sizes.

ThWildRose · 06/02/2026 15:37

I'd eat that easily. I don't eat meat or fish but when I used to, I'd definitely have a slice of bread with butter and sauce on top to make a sandwich out of some of those fingers (heaven)
If relevant: I'm a size 10, which I don't think is anyway overweight.
Enjoy!

Yes, yes they are. I am loving this thread.

"I couldn't POSSIBLY eat even one whole fishfinger. You must be so fat you have to go through doors sideways. Wait - unless this was you first meal since January. Then 3 fishfingers would be ok."

An adult woman needs 45g of protein a day. There's somewhere between 13g and 25g on that place. The people falling through grates need to think about the nutrition their body needs.

I’m trying to concentrate on adding rather than taking away. My previous eating disorder means if I reduce portions I just stop eating or skip meals. Previously I would have not had the veg but I’m on a fibre mission

Agreed. We all have easy meal nights - and op prefaced the whole thing by saying that's what it was.

Sartre · 06/02/2026 16:30

Maybe too much for someone who generally isn’t a big eater or is quite petite. I’m 5 foot 7 and very active, I definitely wouldn’t say this portion is too big!

StrawberryJamAndRaspberryPie · 06/02/2026 16:40

Imdunfer · 05/02/2026 20:01

They are already fried when you buy them aren't they?

If you are overweight then that's probably too big a portion, yes, though I understand the difficulties, and possibly unwise choices.

This makes no sense. ‘If you’re overweight it’s too much’…. So any calories overweight people eat is now over eating? OP is 5’11… her TDEE can absorb this 7-800calorie meal.

She’s overweight because she has hypothyroidism which fucks the metabolism. But that doesn’t mean she has to starve herself. She probably wouldn’t lose weight anyway because her THYROID is Under active aka her body doesn’t use up calories effectively.

StrawberryJamAndRaspberryPie · 06/02/2026 16:44

Also fried potatoes absolutely have nutritional value… potato is the man source of Vitamin C in the UK diet. It also contains fibre, CHO (necessary for fuelling the brain) and potassium and some B vitamins. The oil contains fats which, while saturated is best in small amounts, is necessary for human survival. Every cell in the body has a membrane made of fats, vitamins ADEK cannot be absorbed without dietary fat, the brain is hugely made up of fats (myelin sheaths in brain tissue).

Honestly people say things have no nutritional value value when they themselves have no idea about the human body.

Oh please stop shouting and getting hysterical. She didn't post about the thyroid until after I did.

By the time a potato has been deep fried there is less Vit C.

The other thing is the photo seems to show 'fries' more like waffles which are often coated in all kinds of stuff and would be classed as ultra processed food, compared to traditional chips, home made, either as oven chips or in a fryer.

FrodisCapering · 06/02/2026 16:52

My super skinny 5 and 7 year olds can polish off 5 fish fingers each, plus chips and veg. It seems absolutely fine to me!

StrawberryJamAndRaspberryPie · 06/02/2026 16:56

@Notmycircusnotmyotteralso two fish fingers and the veg is a meal of less than 200 calories. Either you’re massively undereating, lying or you are a major snacker.

The reduction in vitamin C doesn’t mean there is no vitamin C. The comment states ‘no nutritional value’. Even adding in UPF nasties there is STILL SOME NUTRITION. Even pure CHO is nutrition. If the person means ‘it’s not made of only healthy ingredients’ they should say that… not that it has NO nutritional value.

Illbethereinaminute · 06/02/2026 17:06

I don't think it's a big portion but I think you are serving your fish fingers all wrong.

You need
2 slices of white bread buttered, slathered with ketchup and mayo.
Put cheese on both sides of your bread
Add 4 fish fingers and some well salted homemade chips, quantity unknown, I do it by eye.

It's my absolute favourite way to have fishfingers and was one of my staple foods during lockdown. Partly why I gained weight but also the wine, the beer, the sitting around like a lemon...

Portion sizes are a great way to give people a rough idea of how much to eat but there really is no size fits all. Someone training for a marathon and having a very active will need to eat more than a couch potato with an office job.

Chinsupmeloves · 06/02/2026 17:09

No it's a decent portion. Xxx

MoiraRose11 · 06/02/2026 17:18

Seems like a totally normal portion to me, not big! But I’ve been known to eat a Big Mac meal with a triple cheeseburger on the side so perhaps I’m not the best person to ask 😂

tedibear · 06/02/2026 18:00

I don’t think it’s that much and I’m someone that doesn’t eat a lot. My tiny 8yr old wld have a gd go at this. I’d give her 4 fingers an less potatoes.

What is wrong with you!!!

No ketchup, just mayo!!

The rest I’ll go with……..

But I have a mad guilty pleasure (awaits to be massively judged), take away the cheese and replace with …. Creamed mushrooms (no sauces required) so think of the saved calories from the ketchup and mayo 😆.

Don’t ask me how I know and do not judge me until you’ve tried it!

Snails and frogs legs, have you had those? I like those.

Ive had sweetbreads which were very nice. Hearts are 'ok'.

Oh tongue, dont like that.

I've had hearts - and brains! - in the past but wouldn't have them now. I like tongue and used to work in a pub where the landlady used to cook, press (and peel - yuk!) tongue. Not had the other stuff though I'd probably try them.

And tube of smarties claims to be 2 portions 🤷🏻‍♀️

I've not eaten Smarties or most other milk chocolate bars /products (Twix used to be my favourite) apart from the odd Christmas Quality Street etc for over 40 years. Now I'm horrified by the price. But I do buy very dark chocolate and have a couple of squares after dinner. 100% cocoa - no sugar at all - is my favourite. The trouble with Smarties, like many UPFs, is that it's too easy to eat more than we need or is good for us, which is exactly what the manufacturers want in order to maximise profit.

I hope you can get some help for you eating disorder. Life is not meant to be spent stressing over every gram of sugar.
