Context that my dad said he couldn’t believe I was eating “all that”
don’t judge the oven food, it’s Thursday and I’m tired!

A meal for two? 5 year olds? Not adults surely!

Exactly, 2.5 fish fingers is a child’s portion.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 06/02/2026 06:21

These threads are a klaxon to all the teeny tinies who couldn’t possibly eat more than two bites.

It would be enough for two meals for me, though I might add more vegetables. I am very much an adult and a healthy weight.

So fat shaming isn't allowed but you can have a swipe at 'teeny tinies'? (I am neither, by the way.)

Are you quite inactive?

Not at all. But I eat three meals a day, usually have some fruit or yogurt or a pudding after my dinner and perhaps a couple of biscuits mid-morning. I just don't like eating a lot in one go.

So 2.5 fish fingers is a “meal”?

SardinesOnButteredToast · 06/02/2026 07:05

Portion size, i'd go one fewer finger, but extra chip things if I was eating that kind of thing so it would be about the same.

For me, with loads of vegetables and something for afters, yes it is. I'd usually have three fish fingers but I wouldn't have any of those potato things. If I was cooking for someone else, I'd cook more, probably add some chips and ask how many fish fingers they'd like.

SardinesOnButteredToast · 06/02/2026 07:07

Just reading backwards on the thread now. I redact my previous response. Actually this would feed my three grown children and have extra left over for the dog. You fatty fatty boom boom.

Snort.

So would you not have any carbs? Would you not have any carbs?

*Have any chips

Womaninhouse17 · 06/02/2026 07:15

This thread has taken a strange turn. OP posted a picture of her dinner and asked if it was too big a portion. Without knowing what else someone's eaten in a day, noone can say whether the portion is too big. They can only comment on whether it is too big for them. I don't know why people are now having a go at anyone who says they wouldn't have that much on their plate.

There's a carb coating on the fish fingers and that's a meal where I might have something like apple crumble for pudding.

No - I wouldn't have chips.

No... this would be a snack for my tall, slim sporty child...

Passthecake30 · 06/02/2026 07:25

I stopped buying fish fingers after everyone started demanding 8 here. I’d eat 6 I guess, and the chips, and need some bread to fill me up. I try to avoid those types of meals as they don’t cut the mustard! BMI 19.5.

So a meal of probably 250 calories? Seems extremely low!

CatchTheWind1920 · 06/02/2026 07:31

My husband is average weight leaning towards underweight more than overweight and he'd eat 7 fish fingers and more waffle fries.

I'm overweight but very slowly losing, and I'd eat 5 fish fingers, same amount of veg and slightly less waffle fries.

Oh I see, you fill up on the sweet stuff!

OP doesn’t mention a pudding, so I assume she does t do that!

Plus my pudding and two squares of dark chocolate. Some dinners would be more calorific with rice or pasta or potato (but not chips). I guess my breakfasts and lunches make up for it. I'm not thin.

Not especially sweet but I like something for afters. If the dinner has more carbs, I'd have fruit for pudding.

That’s why these threads are pointless really, I’d eat that and more for my dinner but bar Christmas Day I haven’t had a pudding since I was a child.

You'd mentioned previously a yoghurt or fruit, which made your calorific intake very low. You now said apple crumble and chocolate!

And no one is “having a go at you”, just wondering how you get your calories.

Obviously from puddings and chocolate!

RampantIvy · 06/02/2026 07:40

Gosh. There is some disordered eating on this thread.
