Why should Starmer resign? I don’t get it

I’m not a big fan, but I don’t understand why people believe he should go. Yes he appointed Mandelson as US ambassador when he knew about Epstein’s conviction and that Mandelson was still friends with him - which was wrong IMO.

BUT - people have known that was the case for over a year haven’t they? And Starmer got rid of him as ambassador as soon as he was first mentioned in the Epstein files last year.

Now all this extra stuff has come to light about Mandelson’s relationship with Epstein in the last few days and of course it is dreadful, but how is that Starmer’s fault? Aren’t these disclosures (due to the release of further documents from the Epstein files) as much news to him as they are to everyone else? I don’t think anyone knew the extent of Epstein’s depravity until recently apart from those involved - I don’t see how Starmer could have been expected to know.

Can someone with more understanding of the situation please enlighten me?

All the lefties wailing over transwomen when all this news about Epstein reveals a cruel predator and his network of famous friends and powerful men who will never go to jail for their part in his crimes. Have I seen any Guardian articles about this? No.

Wake me up when a man is sent to prison for the Epstein crimes. Heads rolling here but not a ripple over the other side of the pond

Of course, those on this side of the pond should be held accountable, but why on earth are there no American or international names coming up on the Epstein lists?

No party was elected saying they would get us out of the single market. Everyone knew that would be idiotic. The Leave campaign said we would stay in the single market. There should never have been a referendum based on lies in the first place. If you think leaving the single market was a good idea I don't know what to say to you. It's damaged business and the economy ever since. The tories should never be allowed to forget the damage they've done.

Edited

I voted remain. The economy was slightly on the rebound. Then Labour got in and it’s been a disaster ever since.

Have you forgotten that we were in recession for the last two quarters of 2023?

Yes it was classed as a technical recession, the same as in Germany.

There are a lot of unforced errors in this Government.

But I'd rather have a slightly ramshackle Labour Govt than an efficient Conservative Govt - because I don't like the Conservatives. Last time round they had their snouts in the trough, they are simply the political arm of the vested interests.

I'd rather have a Labour Govt prone to backing down than a Conservative Govt that doubles down; I'd rather have virtue signalling that performative cruelty.

Different side of the same coin sadly

People have got addicted to the drama, and the turnover. Prior to this gov, we had 5 Tory PM's in less than10 years, with endless gossip, crimial cases etc, which destabilised us further after Brexit. Someone is benefitiing from whipping up more destabilisation - Reform Ltd and Mr Putin, and Trump.

Agree.

I am.guessing for the same reason football managers resign

Why many politicians, prime ministers etc get replaced

We live in a "Now now now" world. Due diligence, safeguarding, honesty etc are all buried under weasel words like 'the optics' of a thing, sacking rather than allowing for someone having learned and now being .better than they were, of the wo/man at the top being disappeared and the lower echelon error maker being counselled and forgiven

It's weird... and apparently nobody's fault!

Really?

Due diligence - when he was advised against Mandelson, and it was known publicly in 2023 that he was at least as close to Epstein as Andrew MW
https://archive.is/19g6R

Honesty - when Mandelson had already been kicked out (sorry - 'had to resign') from 2 governments for financial impropriety.

Safeguarding - Mandelson will only have got through any type of vetting because the people at the top decided to ignore basic principles (who else in the civil service would have passed vetting with that history?)

Keir to Lenny the Leopard: Have you changed your spots, Lenny?
Lenny: Grrrrrrr......
Keir: OK Lenny. I believe you.
