‘Official estimates suggest the cost of scrapping the cap will total £13.6 billion over the next five years.

The Tories said families currently affected by the cap are in line to receive windfalls worth an average £25,000 each over that period.

But the biggest families will gain far more. Thousands of families with five children will receive around £10,900 a year while those with six children will get an extra £16,600 a year.
Almost half of the families involved have no one in work.‘

Labour benefits plan 'will hand £25,000' to biggest jobless families

Ministers will bring forward legislation on Tuesday to lift the limit on benefit payments which was imposed in 2017.

Yes. I know women who never work and just have kids to claim the child benefits. Now labour is scrapping the cap and creating a breed for all.

I am curious as to what you think the solution to this is.

If they never work and don't have any disabilities they don't benefit from it being lifted.

Why don't you fill the thread up with lots of stupid goat posts like you did last time. Just get it over with.

I think if they're all so worried about where their money is going, maybe they should take their own advice and use all this free time to get another job, then they won't need to worry.

Because like a hydra, when you cut off the head, two more grow back. Better to just watch people build themselves into a rage.

I think if the frothers put their energy into things like CAMHS, MH services, more suitable apprenticeships (not the bullshit tea making ones), less zero hour contracts, more guaranteed full time work, making employers take on disabled people and offer proper RA that does not set them up to fail... then there would be less people on benefits... but that wont happen.

Full time job and kids. No time to think about anything else. This is why I pay my taxes. To employ other people to worry about these things. Not sure where all my taxes go to though…

Most people aren't frothers. They are just not prepared to be derailed or shamed by people trying to weaponise disability or make excuses for people making lifestyle choices in respect of benefits. The idea that there is very little fraud in the system is ridiculous.

How we are going to pay for things is an important question.

I suspect most people would support a Norway style benefits system if we could afford it. Multigenerational unemployed households will need more stick than carrot I expect.

"weaponise disability" 😂😂😂

You want to tell people they should be working, and when they explain why they currently can't work, they're weaponising disabilities 😂

What apprenticeship is available to someone in their 40s?
The pay is so low on them.. they are for people still living with their parents.

Fortunate that I'm being made redundant in a couple of months then. I might see you at the job centre though.

Nah, I'm one of them good disableds who gets the long term PIP/LCWRA and all that. Properly disabled.

(On a serious note, sorry to hear about your redundancy and hope something comes up for you soon).

Why? You’ve got 25 years of working life left in you. And why is it too little to survive on? It’s better than being on benefits. I sure as heck would move in with family if I was skint and I’m 52.

I don’t think I’m alone in having family I could move in with if I couldn’t pay my bills, and I’d put any relative up indefinitely. It’s what family is all about. And yet everyone must get enough benefits to ‘live independently’. The majority of new graduates - even those with good jobs - move back in with their parents.

Again, tell me what useful apprenticeships there are for someone in their 40s.
It is not meant to be this way, but they are aimed at young people that are still living at home.
Move in with what family? If you have some you could realistically move in with, then you are privileged.

For real, there was a tea making apprenticeship in in my town. Was about £3.50ph, for a year... 37.5 hours per week. A level 2 qualification at the end.
No one needs a year to learn how to make tea. Total piss take.

Ok but you’ve written a list on what other people should campaign for as it would help. So which one would you do or is it a no to all you listed in that post?

I mentioned things that I thought would help. It was not a list of things I could do. I can not do CAMHS, that makes no sense.
