‘Official estimates suggest the cost of scrapping the cap will total £13.6 billion over the next five years.

The Tories said families currently affected by the cap are in line to receive windfalls worth an average £25,000 each over that period.

But the biggest families will gain far more. Thousands of families with five children will receive around £10,900 a year while those with six children will get an extra £16,600 a year.
Almost half of the families involved have no one in work.‘

Labour benefits plan 'will hand £25,000' to biggest jobless families

Ministers will bring forward legislation on Tuesday to lift the limit on benefit payments which was imposed in 2017.

As I said before, there literally aren't enough jobs for seekers. When you consider that ai is due to affect around a million jobs in London alone, and the govt are cutting eligibility all over, its only going to get worse. Only 25% of disabled people were born that way, 75% acquired it. You're far more likely to end up living in poverty than with riches.

Hating on the wrong people!

Have you actually bothered to ask yourself:

Why are there less jobs now?

And no, it is not because of AI.

The economic term is learned helplessness which has been on full display in this thread. Poorly designed economic inventives lead to that type of mentality.

It has been interesting to read their responses, which in all probability means that benefits will have to be brutally cut in 2029, as I really do not see these people adjusting their mindset in terms of making welfare spending more sustainable.

Yes you can absolutely see with some posters have fallen into a pattern of learned helplessness combined with a certain dogged persistence which I’m sure is necessary when claiming/remaining on benefits long term.
Agree drastic cuts are a coming.

Yep. I am not sure why my personal work history is being pulled apart on here.

Because despite all their protestations that their lives are so fulfilled and they're so busy working their fingers to the bone, they're a bunch of losers with nothing better to do.

Why don’t you give me your figures if you’re so knowledgeable? I can only speak of my own experience which is many couples in our local primary school living together now submitting two addresses to the school office and children claiming fsm because daddy lives with his parents.
Parents requesting an assessment for autism or adhd because they KNOW they can claim extra money for said child which then means the benefit cap doesn’t count.

My child is definitely autistic. I am most definitely not wanting an assessment for extra money and I am sure many parents are the same. Hopefully extra bloody support although pig might fly.

Alouema2 · 03/02/2026 22:21

@Foolaryh adhd is a thing most people have? And people just decide they have it to claim PIP?
Now we know you're a muppet lol.

Why do you think no journalist has ever demonstrated how "easy" it is to claim PIP fraudulently by going undercover and doing just that?

TheThinkingEconomist · 03/02/2026 22:22

Alouema2 · 03/02/2026 22:18

Also welfare spending as % has remained stable for decades. They're bullshitting & you're falling for it.

Could you please stop trotting this nonsense out..

Debt Service costs have tripled. From £40bn to £120bn.

Thats £80bn thats gone.

Do you still not understand this?

Coffeeandbooks88 · 03/02/2026 22:22

Pleased about this. Quite fancy a third child. 🤑🤣

There you are wrong.

The annual uprating to your benefits will be cut.

purpleflowergirl · 03/02/2026 22:24

@XenoBitchi was being sarcastic when you mentioned the bitchness and backstabbing on the Facebook groups.

anyway been lovely to chat/argue! I’m off to bed! Hope you guys all find common ground. For me PIP is needed, but more help is needed for those with mental health! Government needs more incentives to get people in jobs and make work pay! 💰 Finger’s crossed Farage and his cronies don’t get to power! But I’ll never vote Labour again after they’ve fucked over working people so badly! Xxx

But the basic UC rate is going up. So I think it kind of works out anyway. I am not sure. I do not really look into it, and I have no control over it anyway/

My DH works so so hard. He came from absolute nothing whatsoever to be the successful man he is today. Works tirelessly throughout the week and even has to work weekends. He even had to work on our holiday and comes back at 3am!

There's a reason he gets paid so much, he works so hard. DS tells me "dad works so hard. I'm worried about him. He does so much for us."

Do you work as well?

Lmktrf · 03/02/2026 22:31

Coffeeandbooks88 · 03/02/2026 22:29

We earn enough as a family as it is. My working hours suit me anyway. (And no we don't claim anything. Never even claimed child benefit and free childcare hours)

Might give your husband a better life style balance and less stress if you did.

They needed to get to 25k because that's what minimum wage is annually (-£300). I would imagine the number of families living off benefits with 6 kids is very tiny - I don't know anyone with 6 kids, do you OP?

6 kids with 25k a year doesn't sound like a good deal to me at all. That sounds like a life with zero luxuries and an incredible amount of drudge. Working for 25k is an infinitely better deal.

These articles want to manipulate you, don't let them do it.

I've got six children and I've also been temporarily on benefits and I was much better off.

18 years of temporary?

More than 18 if you have a lot of them.

BowstotheSettingSun · 03/02/2026 22:49

Yes. I know women who never work and just have kids to claim the child benefits. Now labour is scrapping the cap and creating a breed for all.

XenoBitch · 03/02/2026 23:14

Lmktrf · 03/02/2026 22:48

18 years of temporary?

Well, you can't claim once they are 18/out of education.
