‘Official estimates suggest the cost of scrapping the cap will total £13.6 billion over the next five years.

The Tories said families currently affected by the cap are in line to receive windfalls worth an average £25,000 each over that period.

But the biggest families will gain far more. Thousands of families with five children will receive around £10,900 a year while those with six children will get an extra £16,600 a year.
Almost half of the families involved have no one in work.‘

Labour benefits plan 'will hand £25,000' to biggest jobless families

Ministers will bring forward legislation on Tuesday to lift the limit on benefit payments which was imposed in 2017.

Those living on benefits paid by workers.

Disabled people, then. Just say disabled people.

And the ones that have spent their lives on benefits will get their care homes paid for in full whilst you have to sell your home to fund yours.

Edited

Well, what do you think should happen to someone who is not self funding for a care home? Be turfed out on the street?

You’re not really paying vat or council tax if you don’t earn your income from your own wages. You’re paying it out of benefits.

I worked for the NHS, so I was also paying for everything via taxpayers too.

purpleflowergirl · 03/02/2026 21:35

@XenoBitchgiving them a clear pathway back to work would be a good start! I mean this from a place of experience - I don’t begrudge PIP but I do think with a lot MH you can end up in a vicious cycle of getting worse and anxieties and depressions being allowed to fester and get worse!

purpleflowergirl · 03/02/2026 21:36

@TheThinkingEconomistor we could change the ending to Then Reform gets in power! Sad times!

PIP is not an out of work benefit.

People on means tested benefits get reduced council tax (not talking about single person discount) and other utility bills. Yes that includes the families on upto 70k in benefits.

Yet a low paid person or retired person (basically anyone not on means tested benefits) surviving on a fraction of that gets ZERO discount.

Edited

Do they?? Please tell me where to apply, as I'm on UC and had no idea. I pay full council tax and all utility bills with no reductions, bar the single person council tax discount. Brilliant news!

BowstotheSettingSun · 03/02/2026 21:36

PinkFrogss · 03/02/2026 08:21

Well it’s a fair question isn’t it. If someone genuinely believes they would be better off not working, and are clearly not happy about it hence starting a thread to complain. Then why don’t they stop working and claim benefits instead?

Edited

Maybe they have a moral compass?

XenoBitch · 03/02/2026 21:37

BowstotheSettingSun · 03/02/2026 21:36

FFS claiming benefits is nothing to do with morality.

Disabled people, then. Just say disabled people.

There are more people playing the system than there are disabled people unable to work.

Council tax reduction is via your council. If you are on UC, it is worth a look to see if you can get some help.
But yeah, there are no reductions for utilities if you are on UC. The only thing I have seen is help with water, and that is only if your water bill is over 10% of your income.

purpleflowergirl · 03/02/2026 21:39

@XenoBitchplease stop getting defensive at every comment! Whilst we’ve established you’re a genuine case there are people who abuse the system! It’s facts!

Lmktrf · 03/02/2026 21:39

I think about this. As a household paying the additional rate and husband working away from home constantly to provide for the family, we can't even keep what we earn. We have to fork it over for other families?

Why can't we keep what we earn? And you keep what you earn? What right does anyone else have to the income of another.

NorthXNorthWest · 03/02/2026 21:40

DontGoJasonWaterfalls · 03/02/2026 21:20

Omg yeah @XenoBitch feel sorry for the people able-bodied enough to work full time, don't you know they have it SO much worse with their functioning bodies and minds?

Hate to break it you disabled people don't have a monopoly on challenging lives or hard times.

Being disabled doesn't automatically make someone a good person or conscientious member of society. A disabled person like any able bodied person can still be a selfish piece of trash.

Crochetandtea · 03/02/2026 21:39

Do you have a definite figure for this?
Do you need time to pop to the loo to pull this out your ass?

ladygindiva · 03/02/2026 21:42

Crochetandtea · 03/02/2026 21:08

I often wonder how embarrassed those who are too lazy to work would be if they had to line up in front of the tax payers with their hand out every month.
There’s a mum of 7 in our village. Never worked a day in her life! How is that even possible? She got two of her low iq kids assessed for adhd.
The number of parents who want their children assessed for autism , add , adhd is astounding in 2026. Nope some of them simply have a low IQ. It happens when you breed with another waste of space.

You are disgusting and I'm glad I don't know you in real life. And fyi I'm autistic with an IQ of 140 and my autistic DD is gifted and the brightest kid in her year. You're just foul.

Crochetandtea · 03/02/2026 21:42

XenoBitch · 03/02/2026 21:37

Of course it is when you’re playing the system. No one is saying that disabled people should not claim benefits.
You disagree that it’s immoral to have 2,3,4,5 children whilst never working a day in your life.

I'd say that someone who can and does work choosing to give it up and go on benefits - which was what was being discussed in the post I responded to - very much has something to do with morality. We're not all scroungers.

You can not choose not to work, and live a cosy life on benefits.

Excellent! I’m glad you won’t be claiming benefits then. I never said autism meant low iq. I’m saying parents often mistake a low iq for some kind of disability when it’s just that their child has a low iq.

There are some people who do this and don't even bother to raise the kid properly. Like actually raise them to be good kind kids, actually help them with school work.

I've been on some nasty threads with some awful people on in my time on this site but this one really is the worst. I'm bowing out before some of the posters give me nightmares and destroy my fragile faith in human nature. Big hugs to any other disabled folk / relatives of disabled folk who have been sickened or saddened by some of the bile on this thread. X
