I can’t lie, Home Bargains. I just love it.

Waitrose.

I have a Sweaty Betty literally on the corner of my street. Needless to say, it’s 60% of my wardrobe. Have picked up some fab bargains by being able to pop by before work when a sale starts etc!

JaceLancs · 01/02/2026 22:42

Booths! And I do 😊

Thisgirlcandance · 01/02/2026 23:43

Waterstones. The ones with a cafe within it.

MissMarplesKnittingNeedles · 01/02/2026 23:53

Booths. I’d be bankrupt, but it would have been worth it.

Home bargains

LibertyLily · 02/02/2026 00:14

Another vote for Liberty which has been my favourite store for ever (you'd never guess it from my name, lol!), as much for the architecture and whole experience as anything else 😍

Otherwise M&S food hall or Waterstones.

Our nearest supermarket is Waitrose (4 minutes drive) which is where we shop most of the time. There's a small Waterstones there too, which is handy! Our nearest M&S with a huge food hall is about 20 minutes drive.

5foot5 · 02/02/2026 00:35

Another Booths lover here.

Perhaps it is fortunate that our nearest one is just over 10 miles away. Close enough to go occasionally for something special or a self indulgent wander; too far to be our regular shopping venue.

I usually find John Lewis a bit of a let down actually
We have a big one about half an hour's drive away and sometimes think "Oh yes, I bet John Lewis will have that." But we usually find that while they appear to have a good choice, it usually turns out that what they have is either ridiculously expensive (looking at you luggage department) or what you want might be on display but they don't actually have it in stock you still have to order it online (looking at you lighting).

Waitrose. I live in Ireland now and miss it so much 🙁

Yes Clifton Moor at York. 2 bacon buttiess and 2 lattes £7.40.
It's not the Ritz but nice enough.

Can't even get 2 lattes for that here (SE obviously)

Pinkwhales · 02/02/2026 02:39

I am very lucky as live within walking distance of Lidl (7 mins), Iceland, B&M, Aldi, Morrisons and independent shops (10 mins) plus a large Sainsbury's with an Argos (15 mins).
I mostly walk to the stores with my granny trolley. Wish we had an M&S though.

What do you miss?

I live a 5 minute walk from one but hardly ever go in there. I get my weekly shop kind frkm
Tesco.

they USED to have an own brand basil infused olive oil that was amazing, but they dropped it from their range.

oh & try other thing I lived was their olive rolls, but they changed them to 'long thin' sticks instead ' they're nowhere near as nice (I'm not supposed to eat bread & this does help🤣)

I'm vegetarian too.

but people always say 'Waitrose' & I'm not sure why?

HelenaWaiting · 02/02/2026 02:41

Waitrose.

SpiritOfEcstasy · 02/02/2026 02:46

I loved it all. The quality of their fresh fruit and veg. Their bakery and deli especially their almond stuffed olives. Great cheeses. And the free coffee. Great recipes too. I’m still making this nearly twenty years on 😂 https://www.waitrose.com/ecom/recipe/mediterranean-roasted-halloumi-with-basil-dressing My DDs loved attending their cookery school and they even hosted a GBBO party of one of my daughters birthdays …

FrozenFebruary · 02/02/2026 02:55

I live a 5 minute walk one direction to wsitose
10 minute walk the other to the village, mini sainsburys, mini tesco, post office. Pubs, cafes, butchers & a fresh fish mongers (not for me as a vegetarian!) 2 Charity shops, a couple of card shops/newsagents. Laundrette. Drs. Hairdressers. Barbers. Numerous takeaway places. Vets.

a ten minute drive to massive m&s. Tesco. Next, sainsbury.

15/20 minute drive to pretty much everything else mentioned (except the specific individual places)

I don't think I'd want any of them any closer though thanks.

even when I couldn't drive for a couple of months, nor walk into the village there really wasn't anything I wanted any closer.

our village isn't a pretty one & doesnt have a 'high street' & I do miss that from living eksewhere though, so even though it's pretty practical here location wise, I still miss living somewhere more vibrant & pretty!

That looks nice!

their recipes are online now,

maybe the ones I use (nearest 4) are all just too small to be impressive?!

I'll have to see where the nearest big one is. I think probably about half an hour away as it's with a John Lewis on the edge of a bigger town.

LardoBurrows · 31/01/2026 14:45

Well, obviously it has to be Fortnum and Mason darling.

But until I win the Euro lottery, I will satisfy myself with a large Waitrose.

DD works just round the corner from The Royal Exchange, so I ask her to get Christmas and birthday presents from Fortnum and Mason for a family friend. When DD was little she always thought said friend was 'posh' (she isn't at all), so it's become a bit of standing joke now.

They deliver to me. I once had to call them to ask them to let the driver know to be patient because I was on crutches having badly injured my leg. They sent me flowers.

Hufflemuff · 02/02/2026 03:52

M&S food 💚

marshmallowfluffster · 02/02/2026 03:58

M&S food

I can’t really complain, I live a couple of miles from Lidl, Aldi and Asda. Morrisons and booths the same, Sainsburys and Tesco a bit further and Waitrose about 6 miles. B&M is 3 miles away and home bargains the same!

A decent butcher and fishmonger. There aren't either of these anywhere local and I only shop for two so supermarket meat doesn't really work for us.
