I can’t lie, Home Bargains. I just love it.

Costco! Sadly am a 2hrs 45 mins drive away from one.

ThePoshUns · 31/01/2026 16:05

A good bakery and butcher/ deli

mismomary · 31/01/2026 16:08

M&S no question

For those who have said Lidl what do you recommend from there?
A local one has just opened and I've been in but couldn't find anything that I fancied, we've already got an Aldi.
I'd been told the bakery was amazing so I had a croissant and it was nice but no better than Morrisons.

Mixed frozen seafood, pork shoulder steaks, cheese and bakery.

BillieWiper · 31/01/2026 16:16

Lidl or Aldi but they sell cigarettes and vapes and open 24 hrs.

Theda13 · 31/01/2026 16:17

M&S or Home Bargains

BitOutOfPractice · 31/01/2026 16:18

I live a 7 minute walk from the city centre that has most of the high street shops mentioned here. I walk through a large M&S food hall to and from work every day as it cuts a corner off my walk. I also have John Lewis another 1-2 minutes further on. The reasonably big Primark is closer.

I’ve got 2 cinemas, a small theatre and 42 pubs within 10 minutes walk.

Are you jealous? 😁

I can’t think of a shop I’d need closer! Erm, TK Maxx? That’s a 10 minute drive away.

Flouryspud · 31/01/2026 16:20

Can I have 2?
Home Bargains and Waitrose. HB is brilliant but a long drive so I stock up, I’d love to be able to nip in more often. There’s no Waitrose at all near where I live, so that would be a treat especially to find reduced specialty stuff

ScrambledEggs12 · 31/01/2026 16:21

IKEA, for the meatballs. It's a 2 hour drive to IKEA for us.

Butchyrestingface · 31/01/2026 16:22

M&S Simply Foods. 😋

Do you want me to pick an aisle?

aLFIESMA · 31/01/2026 16:23

Waterstones, but then I'd have no funds left for shopping!

EllenWest · 31/01/2026 16:25

Just a decent traditional bakery, in fact I can’t think of a non wanky bakery anywhere anymore

llikeyourbum · 31/01/2026 16:27

I live in walking distance of an M&S Food and I LOVE it.

RedRiverShore6 · 31/01/2026 16:30

I live about a miles walk from a Waitrose and M&S and quite a few clothes shops but I do wish we had a John Lewis

Advocodo · 31/01/2026 16:32

A food superstore such as Tesco or Sainsbury’s because that is the shopping for food is my most regular shop. I like to get fruit and vegetables almost daily so they are fresh.

BellaPommefritio · 31/01/2026 16:36

Burford Garden centre

Katemax82 · 31/01/2026 16:39

Waitrose, the one in the town nearest has good reductions and I always get a free coffee

There's a traditional bakery near my daughter's school but the only nice cakey things they do are macaroons, and there's ALWAYS 2 cars parked immediately outside of it so I can't park there while my baby sleeps (id have to use the village car park and take my sleeping son out the car)

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 31/01/2026 16:51

I used to live a literal 5 minute walk from Waitrose. But that was the ONLY good thing about where I lived. I’d like to be able to reach Aldi and M and S Food on foot - they’re about a 10 min drive but I can’t drive for medical reasons and it’s too far on foot

lizziedripping98 · 31/01/2026 16:55

Where i live is a stones throw from a
Aldi
B&M
Morrisons
And a Polish shop that sells the most amazing cakes, spices, meat etc. I am very lucky but I would happily swap b&m for a Home Bargains- i love taking my time going down each aisle. Edited to also add, I wouldn't mind a m&s food hall too lol

The bakery is shit. But most people don’t have good taste

Xmasbaby11 · 31/01/2026 16:58

I live a 10 min walk from Lidl, B and B and Food Warehouse .. it’s so handy and they aren’t expensive shops so I don’t overspend. Even though I prefer Sainsbury’s for grocery shopping, I don’t want it nearer as I’d spend a fortune!

curious79 · 31/01/2026 16:59

A large Waitrose

Pentalagon · 31/01/2026 17:01

There’s a fabulous independent green grocer that isn’t quite in walking distance. Getting there is doable but they lugging the haul home isn’t.

ickky · 31/01/2026 17:02

Feeling a bit sad reading this, we all used to live within a ten minute walk of bakers, butchers and a greengrocer.
