Words and phrases that drive you insane...

Certain words (usually nonsense or pseudowords) and phrases really grate on me, sometimes to the extent I don't bother reading the rest of a narrative if I stumble across a word or phrase on my hit list, halfway through something.

There are plenty, but a few to kick off:

Holibobs. It's not even an abbreviation for goodness sake.

Chillax. Just why?

"You do you" - this seems to be the in phrase at the moment, especially with the younger generation. It always sounds vaguely condescending to me

Chrimbo. Please, no

Nom nom nom. This one is right up there with holibobs!

And "let's take this offline" - unless you're going to send me a letter in the post about it, you're still going to have to contact me online!

‘In my era’ , absolutely despise this!!!!! Eg in my fake tan era.

When DH was working he was approached by a lot of agencies who would start by saying.'im reaching out to you '..he said it made his skin crawl.

‘gift’ used as a verb. For example ‘my husband gifted me x for Christmas’ instead of ‘my husband gave me x for Christmas’. HATE IT

• between you and I (I know this is a grammar one but some people use it to sound correct when they are actually being most INcorrect!
• ‘to I’ when it should be ‘me’. My adult stepson does this - ‘ He told wife and I’ Grrrr!

• we are pregnant-ok and good luck with pushing a 7 pound baby out of the end of your penis.

‘Naice’ - strictly a MN feature afaik but I really really can’t stand it. Makes me shudder a bit when I see it.

Chillax is awful but I say it to my kids just to annoy them.

I agree that "give your head a wobble" is really annoying. How does it even make sense?

I hate "I'm based in...." When they mean they live there. I don't mean when they say it in relation to where they work, I mean when they are talking about where their home is. It's so annoying.

“Fast forward”. It’s everywhere on MN and adds nothing to the meaning of a sentence. For example, “DH and I got married in 2022. Fast forward to last week and he …”. Just say “Last week he …”!

Americans also say "real quick" for no reason. That's annoying.

I actually do say I’m going to the shop for picky bits 🤣 I didn't know that was annoying!

I hate when people say ‘as a ….’ Or ‘…..here’ makes me cringe. It’s like saying everyone listen to me I’m right.
