To think far-right evangelicals, so called 'Christians' forget that God is the final judge?

The Bible at least says so. I'm not religious btw.

This lot seem to be such a hateful mob. Those in the US and here in the UK.

The most judgemental, hypocritical twats of all time. A massive pull back on women's rights, murder, kidnapping... disappearances, sychophantic behaviour towards the filthy rich, powerful and corrupt, vitriolic onslaught of brown/asian/african people, disabled and LGBT. Not even the lowest of whispers from this mob about rampant domestic violence, paedophilia, rape and femicide from White men in the US and UK.

The Orange Blob and Tommy Tens/Fibbing Farage seem to worshipped as the US and UK's respective new messiahs. AIBU to think far right Christians are a disease and will be the death of Western civilisation?

Please correct me if I'm wrong. Please add any other observations you have made. I am fully aware that there are other cultures/countries were there is discord or mayhem though somewhere in their history they have imperialism and more recently the US to thank for that.

When is the fascism going to end?

Why are you trying to stir up a hatred for Christianity? You are just as bad as the people that say all Muslims are terrorists IMO

ghostyslovesheets · 25/01/2026 16:32

@Kingscallops my mother and eldest daughter are Christian, as was I - they would bash these so called Christian’s along side most sane people

Yep, so many Christians I know do NOT approve of the atrocities that are occuring in the west in name of Christ Jesus. So called followers of Christ? My arse.

The only evangelical Christians I have ever met in the UK have been African, and a few Caribbean people. I say this as someone who grew up in that kind of environment.

I find this thread bizarre, I’ve never met the kind of person you describe.

Where are the devout white evangelical Christians who sing gospel every Sunday and preach sermons against brown people? What does Christianity have to do with ableism? Every Abrahamic religion (in general) is unsupportive of LGBT.

From how you write, it sounds like you need to stop reading the guardian and get off TikTok honestly.

Once again, Christians are low having fruit. Very odd thread.

If I'm trying to stir up anything, it's to highlight these religious zealots and what their MO is.

Nope if you understand the debate these people aren’t Christian’s- they are using selected message from the bible and the cloak of Christian values to justify their actions - actual Christian’s should be horrified by them

Ah, more Christian bashing. The only religion that's acceptable to publicly slag off, well aside from Judaism.

@Kingscallops I'm a practicing Catholic. I don't think what the far right evangelical movement is doing is what Christ intended.

The move further towards far right politics is pushing some people (flag shaggers, asylum hotel shouters) towards "this is a Christian country, innit". Plastic Christians.

Why do we have lesbian and gay clergy in CoE? ...

I do feel for black and asian conservative Christians, subserviant conciously/unconsciously.

They claim to be Christian, but they are not (I might even claim they are worshiping false idols)

Anyway “love thy neighbour” is a central pillar of Christianity - I wonder what part of that “love” is rounding up, imprisoning, then deporting them.

Do unto others as you would be done by.

Judge not lest ye should be judged.

Etc.

They just cherry pick bloodthirsty bits of the OT or dodgy bits of Pauline philosophy. If they just stuck to following Christ's message then no one would be getting killed.

When is the fascism going to end?

People asked the same of Jesus. What did he reply?

“Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s”

Sounds like his message is to go along with it. He certainly didn’t join with the agitators seeking to overthrow the regime.

(Obs, fascism is a modern concept. But Rome then was an autocratic, militaristic regime that suppressed political dissent and was sustained by slavery).

I don’t think Jesus was advocating it either. I just think those who are certain that Jesus would align neatly to their modern pluralistic, democratic politics have to ignore a lot about what Jesus actually did prioritise, praise and condemn in his own time.

WMW · 25/01/2026 16:50

Gosh OP, you're going to have a real shock when you meet hardline Muslims or Hindus.

But sure, only Christians are right-wing, misogynistic, violent or hypocritical 🙄

TheMorgenmuffel · 25/01/2026 16:52

I dont believe religious extremists do believe in their god. I think they use it to gain power or wealth etc

I dont think someone can do things their religion is against or which are immoral or illegal in the society they live in if they truly believe in an afterlife and judgement.

I am horrified. I am horrified at the MAGA cult and its Christian following. The aren't Christians, the do not follow Christ's word.

There is one or two loosely translated, into English, lines of scripture that could be interpreted as homosexuality being a sin. That's it, that's all.

They are not bashing Christianity, they are pointing out the hypocritical nature of those who say they are Christian, and then behave in the most unchristian like manner.

I’m a Catholic. The Pope, who is infallible and Gods representative on Earth, is very clear about how we should welcome immigrant and refugees, and how we should only seek to spread Peace & Love - so Vance might want to check out his understanding of Catholicism

Yes, as an atheist, I see four very distinct types of "Christian".

There are those who truly strive to live their lives in accordance with Jesus's teachings. They don't generally feel the need to convert others but they do typically spend a lot of time quietly doing stuff to help people who are vulnerable or in need. Including some who have dedicated their lives to helping asylum seekers and refugees.

Then there are those who like to talk a lot about their faith, and do their best to persuade others that they have all the answers. Their adherence to Jesus's teachings tends to be quite performative and relatively superficial from what I have observed, because they typically put more emphasis on bringing people into the church than actually living in accordance with its teachings.

Then there are those who follow the rituals of Christianity and perhaps find it comforting for themselves but don't really mind whether or not others share their beliefs and don't appear to be particularly moved to live their lives any differently because of their faith.

And then there are those who claim to be Christian but act in direct opposition to the teachings of Christianity, and use the name of the religion to try to justify or legitimise acts that are anything but Christian in nature.

I have huge admiration for the first group. I find the second group mildly irritating but generally harmless. The third group are also harmless, and if their faith helps them, then I'm happy for them. But the fourth group are positively dangerous and a scourge on our society.

Sadly, the fourth group appears to be on the rise at the moment.

Lol. Where have I said their aren't hardline muslims and hindus??? I live here. With white men, in white majority country. I have never faced my rights being questioned as a woman HERE by a muslim or hindu hardliner. Ever. I have never been abused, raped or held in contempt to my face by a muslim or hindu man I've come across in my life. I suppose many have, whether here or living elsewhere. British society is just as misogynist, just in different, less overt ways.

There is one or two loosely translated, into English, lines of scripture that could be interpreted as homosexuality being a sin. That's it, that's all.

“Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn ‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother’” (Matthew 10:34-35)

“I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division” (Luke 12:49, 51)

“For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another” (Romans 1:26-27)

That’s without touching the OT.

Despite appearances, I’m not here to claim that ‘correct’ Christianity is right-wing. You can make a strong left-wing case too from other bits.

But there’s an awful lot of certainty from you, OP, on what God’s politics really are. God is the final judge, remember?

As someone once supposedly said: “first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”

So let's see how it goes when a thread is made about Islamic hypocrisy. You might be taking the OP at face value but I'm not. As for my derailing the thread, I'm perfectly entitled to remind the OP that all religion has its downsides, just funny how it is always Christianity that gets highlighted - every time.

ghostyslovesheets · 25/01/2026 17:07

just funny how it is always Christianity that gets highlighted - every time

funny that - are we on the same MN? Plenty of threads about Islam here not so much Christianity

but, this thread isn’t about Christianity anyway - it’s about right wing politicians using Christianity and Christian values - that they cherry pick, to justify their non Christian behaviour
