I think he has finally lost any marbles he had in his tiny little brain!

They seem quite spineless and just nod along to Trump. Anyone got any balls in America care to fact check him?

I expect CNN will find a way to get rid of him at some point

Daniel Dale - Senior Reporter | CNN

Daniel Dale is a senior reporter for CNN, based in Toronto. Since joining CNN in 2019, he has fact-checked political claims from President Donald Trump, President Joe Biden and others.

Hopefully not. The world needs more fact checking

Trump is a cxxt, along with anyone else who supports him on anything at all.... disgusting man and the sooner we have nothing at all to do with the US the better.

Special Relationship is dead and buried.

& the Labour Govt's so called condemnation is very weak, shameful, still sucking up and getting kicked in the teeth.

Badenoch has got this right.

HRTQueen · 23/01/2026 13:54

He has always been this way. He rambles more but he has always said provocative things, he is racist, sexist and simply does not care if he is being disrespectful backtracks, ignores when he has been pulled up for contradicting himself or policy and has let it be known his plans for the future.

Unfortunaly losing (not in his words) the 2020 election gave him and his team more time to plan their project. is actions are all personal he could not give a fuck about world peace, its money, his ego and now leaving a legacy which he certainly is in the most destructive ways for the US

At last leaders are standing up to him, what they need to be careful of is making this about themselves it has to be collective but why they have not before or why they are acting shocked I can not fathom

Badenoch has it right going running to Americans to undermine the govenrment over Chagos? She says whatever is expedient for Badenoch. She’s not thinking about the country at all.
The response is highly diplomatic but that doesn’t make it weak. ‘Sucking up’ is a very juvenile term for very adult situations like this. We can’t have ‘nothing to do’ with the US. That’s just not possible.

I really want the Trump defenders to come on and defend this. I have to think it's a reach even for them? Or are they too busy defending the kidnapping of a 5 year old?

I couldn't sleep last night - I kept thinking of that bewildered little boy wearing his bunny hat. I cannot believe some of the comments I have read on MN of all places, a parenting site. And to think that Farage wants an ICE private army style group in the UK. Shameful, utterly abhorrent. Both him and the orange turd.

Yeah being diplomatic has got us what exactly? kicked in the teeth by Trump and those around him, they are laughing at us.

Of course we can move away from the US, why do people think we always have to go crawling to them?

Badenochs condemnation was far harsher than Starmer's and all politicians say what they think is expedient, you surely know that?

If i want to make (what you call) childish insults i fucking well will, the guy is cunt and few things i have ever heard have made me more angry, i feel so sorry my cousin right now.

We (meaning European leaders in general) got him to back down on Denmark. What kick in the teeth are you referring to?
I dislike Trump as much as you and wish we didn’t have to deal with him, but we do and provoking him to actually attack a NATO country would be silly. Badenoch hasn’t condemned him more. And she didn’t condemn his comments about NATO servicemen hanging back from the front lines at all for quite some considerable time (I guess until she saw which way the wind was blowing on that). She’s agreed with him rather a a lot recently.
I didn’t say we couldn’t move away from the US incidentally, I definitely think we should be moving closer to the EU and reducing our dependence on the US. What I said was that we can’t completely stop dealing with them, which is what you said you wanted. Nobody is ‘crawling’ either.

Edit: where did I call anything a childish insult? I said it was a juvenile term. Which it is b

persephonia · 23/01/2026 15:37

The EU and UK need to do more to defend Ukraine. The one bright spot in all this is that maybe, with America losing interest and things changing, we can provide support in a less hesitant way. Previously America wanted the EU to send Ukraine weapons etc but was hesitant about them being used on Russian soil.
We do have more weapon stocks we can send. But if Europe is having to worry about America trying to take Greenland they won't feel safe reducing their weapon stocks by any more.** Or even sending troops in a peacekeeping capacity should there be a ceasefire.
If Europe can just get Trump to back the fuck of on Greenland it makes it easier to help with Ukraine. Since America can't be relied on at all there.
The ultimate nightmare scenario would be America and Russia doing some sort of pincer movement on Europe. Much like Germany and Russia did to Poland actually. I don't think that's likely now but it is definitely a possibility for the future. The only way to avoid it is to show strength.

** It's not even about being able to beat the US. But it would be awkward if we were completely out.

Starmer has now come out more strongly, suggesting an apology... which is good but behind the opposition, given his ratings, he needs to be out of the blocks very quickly on this sort of thing.

The UK/US relationship is no longer a "normal" friendship between countries but an abusive one & it can no longer be blamed on Trump alone, its the entire administration.
Starmer claims we have a very close relationship with the USA...Really?

Like all bullies, Trump will just keep dishing it out, so long as we allow him too.

Did he back down on Greenland? he appears to have completely forgotten what he asked for.... two very different things.

But who knows?

DuncinToffee · 23/01/2026 16:18

Starmer says that Trump's remarks are insulting and appalling and that he should apologise, what is wrong with that?

Nothing wrong with that, but he's taken all day to say it.

Lopteluga · 23/01/2026 16:38

The number of people who think he’s going to apologise…. he’s not, because he’s totally, utterly shameless.

Emily Thornberry was very clear in calling it an absolute insult last night and Starmer said Trump was wrong in the daily briefing this morning.

DuncinToffee · 23/01/2026 17:05

This is how it is reported by AP breaking news

UK's Prime Minister Keir Starmer slams President Donald Trump for "insulting and frankly appalling" comments about non-U.S. NATO troops in Afghanistan.

Come on guys see sense. If it wasn’t for the US we’d all be speaking German and a little bit of Japanese now

This thread isn't about the US - it's about Trump.
But even when he's gone (and lets hope that's soon..) he will have undoubtedly damaged US-UK/Europe relations for a very long time.
He's revealed the massive vulnerability in continued reliance on a nation who we assume will always be benign.

As i understand it, the remarks, this morning, were from a no10 spokesperson.

Starmer never said Trump should apologise, he said that he (KS) would apologise...

I think and i accept its easy for Badenoch, KS should have been on the front foot with this and yes, demanded an apology.

Trumps remarks are way beyond "wrong"

Families who lost family members are incensed.

I think you're splitting hairs, here. Starmer isn't the only one to have phrased it that way. It's a statement of what a reasonable person would do when they had learned of their error.

His earlier statement was very weak. There has also been a poor response from the White House which fails to address Trump's disgraceful comments.

Perhaps, but this is why KS is seen as "Weak" "Wishy-washy"

What Trump said is far beyond an "Error" and he isn't "Reasonable" either.

On "Close Relationship on Security and Defence..." no we have not, Starmer appears to have forgotten that Trump threatened the UK with (an additional) 10% and then 25% Tariffs... that would have wrecked our economy.

Why the fuck have we even got a 10% tariff?? from our "Friend and Ally"

Trump has also sided with Russia, against Europe and that includes the UK.

KS is living in the past.

Those saying 'be grateful, without the US we'd be speaking German' don't realise that this administration is systematically dismantling everything that the US of the time have built. They are destroying their very legacy. In fact, anyone who ever had any appreciation for the US has their heart broken over this fucking disgrace.

Again, they're not really saying that. They're making fun of Trump, because he literally said that in the insane speech. Never mind that he was in Switzerland, where lots of them do in fact speak German.

It's nonsense anyway, countries occupied by the Nazis didn't start speaking German.
