Duncan Bannatyne says some men who use women only spaces are perverts

I think he's wrong.

I think any man who uses a woman only space (outside of the janitor/cleaners when there are no women present) is a pervert as soon as he crosses the threshold

Then transwomen will be fine using the men’s cubicles right?

out of curiosity, how do you even check if someone is born male or female - and is today a male or female?

In a realistic way, not going for DNA test or other nonsense, what shop will start doing that 😂

Umm. By using our eyes? Or are you saying no one call tell whether anyone is male or female? There was a female raped repeatedly in a male psychiatric ward as the men could tell she was female. How do you think they knew? Did they just guess? She was put there because the staff wanted to “respect her gender identity”.

you need to get out more. Or see a bit beyond your prejudice and assumptions that all people fit your stereotypes so you can safely decide who is male and who is female.

I would love to see you standing at the entrance of a public toilet challenging someone because you assume you know their sex and gender, and how you would enforce your assumptions.

Because that's what you expect shops and public places to do?

oh FFS. For safety and reproduction, we have evolved to be able to instantly recognise a member of the opposite sex, regardless of race, age, or whatever they might be wearing.

This evolutionary skill is encoded into our DNA.

On discriminating the sex of a stranger. Humans beings - like most mammals - are bloody excellent at recognising the sex of a stranger.

but if no one can tell who is male or female, why are males with a trans identity afraid of using male facilities? Surely the men in there World not know that the males with a trans identity were not male and just assume they should be in the male facilities?

Couid just really have stuck with “Some men are perverts”

It's in reference to those men who enter women only spaces,
not ALL men and not even all men who claim to be women - there are many who would never dream of imposing themselves on non-consenting women and little girls.

you are trying to be clever, but MN is full of threads with poster screaming at the idea of a boy past the age of 8 or 10 in women's toilets.

Thankfully in real life, many of us live in a world surrounded by men and no one is especially at risk.

In a world where one in 3 women have been subjected to sexual violence by men you think women are safe from men really?

Pinkertoner · 21/01/2026 13:29

All transwomen who use women’s single sex spaces I see as perverts. They can use the men’s. PLENTY of them do because they respect women’s right to safety, dignity and privacy. Those that don’t are the bad ones.

NotMyRealAccount · 21/01/2026 13:47

I agree with Mr Bannatyne. Some men accessing women's single sex spaces are perverts. The rest are very entitled men who take pleasure in stepping over women's boundaries even if they don't have a directly sexual motive.

I'm totally over trying to get my head round there being exceptions who are "genuine". If he acts like a predator, he's a predator.

Binglebong · 21/01/2026 14:04

ThatCraftySquid · 21/01/2026 13:06

but "women's toilets" ARE enclosed cubicles anyway? What difference does it even make?

Enclosed cubicles has a precise meaning (there's a poster on here who is incredibly knowledgeable and can give more details). Basically it has to be walls and doors floor to ceiling with no gaps and the sink inside. It's a separate room rather than a room divided by cubicles.

They are actually not as safe as noone can see if someone has fallen and are easier for attacks as you can force someone inside and no one outside can see, whereas with the cubicle set up you have people going in and out who will disturb them.

notallymcbeal · 21/01/2026 14:04

I don't think all trans women are perverts but an awful lot of them are. I don't think any of them should be using womens spaces. The problem really took off when Stonewall shoved all categories under the 'trans' umbrella. We all knew a transsexual was different to a transvestite or a drag queen.

Duncan Bannatyne is one of the few who has, once he became aware of this, ensured that the changing rooms in his facilities were based on sex not gender, so I do feel it's a bit unfair to pick on him. I think he's accurate in what he says and fair in what he does.

Pinkertoner · 21/01/2026 14:14

There are plenty of transwomen who just want to get on with their lives. They don’t want to access women’s spaces / sports / recognition and awards etc, they just want to live their lives. I have no issue with these people whatsoever.

Those who try to take things from women? Utterly disgusting vermin.

GoatBusted · 21/01/2026 14:16

I don’t believe all TW are perverts, but if they’re ok with entering female only spaces when it’s clear they’re not welcome then they might as well be.

What is llikely to happen s a continuation of what's already started to happen.
Women are more confident of challenging men in women's spaces and more likely to fetch staff or security to have them removed, complain to their employers etc.
This means that everytime a TIM chooses to enter a women's space, he will be doing so in the knowledge he could be clocked and challenged and become upset and dysphoric at the demonstration he hasn't passed; then may experience the humiliation of being asked to leave. This is likely to make TIM a lot less comfortable in using these spaces, and hopefully more enthusiastic about seeking out unisex ones than they have been so far.
So while you're correct, the clarification of the law doesn't guarantee an end to men trying to access women's spaces, it should serve as a deterrent. Which is certainly progress from where we were when they believed themselves entitled and welcome and no woman dared to tell them otherwise.

I have seen men using ladies toilets because they were the only ones with baby facilities (how ridiculous that it's still so common today!)

No one privacy and dignity was hurt because a man saw them washing their hands. - and of course none of the men were pervert.

Neither are the young boys who are there so their mum keeps an eye on them

Of course not everyone is a "pervert". I am more worried about people who are so strung up they see perverts everywhere

There is a world of difference between a little boy using the women's toilet and an adult man doing so, in full knowledge that he is making women in there uncomfortable.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 21/01/2026 14:45

Just pointing out that the sex crimes of indecent exposure and voyeurism exist for a reason. No individual or organisation should be giving any men the opportunity to commit these crimes.
Hence single sex showers, changing rooms, toilets etc.

Because they identify as a woman so will be dressed accordingly. Don’t be facetious. Also to the other pp. where is the evidence that a ‘lot’ of trans women’ are perverts. We clearly only hear about the scandal.

Because any decent bloke will use the men's. No man I know would go in the women's. Men police themselves, as they should.

Or are you saying there are some men who won't do that?

Oh so we are to separate facilities by stereotypes then, is that what you mean?

and the stats show that transwomen are more likely to be incarcerated for sexual offences than other men.

I cannot wait for someone like you to offend, insult (and hopefully get sued) for refusing access to a toilet to a woman "because she looked or dressed too masculine" or "wore too much make-up and looked like a drag queen"

while blissfully ignoring a male looking like what YOU think women must look like 😂

I identify as a woman, which is great because I was born female, so that makes it easy for me. And my kids.

Care to clarify what "dressing accordingly" means please?

Just so I know what I am supposed to dress like, and what my daughter is supposed to dress like.
