My doctor was late to my appointment because he had been at the local country hotel full of asylum seekers...

When was the last time you had a home visit? Is this a way of managing the " problem" by them taking clinics there? Is it a way of hiding this issue? I understood they did not have access to the NHS yet I see massive bags of medicine labelled for this hotel too at the dispensary. We wait about 6-7 weeks for a routine appointment.

It's sad that this cannot be discussed. It's not goady. It's a matter of fact for some people. What is Labour's solution? To build new homes for these men. How do people on council waiting lists feel about this. We ARE allowed to raise these issues.

We are allowed to raise these issues, and the majority of British people agree with you.

However, remember that mumsnet is used by paid agitators, political lobbyists and so on.

One way of stopping discussion is calling people names such as racists, acting like you are an idiot, ( writing 'sigh' as if you are so tedious)...and so on.

Just know, that is you are reading this, and not happy with paying tax towards men who we are not responsible for, that you are not alone.

Vote wisely!

Sp people are aware and can raise it with their MPs if needed.

Healthcare for asylum seekers should not be at the detriment of everyone else, obviously.

But it doesn’t sound like the OP has suffered any clinical detriment. She just sounds annoyed about a routine appointment.

Gloriia · 17/01/2026 13:11

'What do you think should happen about asylum seekers with health issues'

What is wrong with some posters. They should get healthcare by a designated Dr not one moonlighting whilst his own patients are waiting.

Vivivoom · 17/01/2026 13:12

You keep saying that you want people to give suggestions to deal with the issue but I’m not clear what the issue you have is? That asylum seekers are entitled to healthcare? Or that you have to wait 6-8 weeks for an appointment? If it’s the first, then I don’t see this as an issue. Everyone should har basic healthcare regardless of their immigration status. I care for children with a chronic condition, several of who are asylum seekers, and they would all die within a few weeks without healthcare. I would question anyone’s morals that could argue they should not be entitled to care. If your issue is with the wait for GP appointments then you need to look closer to home at what our governments have done to destroy the NHS not at asylum seekers.

You should move to Trump America. Sounds like you'd be happier there.

Because he's working "on the side" during his NHS hours. There were adverts for GP's to do "shifts" at asylum hotels on VERY good money outside the NHS. He should not have been "moonlighting" when he should have been working during his NHS hours.

How do you know it was his NHS hours???? Most if not all GPs now only work 3-4 days a week because the pressure of making the right decision and dealing with all the admin is lot and 5 x 12 hour days leads to burn out!!!!

May be works halfday at the surgery that day and does half day there.

Please use critical thinking!!! its very lacking in the reform lot

Ask mn admin

Utterly pointless, they're also working from whatever you make up about what happened even if you did contact them.

He was late. Everyone is delayed because this Dr with poor time management has his finger in too many pies.

Elderly patients with health problems will suffer because of idiots like him.

Really @taxguru? I never knew this.

no not really!!!

I would rather the NHS spent it's entire resources on desperate needy people, than bigoted racists. HTH.

They’re not moonlighting. Asylum seekers have the same entitlement to primary care as everyone

MirrorMirror1247 · 17/01/2026 11:29

Asylum seekers need healthcare too. Or would you prefer they were left to suffer?

No I would prefer that they didn’t come here in the first place

i suspect many of them are economic migrants and it is impacting on people who live here

That is saying more about the people who have come on here and have insulted many things about me as opposed to myself. They seem to be the ones feeling the " rage".

You've literally started a thread because you are angry that your GP was late as he had the audacity to treat asylum seekers. Pretty sure that guy who fell of his ladder hanging a St George's flag was also given NHS care. Just because others find your views abhorrent, you're not being insulted, merely challenged.

ColourThief · 17/01/2026 13:15

ItsameLuigi · 17/01/2026 11:22

6-7 weeks? Wth, I call my Drs in the morning and I'm seen the same day or can book online and be seen within 48 hours. Not every issue you have is because of immigration. A lot of it will actually be from the many years of austerity thanks to the Tory government. 🫠

Shhh. Don't tell them that!
You'll have them questioning everything The Daily Mail tells them!

Jokes aside, I’m afraid some people are just too far gone with regards to this sort of stuff.
They're convinced the country is ruined purely because of immigrants and welfare claimants.

It’s depressing to see just how willingly some people lap up that Kool Aid.

The majority of British people I know, don’t agree. It’s the circle you mix in, I’m afraid.

💩 give over. She's just being honest.

Harrumphhhh · 17/01/2026 13:16

This sounds like a great example of NHS efficiency to me. One doctor, one visit, lots of issues seen to. Maybe it’s a model we could roll out in other areas.

thepariscrimefiles · 17/01/2026 13:16

doodiethewonderdog · 17/01/2026 11:23

The question is why is an NHS doctor out doing home visits at this place when NHS funds are not supposed to be used?

Maybe he is seeing a lot of patients at the same time. Maybe these patients need to be kept in isolation if they are suffering from an infectious illness. You would no doubt complain bitterly and vocally if the waiting room at your surgery was filled with asylum seekers.

Grammarninja · 17/01/2026 13:16

It's more time effective for the doctor to go there every now and again. Prisoners and nursing home patients get the same deal. Stop comparing. Do you really think asylum seekers are enjoying a better, more privileged life than you?!

poetryandwine · 17/01/2026 13:17

OP,

Recent replies are moving away from the fact that everyone resident in the UK has the legal right to register with a GP, regardless of immigration status. This includes asylum seekers, refused asylum seekers and other irregular immigrants, and the homeless.

GP services are classified as primary health care and free to all. In theory, this even includes tourists.

This information is readily available at gov.uk, nhs.uk and the websites of many charities. If you ask google, the AI summary at the top is correct.

Here’s some advice for you.

whenever these irrational thoughts occur, remember how lucky you are not to be in the desperate situation of an asylum seeker. Repeat dose as needed.
HTH
