My doctor was late to my appointment because he had been at the local country hotel full of asylum seekers...

When was the last time you had a home visit? Is this a way of managing the " problem" by them taking clinics there? Is it a way of hiding this issue? I understood they did not have access to the NHS yet I see massive bags of medicine labelled for this hotel too at the dispensary. We wait about 6-7 weeks for a routine appointment.

He was late. Everyone is delayed because this Dr with poor time management has his finger in too many pies.

Elderly patients with health problems will suffer because of idiots like him.

And what did she suffer? I’ve often been seen late by my GP. The reason for that is I assume that person is seeing a clinical need greater than mine or that person needs more time.

GPs are largely self employed. OP doesn’t get to huff and say “you’re late”. She possibly gets to pay for a GP who will be on time if it really matters.

What harm has she actually suffered? Sone sort of dent to her ego? Certainly reads like it

Here’s some advice for you.

whenever these irrational thoughts occur, remember how lucky you are not to be in the desperate situation of an asylum seeker. Repeat dose as needed.
HTH

You just sound so gullible. It’s literally in your face. That book, The emperor’s new clothes always springs to mind on these threads.

dudsville · 17/01/2026 13:19

The problem with your op is that it's anecdotal. Post evidence, actual stats, that's the basis for a good discussion, but "my elderly neighbour died because people snuck in here by boat and stole his Healthcare" isn't evidence on its own.

shuggles · 17/01/2026 13:19

@doodiethewonderdog The hotel that the doctor attended houses a lot of doctors and engineers.

They need to be kept healthy so they can continue to work and make the wealthy people in Britain even more wealthy.

Yeah they're stealing all our jobs too 🙄

Pop over to a news channel, then come back and tell me you'd like to live in Iran.

Just in case it’s not been mentioned it may be best to prevent the spread of TB.
if a person with TB came to the office it would mean lots of vulnerable people exposed and staff needing medication and follow up.
I bet it’s an infectious disease thing.

Calls to the GP are triaged. The most urgent get seen first, then in turn. Someone was in greater need than you. Asylum seekers are people too - unless you don’t view them that way, which says more about you than anything else. We are only in our 50s, but we had no trouble getting a home visit when my DH was very ill with e.coli and in danger of passing out from dehydration. Home visits are now very rare because GPs can help you better in the surgery where they have access to all their equipment, testing facilities and medications. You are looking in the wrong direction for the cause of what you perceive as poor service. Try to open your mind a little more.

Indeed. There's also a massive generalisation these days - propagated by the media - that "6-7 week waits for a GP appointment" is the norm everywhere. We can get a GP appointment the same day if we show up in person at 8.30am, next day if we complete an online form or call; if the issue reported is deemed urgent, the call or online form will result in a same day appointment.

But even people who don't have a racist axe to grind believe the generalisation. A friend who lives a long way from me has been complaining "You can't get to see a GP here" for 2 years - and so hasn't bothered trying. She's now in crippling pain from severe osteoporosis and can barely walk, so I instructed her to complete the online form, giving as much information as possible. She did it Monday afternoon - they rang and gave her an appointment the next day.

The question is why is an NHS doctor out doing home visits at this place when NHS funds are not supposed to be used?

I should imagine part of it will be to avoid the locals with pitchforks if the people from "this place" turn up at the surgery in person.

Naming no names of course

doodiethewonderdog · 17/01/2026 13:02

Ask MN admin.

Why was a MN moderator in the surgery as well?

Because people like you would complain to the press if these ‘people’ were sitting in the waiting room at your GPs surgery.
The GP is doing you a favour by ensuring you don’t catch rickets, lice or leprosy whilst waiting for your blood pressure check up with the practice nurse 👍🏻

whatistheworld · 17/01/2026 13:13

How do you know it was his NHS hours???? Most if not all GPs now only work 3-4 days a week because the pressure of making the right decision and dealing with all the admin is lot and 5 x 12 hour days leads to burn out!!!!

May be works halfday at the surgery that day and does half day there.

Please use critical thinking!!! its very lacking in the reform lot

I was about to come on and say the same. People assuming thd doctor is moonlighting with no evidence l.

No Op I'm not because I'm currently in Malaysia enjoying their culture and the people, mainly I suppose because I'm not a xenophobic racist and so I feel happy experiencing different cultures and meeting people. Try it, you might learn something . . . but then again . . .

WhyIsThereSoMuchWashingAllTheTime · 17/01/2026 13:24

I agree with you OP. I can't even get a GP appointment at all. Days of calling at 8am and then just give up. Ignore the posters calling you racist. It is not racist to expect a country to put it's own citizens before those they take in from abroad.

I actually watched a podcast with a fairly serious, well informed journalist who was discussing asylum seekers. She said at first she thought they must be the brightest, most motivated men who after all managed to get themselves here. Thus the expectation that they would be go getters and hard working. However after she investigated she found quite the opposite and the people were getting brought here by crime organisations. Her theory actually was it was a russian attack on the country. I can't remember how she worded it and I will try and find the podcast but it actually made me see the men entering this country even more fearfully. Not only are they been given resources we don't have, raping our women etc, it is actually more sinister than that.
It did kind of make sense. After all look at the unrest it has caused.

As lots of us have said an attack on the country is already happening by Russia. Boats in our waters, interfering with underwater cabling and perhaps now this.
Meanwhile we have our goofy goverment bumbling about.

You make a good point but you can't "catch" rickets from another person!

One of them comes to document all my doctor's appointments. You should sign up for premium. It's a nice service.

OP, YABVVVVU

Murriams · 17/01/2026 13:25

It may well be considerably more efficient for one GP to go and see multiple people at once rather than using lots of single appointments. Particularly if translation services maybe required.
Ultimately asylum seekers have a right to health care and the GP presumably decides the best way to deliver this.

It is also quite possible that the GP was at the hotel under the auspices of the NHS.

Somerwerovertherainbow · 17/01/2026 13:25

OP keeps insisting this can’t be discussed properly and they’re not allowed to raise this issue blah blah.

However, all the reasonable debate has come from other posters and OP has disregarded the majority of these posts instead of properly engaging with these points. Ridiculous.

Silverbirchleaf · 17/01/2026 13:26

Surely no different to NHS doctors doing private work? My dh has private healthcare through his company. He has access to a GP (via phone) for twenty four hours, everyday, if he needed one. I imagine several of these doctors are also NHS doctors.

wheelygoodfun · 17/01/2026 13:27

Why do you think the hotel has security in the first place if there are people like you posting all over the Internet that it's an asylum hotel.

Take it you've never been in an asylum hotel either. It definitely isnt 4 star luxury with the chef cooking meals off an a la carte menu. Think bunk beds in rooms originally intended for single people, mass catering using the cheapest possible ingredients. All asylum seeker food is meant to meet religious and cultural dietary needs. In practice this means that as long as the chicken nuggets are halal then thats sorted. Ever fancied chicken nuggets and chips at every meal for weeks on end?

And as for the GP thing, its actually quicker, easier, safer and more efficient if a GP does a 'ward round' in a hotel then getting people to traipse to the nearest surgery endlessly. Places like care homes also do this, its not just limited to asylum seekers.

I've heard they're also pissing in a reservoirs and mooning in restaurant windows whilst people are having their bottomless brunches.

I got that from a fairly serious, well informed journalist

All the GP appointments my mum and gran have are home visits. Hope that helps.
