My doctor was late to my appointment because he had been at the local country hotel full of asylum seekers...

When was the last time you had a home visit? Is this a way of managing the " problem" by them taking clinics there? Is it a way of hiding this issue? I understood they did not have access to the NHS yet I see massive bags of medicine labelled for this hotel too at the dispensary. We wait about 6-7 weeks for a routine appointment.

Yea everything that's wrong with this country is down to asylum seekers 🙄

Anonanonanonagain · 17/01/2026 11:01

What is the question or is it just you wanted to make a racist rant?

CapybarasAreJustGuineaBigs · 17/01/2026 11:01

Oh aye Hmm

BitOutOfPractice · 17/01/2026 11:02

This is just a goady thread that will descend into a bunfight within the first page.

doodiethewonderdog · 17/01/2026 11:21

It's sad that this cannot be discussed. It's not goady. It's a matter of fact for some people. What is Labour's solution? To build new homes for these men. How do people on council waiting lists feel about this. We ARE allowed to raise these issues.

6-7 weeks? Wth, I call my Drs in the morning and I'm seen the same day or can book online and be seen within 48 hours. Not every issue you have is because of immigration. A lot of it will actually be from the many years of austerity thanks to the Tory government. 🫠

The question is why is an NHS doctor out doing home visits at this place when NHS funds are not supposed to be used?

So what have you done about the 6-7 week wait, clearly been an issue for sometime. Eg contacted the practice manager, local trust, local councillor/MP?

That's great for you. If it is an urgent visit then there is a system to deal with it but routine appointments are 6-7 weeks.

But you still got to see the doctor, so I don’t understand your issue. Doctors run late for loads zof reasons

Branleuse · 17/01/2026 11:25

Haven't you got a roundabout to paint?

Here’s some advice for you.

whenever these irrational thoughts occur, remember how lucky you are not to be in the desperate situation of an asylum seeker. Repeat dose as needed.

Because a human being is poorly

ItsPronouncedThroatwobblerMangrove · 17/01/2026 11:26

Calls to the GP are triaged. The most urgent get seen first, then in turn. Someone was in greater need than you. Asylum seekers are people too - unless you don’t view them that way, which says more about you than anything else. We are only in our 50s, but we had no trouble getting a home visit when my DH was very ill with e.coli and in danger of passing out from dehydration. Home visits are now very rare because GPs can help you better in the surgery where they have access to all their equipment, testing facilities and medications. You are looking in the wrong direction for the cause of what you perceive as poor service. Try to open your mind a little more.

ohfook · 17/01/2026 11:27

I wonder if it’s because asylum seekers who are in a hotel that provides food get a very small amount for expenses- around £8 if my memory serves me right. One bus fair to the doctors would wipe that out in my area so maybe the doctors do a clinic there once a month or something to mitigate that. Or maybe they were doing vaccinations on mass? Or maybe they were with someone who was very ill and it took longer than they thought. When my parent was dying, the doctor did come to the house.

Indianajet · 17/01/2026 11:27

Have some compassion for those worse off than you - thankfully your doctor does.

DustyMaiden · 17/01/2026 11:27

Thank god you survived

freshstartere · 17/01/2026 11:28

To be fair, if there are a large number of people coming into our country - whether it's right or wrong doesn't matter - the fact that they come from countries where vaccinations and health care are sub standard inclines me to feel I'm fine with them being given access to healthcare from a public health view point. Why would we want diseases spreading amongst us.
Separately they are still people and can't be condemned to suffer poor health because of politics.
Also, if conditions like high blood pressure are treated and caught before they turn into heart attacks and strokes then surely that's more cost effective for the nhs anyway.
It's a separate issue to not being able to get a GP appointment for 6 weeks.

JustMyView13 · 17/01/2026 11:28

How did you know that’s where they are? The biggest issue here is your Dr appears to have no regard for patient confidentiality.
That, or this is an entirely made up story.

What makes you think that asylum seekers aren't entitled to NHS care?

doodiethewonderdog · 17/01/2026 11:29

You can all come on with your personal attacks and insinuating you are a bigger person but there needs to be a longer term plan than this. What would you all suggest happens to these men in the long term ?

Asylum seekers need healthcare too. Or would you prefer they were left to suffer?
