I have recently had a huge life changing bereavement (loss of my daughter - I have posted about this on other threads).

The point of this thread is something quite superficial. I have barely eaten for 3 months and have lost lots of weight.

I never had much of a sweet tooth, but think I might fancy some really delicious chocolates and my wonderful friend has offered to buy me some and, on this occasion, cost is not really material.

I like milk and dark chocolate (not white), cream and truffle and ganache. I quite like a crispy coating. And fruit flavours. Do not want alcohol in them. So no champagne truffles. I like peppermint. And marzipan. And coconut. I like nuts ordinarily, but am struggling to swallow food (only eating soup) so probably best to avoid nuts at the moment.

I once had some Leonidas chocolates that I liked. My friend suggested Godiva or Audreys. Neither of us have ever had those.

Can anyone help me please with a suggestion for some really lovely chocolates that are readily available for the UK and that might restore a bit of my appetite.

Thank you in advance.

Well good morning. DD2 and I spent a nice half hour choosing 20 chocolates from Kennedys. The fact that we could choose our own, individually, and have just one of each made it an attractive option.

i enjoyed this thread and reading the recommendations. I shall likely try some of the other ones once these are gone!

Thanks to all.

Excellent choice. Enjoy!

so very sorry for your loss.

you need Laderach chocolate - I discovered it at Christmas after it was given to me as a gift and it is delicious beyond words. Great online delivery service too

Agree with Läderach. I would go for a variety option as they have so many fabulous chocolate styles and flavours. They do mini bars like this: https://laderach.com/uk-en/10104747-frischschoggi-boat-big

But you’re bound to find something you like here: https://laderach.com/uk-en/pralines-truffes?p=2

Whenever I pass a shop and have a minute, I pop in for 1-2 truffles, the staff is so nice and it’s such a treat.

FrischSchoggi boat big

Our FrischSchoggi Boats make the perfect gift - whether as a small token of appreciation for friends, a souvenir, or a present for hosts. Lovingly wrapped and sealed with a bow, these 13 fine pieces are just waiting to be unpacked. A little hint: enjoy...

Oh those Lauden ones look beautiful.

They really are, and they come in flat tins so you don't need to eat them too quickly if it's a struggle. They're super crisp, and the fruity ones really are fruity.

I’m so sorry to read about your Dd.

I’m five years down the same road after my losing mine to suicide during covid.

I love chocolate too and these days take any small pleasure I can which includes chocolate, wine and long country walks with an audio book. Also support from fellow bereaved parents at the wonderful charity TCF.

Sending you strength and hugs xx

So sorry for your loss. I haven’t read all the responses but Neuhaus is my favourite. I think the quality is better than Godiva. Sometimes I go to London and buy different types and Neuhaus always wins. I think Leonidas is good too. The Belgian chocolates are much better than Swiss or British, in my humble opinion. La Maison du Chocolate and Pierre Marcolini are good to try too.

I’m so sorry to hear about your dd. I have been in your position and couldn’t think of a better reason to treat yourself to some delicious chocolates. It’s been 7 years since my dd died.

I love m&s dark chocolate truffles. There is a good chocolate shop local to us, blowing dandelion. Not sure if they deliver, but if not, from one bereaved mum to another, I would be happy to post you some. Please send me a PM if so.

So sorry for your loss.

1683 Chocolate Place Knowle Solihull. They have a website and you can order online. Lots of lovely flavours and looks amazing and tastes as good as they look.
I have been buying them for a few years for birthdays and celebrations.

The Belgians do make superb chocolate, but their frites are even better. I like Neuhaus, but the plain chocolate bias of Pierre Marcolini is my preference. And I like the dainty size of Marcolini chocolates.

I think if I just had one single chocolate, I’d go for Pierre Marcolini but if I were buying a box it would be Neuhaus - I feel like there’s more variety to them.

Oh I remember those, you got a big box, the £24 one, for about £6, they would then send a full price box every month but you could opt out after the £6 box, all you needed were a lot of email addresses! I still like Hotel Chocolat, I've gone through a box recently.

Haha really! Yeah I like it too!

The ordering is almost as much fun as the eating ( but not quite!)
Hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
