I have recently had a huge life changing bereavement (loss of my daughter - I have posted about this on other threads).

The point of this thread is something quite superficial. I have barely eaten for 3 months and have lost lots of weight.

I never had much of a sweet tooth, but think I might fancy some really delicious chocolates and my wonderful friend has offered to buy me some and, on this occasion, cost is not really material.

I like milk and dark chocolate (not white), cream and truffle and ganache. I quite like a crispy coating. And fruit flavours. Do not want alcohol in them. So no champagne truffles. I like peppermint. And marzipan. And coconut. I like nuts ordinarily, but am struggling to swallow food (only eating soup) so probably best to avoid nuts at the moment.

I once had some Leonidas chocolates that I liked. My friend suggested Godiva or Audreys. Neither of us have ever had those.

Can anyone help me please with a suggestion for some really lovely chocolates that are readily available for the UK and that might restore a bit of my appetite.

Thank you in advance.

Aah, so sorry op, must be so very difficult, these are my favourite, you can choose which ones to your taste https://the-chocolate-factory-thornton-dale.myshopify.com/collections/online-shop, a lovely little shop if you're ever in Thornton le Dale, hope you find some you like.

Relaxd · 16/01/2026 16:59

Neuhaus then Godiva.

NoCowardSoulisMine · 16/01/2026 17:01

So sorry for your loss. Charbonnel & Walker chocolates are wonderful; their truffles are delicious. Ditto Fortnum's. I think Audrey's make chocolates for Fortnum's, and so if you order direct you can make up your own box of favourites.

CarefullyCuratedFurniture · 16/01/2026 17:02

All my favourite chocolate brands have been mentioned. I just wanted to say that im so sorry for your loss. Please be kind to yourself.

FcukBreastCancer · 16/01/2026 17:03

I like hotel chocolat. Lots of nutty ones.

tipsyraven · 16/01/2026 17:04

I really love Alain Ducasse chocolates. Their truffles are to die for but they only do them at Christmas.

Spann · 16/01/2026 17:04

Sorry for your loss. My absolute favourite chocolates are from Cocoa Black in Peebles by Ruth Hinks, and have ordered boxes for special treat gifts and if I’m in the area I treat myself to a single chocolate (or 3).

TheatreTheatre · 16/01/2026 17:05

Love, strength and chocolate to you, OP.

Shouldbeworkingnotreadingtalk · 16/01/2026 17:07

Audrey’s. Proper handmade in Hove for at least 100 years. And I am so sorry for your loss.

FinallyHere · 16/01/2026 17:08

I’m very sorry for your loss.

my absolute favourite chocolates are https://www.artisanduchocolat.com/

They actually make their own chocolate. So many others claiming to make chocolate just buy in the basic and then add their own flavours. These people buy cocoa beans and the flavourings eg mint as actual mint leaves. I’ve toured their factory and can vouch for this.

They also supply M&S, the packaging is recognisably theirs so you might try some from M&S. Their own flavours are really spectacular, just unwrapping the box makes me feel very spoiled.

They are a love 'em or hate' em choice, but I was brought up with Thornton's Continental (not Classics) and still love them lots.

NewYearNewMee · 16/01/2026 17:11

I’m really sorry to read that OP.

I adore Laderach - the mixed chocolates are lovely, as are the slabs. Charbonnel et Walker do delicious truffles (the peppermint bark are a personal favourite). If you’d prefer bars then the Chocolate Smiths (small business) are fab but can be tricky to order around the drop schedule.

Ritaskitchen · 16/01/2026 17:12

Laderach. They are excellent

Actually you can get their chocolates online all year now. I had forgotten about them and can also confirm their truffles are delicious. Their orangettes are pretty good too.

LighthouseLED · 16/01/2026 17:19

I like Friars of Keswick or Leonidas.

I wasn’t impressed by Audrey’s, although I know they’re popular on here so it’s probably just me!

Elektra1 · 16/01/2026 17:29

Order from Be Chocolat in Brighton. Incredible quality.

I’m very sorry for your tragic loss.

mamaduckbone · 16/01/2026 17:30

So sorry for your loss.
i had the most incredible box of chocolates from Rococo chocolates once. They were quite unusual flavours but completely delicious.

Yes you can but not the truffles. Only at Christmas. I’m lucky enough to have a store near me and it is my Christmas treat to myself.

ErlingHaalandsManBun · 16/01/2026 17:37

So very sorry for your devastating loss. I have no words.

Hotel Chocolat all day long. I have tried SO many boxes of mixed chocs and these are by far the best IMO. There is lots of variation on their website and you can chose a box (large or smaller) that suits your tastes. Delicious.

FcukBreastCancer · 16/01/2026 17:03

I like hotel chocolat. Lots of nutty ones.

This just shows how personal it is. I can't bear hotel Chocolat.
OP, my thoughts are with you.
Like a pp I was given a Leonidas chocolate as a treat over 50 years ago & I remember it as being wonderful.
Personally I would look for a local artisan maker who can deliver & you can choose your mix.

CastleCrasher · 16/01/2026 17:42

So sorry for your loss. Id also recommended the Highland Chocolatier - they are exceptionally good!

24Dogcuddler · 16/01/2026 17:56

I’m so very sorry for your loss OP. Absolutely understand, we lost our DD in 2020.
Some good suggestions on here. Someone bought me a Hotel Chocolat sleekster when our daughter was ill.
My appetite is still pretty poor. Have you tried protein shakes and maybe chocolate covered Kendal mint cake for calories and energy.
You could also try some patches for immunity/ sleep/ mood if struggling to swallow.
Sending a virtual hug to you and your family.

LittleArithmetics · 16/01/2026 18:01

I like Neuhaus.

CapybarasAreJustGuineaBigs · 16/01/2026 18:03

Shokoladi Malvern!! She actually makes the chocolate herself from cocoa beans and the flavours are out of this world 😍
