Can I wear this Satin Dress to a Wedding. Husband says no. I feel stunning in it, and think it is ok to wear.

Opinion needed. I got gifted this dress for Christmas it's a bit tight as it is my pre baby size, but it somehow makes me look smaller than I am.

It is cinched on my waist and then flows into a fitted skirt. I feel confident in it. I feel like me again. I have been desperate to wear it since I got it but we never go out.

It's my husband's best friend's wedding in February. He is one of the best men. I am not in the wedding so I wont be in any of the pictures or anything like that.

Husband isn't happy about me wearing it. Is it reasonable to wear it? I never go out and I think we will be having another baby by the end of the year so I wont get another chance to wear this beautiful dress. I also dont want to go out and buy another dress when I have been gifted this one and it is sitting in my wardrobe.

It is white at the bottom but clearly with the black lace top it is not a wedding dress. Be honest please.

ADEL

Classic. Commanding. Effortless. The ADEL Lace and Satin Halter Gown is an ode to contrast. Delicate lace meets liquid satin in a silhouette that celebrates form. A plunging halter neckline frames the décolletage, its stretchy lace bodice tied effortle...

Is this some kind of stealth advert for this brand that nobody has ever heard of? They have a new instagram account, 1 follower on Facebook and their only post is advertising this exact dress

Edited

And couldn’t find anything on trust pilot either.

Rocknrollstar · 16/01/2026 08:10

My husband rarely comments on clothing but if he says ‘no’ he is always right as is your husband. This dress is lovely but not for a wedding.

TheBlueKoala · 16/01/2026 08:11

Am I the only one who thinks the dress is hideous? And that you would have to be a model in order to wear it?

Third time the Op has posted this dress. Three weeks ago it didn’t fit. She must really love it.

Daisywhatsyouranswer · 16/01/2026 08:14

You can’t wear that to a wedding, it is totally inappropriate, and you won’t feel good knowing everyone is side eying you thinking god that woman’s clueless.

find another reason to wear it, but don’t put your need to wear it over occasion appropriateness. It’s no more appropriate than wearing it to parents night.

travailtotravel · 16/01/2026 08:15

He needs to take you on a hot dare somewhere so you wear it with swagger and get to feel amazing. That place isn't a wedding, sorry!

EDIT: I dont know why it matters who gave it to me but my MIL gave it to me. She gets me a dress every year for Christmas usually from really beautiful independent brands that I could never afford for myself. Last year was tough for me having a baby I lost my confidence, so she said it was to make me feel good. It does make me feel like me again, which I havent in so long.

EDIT: We did go out pre-baby. But we have a little one now and I had some issues with the baby that I feel too scared to leave her alone with anyone else yet. So the wedding is the only time I see us leaving the baby briefly this year (it's a no kids wedding and he is the best man so we have to go to this one).

None of this makes it acceptable to wear that dress to a wedding though…

I also think it will look even less appropriate with a jacket or blazer etc - the top half will be covered so then it will literally look like you’re wearing a white, satin, floor length dress…. Just like a bride.

Absolutely.

Kudos for tricking Mumsnet admin though, very clever way of promoting a new website.

ThatJadeLion · 16/01/2026 08:17

Nah, not buying this is real. No one gifts a dress like that for no occasion. 8/10.

CatsSleepFatandWalkThin · 16/01/2026 08:17

No. I think it horrible, and also very unsuitable. And freezing.

Oh, I hope so.

Then I will be free to say what a tacky fucking pug-ugly shitshow of a dress. Cheap materials, cheap cut. Ugh.

BellaTrixLeStrange1 · 16/01/2026 08:19

The dress is gorgeous, but personally I wouldn’t consider it suitable for someone else’s wedding.

Womaninhouse17 · 16/01/2026 08:19

I don't think it would be fair on the bride because it's such a striking dress and would get too much attention. And if I wore it, I'd have to add a vest and thick cardigan which would spoil the look!

wishingonastar101 · 16/01/2026 08:19

It's very sexy - a bit like lingerie.
Not wedding unless you really hate the bride.

Bluebluesummer · 16/01/2026 08:19

No too white, far too dressy you’d look like a a BM.

No, I think it's awful and very cheaply made. I think black on top and white at the bottom always looks terrible though.

Elektra1 · 16/01/2026 08:20

That dress is unsuitable for a guest attending someone else’s wedding

Pinkbluegreeb · 16/01/2026 08:21

No.

Ukefluke · 16/01/2026 08:21

Satin isnt forgiving unless you are built like a straw. Its even managingvto give the model a bit of a tum.

Hillary17 · 16/01/2026 08:22

Absolutely not. It isn’t really about how it makes you feel, it’s someone else’s wedding day.

Kingscallops · 16/01/2026 08:22

Except the wedding is not about you and how stunning you feel in it. Great advert but the dress is impractical and unappealing to a larger audience.

Gahr · 16/01/2026 08:22

It's a no, I'm afraid. It's a beautiful dress and not 'too white' (people on here make too much fuss about that IMO) It is just too revealing. Save it for date night. Get your husband to take you out somewhere special on Valentine's night.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 16/01/2026 08:23

It’s long, white, revealing, sexy and attention grabbing evening wear. Not suitable for a wedding, unless …

Is the wedding in a Vegas nightclub?

threescoops · 16/01/2026 08:25

Fascinated now. What sort of culture is this wedding, is it perhaps one where other guests dress like this rather than the more traditional wedding we are assuming? Who’d wear a glamorous bareback satin and lace black and white nightgown to a February wedding, is it in England? Struggling to imagine a world in which a woman gives her post partum stay at home daughter in law a very sexy hard to wear too small garment for Christmas, I used to get plants or books. I’d be wondering what she is trying to say! Families certainly are all very different

loislovesstewie · 16/01/2026 08:25

Absolutely hideous. And unsuitable. Sorry.
