Can I wear this Satin Dress to a Wedding. Husband says no. I feel stunning in it, and think it is ok to wear.

Opinion needed. I got gifted this dress for Christmas it's a bit tight as it is my pre baby size, but it somehow makes me look smaller than I am.

It is cinched on my waist and then flows into a fitted skirt. I feel confident in it. I feel like me again. I have been desperate to wear it since I got it but we never go out.

It's my husband's best friend's wedding in February. He is one of the best men. I am not in the wedding so I wont be in any of the pictures or anything like that.

Husband isn't happy about me wearing it. Is it reasonable to wear it? I never go out and I think we will be having another baby by the end of the year so I wont get another chance to wear this beautiful dress. I also dont want to go out and buy another dress when I have been gifted this one and it is sitting in my wardrobe.

It is white at the bottom but clearly with the black lace top it is not a wedding dress. Be honest please.

ADEL

Classic. Commanding. Effortless. The ADEL Lace and Satin Halter Gown is an ode to contrast. Delicate lace meets liquid satin in a silhouette that celebrates form. A plunging halter neckline frames the décolletage, its stretchy lace bodice tied effortle...

Maybe if you’re going to a big fat gypsy wedding 🤔
The colour is the absolute least of the problems presented by this item for a wedding. The whiteness would trouble me far less than the tacky and inappropriate over exposure of flesh.

Wingingit73 · 18/01/2026 08:02

No. Its too white and too revealing for a wedding. Buy it. Wear it somewhere else.

FunkySoulMedina · 18/01/2026 08:45

Can you ask the bride if she thinks it is acceptable? Then take it from there? If it is a no, then definitely arrange another night out for you and hubby, maybe help with baby number 2 🤣
Stunning dress, and great taste MIL!

Well I think it would be actually fabulous to wear to a sun destination wedding being honest 🤷🏻‍♀️.
However I’m guessing a UK wedding in February ? , in which case no not suitable , too bare altogether, just doesn’t look appropriate then ..

You should def book a fancy City Cocktail bar with your husband some night & wear that OP , especially when you know you look Fab in it 🙌 💃🏽 😊

Lifelover16 · 18/01/2026 10:29

If it’s an evening black tie/ cocktail dress wedding then perhaps.
If it’s a day time wedding then a definite no from me.

I work in the wedding industry and think YES wear the glam dress to the glam wedding. You're not in a country church. You will look stunning! Mnetters are always weird about wedding attire etiquette IMHO, forgetting that the industry has changed soo much and the old rules simply don't apply to a lot of today's weddings.

It’s not just the wedding attire etiquette. For the cost, it’s got to be made from cheap fabric and poorly finished; the “satin” skirt will look as crumpled as an old tea towel before the wearer gets out of the car. Not to mention the static cling from synthetic fabric.

The bride is extremely glamorous. She wore a long cut out dress to my wedding, it was light yellow. It is not a church wedding either. Many of the guests will be wearing dresses like this to the wedding as she is very glamorous and works in social media so her friends are also glamorous. I have been to weddings where women have worn black and white before. Someone wore a white dress to my wedding, I did not mind. I was asking whether the white skirt is ok which was the only issue my husband had with it, clearly it is not.

Doesn't matter if she wore a glittery tiara and a long train this is not an appropriate dress for a wedding. You will come across as attention seeking and cringe. Also satin is an extremely unforgivable fabric that tends to get worse the longer you wear it.

thisoldcity · 18/01/2026 10:58

If you are so sure about this and confident everyone is going to be in similar outfits, then wear it! Please report back and tell us how it went...

If other guests are dressed similarly, I hardly think OP will be singled out as 'attention seeking and cringe'.

ErinBell01 · 17/01/2026 20:59

I'm not being 'unpleasant'! It's nothing to do with her size, the design emphasises the hips! Have you looked at the pictures? Maybe OP is a size 14 with small hips, in whch case it would be ok.

I thought your post was unpleasant. The reason being that you seemed to be assuming OP had huge hips based on no information (other than perhaps you think someone wearing size 14 is automatically big?) 🤔

What is the point of asking opinions since you seem so determined to wear this dress you’re making excuses as to why it’s suitable? If you wear it it’s highly likely people will judge you but hey, go ahead.

LevitateStreet · 16/01/2026 11:36

I think there is definitely quite a lot of middle ground between baggy shroud and backless plunge dress. It's not a dress that's suitable to wear into church, both on the grounds that it is too revealing to wear in any religious building and because the OP would actually freeze to death in February. If the wedding isn't in church and is a black-tie, glitzy evening do then it would seem much more fitting (if it does in fact fit and isn't three sizes to small as suggested elsewhere on the thread?). Fashion does have a lot of rules, and knowing what to wear to what kind of occasion is part of it.

The thing about rules though, is that people are at liberty to choose to break them. And there's a lot of subjectivity to so-called rules. If there wasn't then we'd all be walking round still wearing what we wore in the 1950s, or even earlier. Designers innovate and break rules all the time, that's how fashion evolves, so why shouldn't we mere mortals move with the times as well? OP says others attending will be dressed similarly, so I don't even think a rule is being broken here, more a case of conventions being challenged.

No actually on the right body , it’s sexy not tacky !
I’m guessing OP has exactly that or she wouldn’t say it makes her feel confident .

Wearing something extremetly revealing with the intention of looking sexy at a wedding is the very definition of tacky.

That dress is not wedding appropriate.

IngridBurger · 18/01/2026 16:13

Tacky is in the eye of the beholder surely?

You can wear something revealing that’s stylish , not tacky .
look at all the Celebs ! . OPS dress is not tacky .

It's tacky to wear it to a wedding. It's not tacky to wear to a red carpet, black tie event, or a gala dinner dance. Surely you can understand that simple logic?

In just the same way as it would be tacky to wear that to a funeral. Or a job interview for a role as a primary school teacher or a bank manager. Or wearing it to do the supermarket shopping at 10 am or walk the dog in the woods. It's tacky to not understand how to dress appropriately for different occasions, thinking only about looking sexy, as if that's always the most important thing.

Sexy all the way baby !!!!! 😂 😂 .

ThatMiddleClassFood · 18/01/2026 17:02

I'd have been absolutely fine if you wore this too my wedding, it's very obviously not a wedding dress. Maybe a little jacket or shrug for the day and take it off at night.

If you know the bride well message her and ask her.

Member869894 · 18/01/2026 17:06

Who in their right mind would wear a long white satin skirt to a wedding?? You're not the bride!!

Can I wear this Satin Dress to a Wedding. Husband says no. I feel stunning in it, and think it is ok to wear.
Carycach4 · 18/01/2026 18:03

No. It's like a swimsuit and a bridal gown had a baby!
EDITED to say It's in the store's bridal section FFS. Does that not provideyou with a clue

Ah now come on , how are either of those outfits in the bridal wear !!!!

Elprincesso · 18/01/2026 21:10

Definitely NOT wedding guest etiquette, showing too much/too glam... BUT, not sure if anyone else has mentioned it, it's Definitely Valentines Day material, book a babysitter, book a nice restaurant & you may just get another baby before Christmas!! 😊

Well I certainly don't assume anyone that's a size 14 has huge hips! I'm a size 16 but have not much in the hip department. People come in all shapes, whether they're a size 12 or 18 or whatever. But I don't think anyone can disagree that the dress emphasises the hips, which is why I made my warning. If OP doesn't need to worry about that then she can just ignore what I said.
