Can I wear this Satin Dress to a Wedding. Husband says no. I feel stunning in it, and think it is ok to wear.

Opinion needed. I got gifted this dress for Christmas it's a bit tight as it is my pre baby size, but it somehow makes me look smaller than I am.

It is cinched on my waist and then flows into a fitted skirt. I feel confident in it. I feel like me again. I have been desperate to wear it since I got it but we never go out.

It's my husband's best friend's wedding in February. He is one of the best men. I am not in the wedding so I wont be in any of the pictures or anything like that.

Husband isn't happy about me wearing it. Is it reasonable to wear it? I never go out and I think we will be having another baby by the end of the year so I wont get another chance to wear this beautiful dress. I also dont want to go out and buy another dress when I have been gifted this one and it is sitting in my wardrobe.

It is white at the bottom but clearly with the black lace top it is not a wedding dress. Be honest please.

ADEL

Classic. Commanding. Effortless. The ADEL Lace and Satin Halter Gown is an ode to contrast. Delicate lace meets liquid satin in a silhouette that celebrates form. A plunging halter neckline frames the décolletage, its stretchy lace bodice tied effortle...

Different colour and a jacket.

Nancylancy · 16/01/2026 07:59

I was torn when I saw the pic - I have seen many people where black and white dresses for weddings. But if the top was white it could be a wedding dress itself, so I wouldn't. It does look too much like a wedding dress I think. I'd love to see this on though! I'd never think of wearing something like this and probably wouldn't have an event to wear it to, so I can see why you're tempted to wear it!

Lemonsandlime87 · 16/01/2026 08:00

Ffs it’s 3/4 white!! And looks a bit cheap anyway but that’s besides the point.

unless the bride has specified in the invites that she isn’t wearing white and has welcomed guests to do, please do not wear it. Even then it’s not appropriate.

Bumble2016 · 16/01/2026 08:00

I think it's wonderful that you've found something that makes you feel incredible, but I worry with this dress the comments won't be along the lines of how beautiful you will look, but instead at how inappropriate the colour is. The style and cut is gorgeous but that big block of white is all anyone will notice I think.

Barrellturn · 16/01/2026 08:00

The other guests will just see you as some weird woman trying to upstage the bride. Do you have previous issues with the bride? Is the groom your ex?

StripedTee · 16/01/2026 08:00

Absolutely not.

piano55 · 16/01/2026 08:01

I really wouldn’t.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 16/01/2026 08:02

It's a beautiful dress, and I'm very envious that you have the figure to carry it off!

Absolutely no to wearing it to a wedding. Sorry but it's not about how fabulous you feel on the day, it's about the bride.

On the plus side you can organise a fabulous evening out somewhere posh that you CAN wear it.

3luckystars · 16/01/2026 08:02

That’s a very unusual Christmas gift for someone to give you, a new mom. Had you tried it on, in the exact right size in their company and they went back and bought it for you?

It is absolutely not suitable for a wedding.

IDontHateRainbows · 16/01/2026 08:03

Don't know what size boobs you have OP but mine would be flopping about and falling out in that. Not usually a fan.of husbands dictating what wives can wear, but I see his point.

GAJLY · 16/01/2026 08:03

No as it’s too revealing for a wedding also it’s half white! You shouldn’t wear white to someone else’s wedding! Can you return it? Or save it for another time?

bigboykitty · 16/01/2026 08:03

No, but you know that already.

TrudgingTowards2026 · 16/01/2026 08:03

Is nobody else thinking that the OP just wanted to drive traffic to the website and get people browsing the stuff there?

3luckystars · 16/01/2026 08:04

Yes and it might have worked.

Bestfootforward11 · 16/01/2026 08:04

Love the dress and it’s a real find when you find something you feel fab in! But I don’t think it’s right for a wedding. Maybe tell your husband you’d love to wear it and feel glam so how about he arrange a date night xxx

Definitely, the site looks new for one.

APatternGrammar · 16/01/2026 08:05

Could you have the skirt of the dress dyed and wear something to cover your back and shoulders?

Seriestwo · 16/01/2026 08:05

Yes, I think this is not a troll but a bit odd.

What MiL buys an evening dress for a new mum? for Christmas?

Elfbeth · 16/01/2026 08:06

Even the website selling the dress don’t think it’s suitable! - it’s not listed in their wedding guest section

HK04 · 16/01/2026 08:07

Not at all suitable for a wedding.

PonderPONDERponder · 16/01/2026 08:07

I get the vibe you’re going to wear it, no matter what anyone else says.

carpetfluffs · 16/01/2026 08:07

If the OP can get away with tight white satin around her middle and no bra after recently welcoming a baby then there are so many nicer dresses she could wear.

BagaChips · 16/01/2026 08:08

Is this some kind of stealth advert for this brand that nobody has ever heard of? They have a new instagram account, 1 follower on Facebook and their only post is advertising this exact dress

Edited

Definitely

NotnowMildrid · 16/01/2026 08:09

No definitely not, you would stand out like a very sore thumb and look silly (sorry).

In life you have wear appropriate attire to appropriate events, it doesn’t mean you still can’t look lovely.
