..... for using fake evidence to justify the ban on Jewish fans from the Aston Villa v Maccabi Tel Aviv match last year. When in reality, the threat was towards those fans from local anti-semites and he just couldn't be arsed to protect them.

A very fair point. He should still have been sacked though, by the local PCC.

I dimly remember threats being made to Dr David Kelly about loss of his pension over speaking to a journalist about the Iraq ‘dodgy dossier’. If that threat was made it may well just have been bullying nonsense, of course.

The local PCC (Simon Foster) has supported him and his actions throughout, it seems.

Simon Foster is pathetic. God knows how they get these jobs. His speech after Guildford’s resignation was embarrassing. He should have got someone with a brain cell to read it first.

it’s become very clear in the news tonight that pressure was put on the chief constable to cede to certain Muslim groups demands over this. For anyone in Birmingham (including police officers) it’s been a clear problem for a number of years. Who can forget the event that led to shouts of two tier policing when rioting Muslims who had trapped frightened locals in a pub as one of its patrons was severely beaten getting away with it as they had been spoken to by an uncle of the community.

It’s a major issue in Birmingham- it needs sorting out urgently Getting rid of the chief constable is a good opportunity to make sure who gets the role is balanced.

Yet we are still getting Brummie posters denying the issue. I think we know why.

I bet some communiy leaders and MPs are pissed off they have lost one of their many puppets.

yes the anger shown on the news by those individuals was visceral

Same way they showed their anger towards Jess Phillips when she was re-elected. They simply are just violently intolerant.

Honestly, I lived and worked there for over 20 years. We left because it was no longer safe, our previously nice area had been targeted, and yes I do mean targeted

People just won’t discuss the very real issues that exist in Britain’s second city,

Yes, I am very familiar with Brum. It's quite frankly one big shit hole. It's out of control and too late to pull back. You would think this resignation will change things. As long as the police are being controlled and not doing the controlling, the city is screwed.

Simon Foster bears some responsibility that is the debacle that is West Midlands Police.

Oh absolutely Simon Foster and before him Jamieson systematically dismantled police presence in the more affluent, conservative ideas of the West Mids, closing down police station after police station. Ridiculously low levels of policing, two tier policing, acquiescing to whims of “the Community”

Not surprising, but still upsetting. The rot runs deep in the West Midlands Police.

Crikey, that’s quite the dossier.

Yes, the police need to admit that they can't control the mob. And if there's a conflict of interests between Jews and Muslims, they will always side with the Muslims because there's 10 times as many of them. Or they will side with the protesters because they outnumber the opposition.

All this is bad for community relations and it doesn't really benefit anyone.

Edited

This seems to be the problem. I’ve just seen a clip of a woman innocently walking her dog who strayed into an area where there was an Islamist protest. The men shouted insults at her and called her a Nazi (she is very blonde) and the police were quite agitated with her and threatened to arrest HER for a breach of the peace for objecting to being called a Nazi.

The female police officer was quite rough and unpleasant with her and told her that she wasn’t allowed to walk down a certain road in her local area. The suspicion is that it was partly because she had a dog and for certain strands of Islam, dogs are extremely objectionable and the men were objecting to that.

There have been many reports of signs being put up in Islamist areas of the UK that dogs aren’t allowed and a Welsh council even considered officially banning them.

Reports from WMP that the Mosques threaten an armed mobilisation of men (could this be termed a militia?) if the police don’t do as they’re told, so the police give in. This is greatly concerning. Hie many other police forces are in this situation?

I guess part of the problem with the PCC being an elected position is that the Muslim community has a huge amount of voting power to choose their preferred PCC. While I’m sure much of the Birmingham Muslim community are wishing to live gracefully alongside all other groups (Christians, Sikhs, Hindus, atheists), there seem to be some very powerful extremists who gave taken charge.

Given the evidence found of electoral fraud and coercion being at its highest in communities of Pakistani or Bangladeshi Muslims, it seems that the extremists will prevail.

Unless the government steps in and changes something significant, this will just get worse. The government seems to be in denial.

From the article:

Abstract
Several reports have highlighted that, within Britain, allegations of electoral fraud tend to be more common in areas with large Pakistani and Bangladeshi communities. However, the extent of this association has not yet been quantified. Using data at the local authority level, this paper shows that percentage Pakistani and Bangladeshi (logged) is a robust predictor of two measures of electoral fraud allegations: one based on designations by the Electoral Commission, and one based on police enquiries. Indeed, the association persists after controlling for other minority shares, demographic characteristics, socio-economic deprivation, and anti-immigration attitudes. I interpret this finding with reference to the growing literature on consanguinity (cousin marriage) and corruption. Rates of cousin marriage tend to be high in countries such as Pakistan and Bangladesh, which may have fostered norms of nepotism and in-group favoritism that persist over time. To bolster my interpretation, I use individual level survey data to show that, within Europe, migrants from countries with high rates of cousin marriage are more likely to say that family should be one's main priority in life, and are less likely to say it is wrong for a public official to request a bribe.

I believe the PCC role is to be terminated. About time too. Use the bloated salaries to employ front line police officers that are actually useful

I would point out that many of these areas have a high density of MPs too.

Birmingham has major major issues. I lived there happily, walking round the city centre, even at night feeling safe. Now I feel petrified in the middle of the afternoon. I’m really hoping this is the start of the unveiling of the corruption, intimidation acquiescence and prioritisation that exists throughout all the institutions in Birmingham from education, to the police to local councils to MPs.

Sparkhill, Aston, Bordesley Green - I wouldn't ever revisit those areas.

That’s awful that you don’t feel safe in broad daylight. The trouble is, these groups have been given so much power it’s going to be really hard to roll that back. It will also take a government with a serious determination to sort it and Starmer’s government clearly has not got that will. Look at Jess Phillips hobbling the rape gangs inquiry for her 44% Muslim constituency. The longer it goes on, the worse it’s going to be to sort.

We are even being warned by moderate Muslims who know what’s coming.

TBF, in the most general context, many local authorities, run by all parties, are corrupt and improperly run. They become secure little fiefdoms where backscratching and favours become accepted.

The particular issue of ethnic groups controlling elected officials is, though, more a Labour issue than any other party’s.

And the Greens? Mothin Ali shouting “Allahu Akbar” when elected was eye-opening. He’s not even a good politician, can barely string a coherent sentence together.

The Greens are just as, if not more dangerous than the Labour Party. Why on earth did that particular man wheedle his way into that particular party? I know why and you probably do.

YANBU at all. I’d quite like the people voting YABU to explain their thinking.

I would have voted YABU because due process should be followed. You don't just sack people without a proper investigation.

But anyway he resigned.
