To have put my rubbish in the neighbours bin

The people opposite me, who were tenants, moved out just a couple of days before Christmas.
The house doesn't have a "to let" sign or anything up yet, and there's definitely noone living there. However, today was bin day and someone, presumably the owner, had been round and put the wheelie bin out ready last night.
The binmen come at 7am.
At 6:45am, I had the idea of maybe adding a bag of my rubbish to their black bin, if it wasn't full, as I am still trying to catch up from Christmas and have extra.
I nipped over the road, had a peek and there was nothing but one single Tesco carrier bag of rubbish in there.
I went back inside, tied up my own full bin bag of rubbish from my kitchen bin and carried it over the road. By this time, I could hear the bin lorries already coming so I know noone was going to be using that space in that bin.
I then took the bin back up their drive for them.
I went back inside, very pleased with myself for now having completely empty bins.
DH was horrified and said it was very cheeky behaviour and very embarrassing. He really hopes noone saw.

Was it cheeky and embarrassing?

If about to be emptied in 15 minutes no problem then.

Well that’s in the OP!

One woman was fined for sticking her own rubbish out of her car (a cardboard cup and a tissue I think) into a public bin. because it was her personal rubbish.

What sort of rubbish can you put in a public bin then? Surely all rubbish is personal rubbish?

I'm also confused by the woman who was fined for pouring the remnants of a coffee cup down a drain, as it was "personal". Very confused how that is a problem, doesn't my sink lead to the same place?

I’ve had neighbours do it and to be honest I’ve become annoyed because my bin has not been emptied due to it being mixed rubbish. So if the bin men check it can be a nightmare. Not an agreement I had with my neighbour. I had to pay for it to be emptied at a cost of 20:00 plus by the council. Also I’ve had council put rubbish in my recycling bin(the irony of not mixing rubbish and their own staff do it)

Order a bigger bin

I don’t see why it’s cheeky to put your rubbish in someone’s bin.

If my bin were not full on collection day and someone else needed the space, I wouldn’t mind at all if they put their rubbish in with mine. It’s all going to be collected. What’s the big deal?

Depends what the "rubbish" is. At our previous place, one of the neighbouring families seemed to generate prodigious amounts of rubbish, so on bin day they would be checking the neighbours' bins and stuffing them with their "overspill". I drew the line at the stinky nappies etc which made our bins stink and returned them to their rightful owner.

They didn't do it again.

Some people are just weird about things like this. When I moved into my current house I had lots and lots of boxes from moving and from deliveries. Both my neighbour and I have separate bins but all 8 bins (general, paper, food, tins) are kept in the shared alley. I asked the then neighbours who didn't put their paper bin out of they'd mind me putting some boxes in their empty and unused bin to get rid of the boxes quicker. Absolutely not was the answer. 🙄

Aren't people just unnecessarily nasty?! I couldn't care less if someone filled my bin with their rubbish if it was half empty. Who cares? It gets emptied in any case. No skin off my nose at all....and if I can help someone out without having to actually lift a finger, even better lol

It really depends on how your house is positioned- i live on an inward corner and many people walking past use my bin, I am not very fond of this because it sometimes means there is no room in the bin for my rubbish- the binmen here will not take bags on the top or by the side of the bin here.
I can therefore understand neighbours not being thrilled- bear in mind there is a proposal out there to chip bins and charge you for the weight, so best not to get used to using other people's bins.

There was me thinking I was going to agree, and it's about the wrong rubbish causing you bin not to be taken which is bad either two week deliveries.

Instead it's about a family, and them interrupting the enjoyment of your bin sniffing activities . . . . .
