Saw the spectacle for myself. As a woman in my late 20s I have absolutely no desire to participate in this. Seems like an outdated 2013 “quirky” trend that won’t die. I’m always surprised at the diversity in those who participate - old/young, thin/bigger etc.

Maybe I’m getting older but I really just thought “put it away”

Saw the paps at the St I got off and would be mortified being photographed in my knickers.

Some of the hairy, Casper legs were quite frankly gross!

Tight trousers can show you more penis gasps because not a PENIS than those underpants are

I have no idea what any of that means.

That doesn't surprise me

Can you translate it? It looks like the Morecambe & Wise piano sketch - all the right notes but not in the right order.

Body hair isn’t gross.

Well, one would hope. However I don't think it's always a given.

People are always complaining on here about shorts and skirts that are little more than underwear 🤣

True thought that is, you could have stopped typing just prior to 'about' and it would have been just as true and perhaps, in a way, truer.

A one off, bit of fun, event which has been running for 10 years + now is hardly lowering the standards

They don't even travel to the Tube in their underwear, they strip off once they get there. Showing they don't think it's appropriate everywhere...

Oh please, this is MN, there is no room for being sensible about things 😄

Honestly, I sometimes wonder if I have been transported back to Victorian times when reading MN threads. I hope any easily shocked MNers have taken to carrying smelling salts to deal with any attacks of the vapours they might experience when seeing (gasp!!!) people in their underwear.

Which is a very fair and accurate comment too 🤣

I'm not sure you'd understand even if I said it in words of 1 syllable

Well let’s see. So give a translation because I am not understanding the order the words are in as you have presented them.

It grossed me out, I wouldn't put my bottom without trousers or a skirt on on a tube seat. It's disgusting. London Underground is the most polluted part of London.

Also most people don't have the physique for it to be visually attractive.

alexdgr8 · 14/01/2026 01:52

I think it's disgusting and very unhygienic.
Years ago I used to recoil from seeing men in football shorts all muddy legs on the tube.
Other people have to sit on those seats.
There's a reason overalls etc exist. Not just to protect the wearer. But to protect others as overalls should be removed before mingling. Ditto sportswear.
The fact the tube and bus seats are fabric makes all this more anxiety inducing. Other countries have hard surfaces on bus n train seats. Easy to wipe and hose down.
I was once pricked by i know not what in the upholstery of a bus seat. Went straight to a walk in for tetanus injection. The nurse could see the point of entry. Took it seriously.

Monty27 · 14/01/2026 02:04

Well it's all about exhibitionism, people hoping to get noticed by someone .
Keep it amongst yourselves I say.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 14/01/2026 02:09

It’s very strange. Some wearing jock strap type underpants.
A tradition like this attract the odd weirdo too.
I don’t see my own leg’s November to March. 🥶

I watched a clip recently about hygiene on train seats. Think bringing bed bugs home with you.
Nuff said.
