What do you make of ‘No Trouser Tube Ride’?

Saw the spectacle for myself. As a woman in my late 20s I have absolutely no desire to participate in this. Seems like an outdated 2013 “quirky” trend that won’t die. I’m always surprised at the diversity in those who participate - old/young, thin/bigger etc.

Maybe I’m getting older but I really just thought “put it away”

Saw the paps at the St I got off and would be mortified being photographed in my knickers.

Some of the hairy, Casper legs were quite frankly gross!

Or how about teachers going to school in just their knickers or underpants. Do people think that is ok and if not why not? How about your boss or your dentist? People are so eager to be seen as cool they don’t want anyone to ever think they might have boundaries.

Yep. Liberal used to mean Tories with a conscience, now it means getting undressed in public.
Surprising in this age of competitive hygiene that people want to do it on the tube, maybe they're topping up their microbiomes, though perhaps better in January, the tubes in summer are grim enough.

Thirdchildjoy · 13/01/2026 10:26

No legs are gross. It takes a special snowflake to be offended by legs that are a little different to their own.

roseyposey · 13/01/2026 10:29

randomchap · 13/01/2026 10:03

Bunch of middle class attention seeking dickheads

Nail on head

How I’d love my small child to witness this and start thinking that it’s okay to take your trousers off and sit in your underwear in public 🙄

Boundaries boundaries boundaries. Please.

BIossomtoes · 13/01/2026 10:30

It’s only an age of competitive hygiene on MN. Nobody I actually know comes anywhere near the ridiculous levels I see here.

ByWisePanda · 13/01/2026 10:39

Proaky · 12/01/2026 21:40

No the men!

Would you rather the men clean shaven down there. You saucy minx

MissDoubleU · 13/01/2026 10:39

Well, what about the annual naked bike ride? Isn’t that far worse ?

Politicians247UnderwearExtinguishingService · 13/01/2026 10:39

BIossomtoes · 13/01/2026 09:41

What’s the difference apart from the location?

And that's the whole point: location matters greatly when it comes to what is or isn't appropriate. Everybody on this thread will almost certainly have been naked or very partially clothed today, when in their own homes; but very few of them will have been out in public that way.

Yes, a beach is still a public place, but you can usually find your own patch that's sufficiently away from others; and people are often just lying there, minding their own business. It's completely different with public transport - where you're unavoidably very close to other people and often have your face up close to parts of other people's bodies.

Politicians247UnderwearExtinguishingService · 13/01/2026 10:41

BIossomtoes · 13/01/2026 09:47

How about not introducing irrelevant comparisons and sticking to what’s under discussion? It’s a tube train on a Sunday and nobody’s doing the job they’re paid for.

Do you really think that nobody using public transport on a Sunday is on their way to work, or even in the process of working?

quantumbutterfly · 13/01/2026 10:42

Politicians247UnderwearExtinguishingService · 13/01/2026 10:41

Is that you vicar?

Politicians247UnderwearExtinguishingService · 13/01/2026 10:44

BriefEncountersOfTheThirdKind · 13/01/2026 10:00

Is a Sunday afternoon rush hour?

And what about in summer when it's shorts and skirts? They don't really cover much more...

Really? Wearing commonly recognised outer clothing doesn't cover any more than underwear does? If that's the case, why have a special day for people to be out in public in their pants; why not just make underwear as outerwear the everyday norm?

ByWisePanda · 13/01/2026 10:45

Proaky · 12/01/2026 21:47

you cannot be this much of a stick in the mud, surely!

You'll start seeing Tango's walking around from that comment. Half of the women you see looking orange will be from Mumsnet.

Politicians247UnderwearExtinguishingService · 13/01/2026 10:49

quantumbutterfly · 13/01/2026 10:42

Is that you vicar?

Is that you, the 1950s?!

Public transport drivers, conductors, guards, admin staff... people on their way to or from one of the very many workplaces that is open/operational on a Sunday, and maybe trying to work on their commute?

Ironically, vicars often live locally in their parishes, and so are probably less likely to need to use public transport to get there - unlike people who work in city centre shops but could never hope to afford to live in walking distance!

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 13/01/2026 10:50

Grow the fuck up.

Them, not you OP.

Politicians247UnderwearExtinguishingService · 13/01/2026 10:50

MissDoubleU · 13/01/2026 10:39

Well, what about the annual naked bike ride? Isn’t that far worse ?

That's gross too - but the existence of something worse doesn't automatically make something less bad magically totally fine.

5foot5 · 13/01/2026 10:51

I am a bit shocked at all the negative comments TBH.

I mean, I certainly wouldn't take part. Nobody wants to see my 60+ year old nether regions. However, I wouldn't be in the least bit offended by this. It just looks like light hearted fun.

tartyflette · 13/01/2026 10:56

Any event or occasion involving public nudity or partial nudity will attract perverts and exhibitionists.
And those will be overwhelmingly male.
So, no thanks.

ThreeSixtyTwo · 13/01/2026 10:57

Yes, they are different ages and shapes and some have hairy leg, how daring.
When I see how much outrage it causes, maybe it needs to happen more often...

1950's? I'm sure I've seen a vicar in the wild since then. Are they as rare as hedgehogs now?

Thirdchildjoy · 13/01/2026 10:26

No legs are gross. It takes a special snowflake to be offended by legs that are a little different to their own.

What about packages? Should we have these in our face when sitting on the tube, in all their y-fronted or budgie smuggler glory?

So you’re saying people want to see young and attractive people in their underwear in public places?

Waitingforthesunnydays · 13/01/2026 11:01

LighthouseLED · 12/01/2026 21:47

Skin colour is not a choice. Completely wrong to make fun of any skin tone.

Oh come on 🙄

AllTheChaos · 13/01/2026 11:02

MooFroo · 12/01/2026 22:38

Ridiculous and should be banned.
Simple - put clothes on in public, why encourage people to walk around in knickers?!

Why? They are wearing clothes. I mean, I personally think it’s daft and wouldn’t do it, but why do you think it should be banned? As long as people’s genitalia are covered (and - personal prejudice - secondary sexual characteristics- but that’s a personal thing and I don’t think should be enshrined in law!) I see no issue with it. If bodies were covered less all the time maybe people would get less het up about seeing them.

wishingonastar101 · 13/01/2026 11:03

It's just attention seeking twats - like the naked bike ride (which is predominantly older men... surprise...)

Laiste · 13/01/2026 11:03

If it's all so cool and perfectly normal to be out in the town in your pants, why have they all come out to do it laughing and giggling ?

You can't have it both ways - it's either controversial (which is exactly what's making it fun) or it's nothing special. In which case the 20 somethings wouldn't be bothering to take part.

5foot5 · 13/01/2026 11:03

BunnyLake · 13/01/2026 11:01

So you’re saying people want to see young and attractive people in their underwear in public places?

I am saying I don't want to expose my bits in a public place but I really wouldn't be offended by anybody else's. Young, old, hairy or whatever.
