Saw the spectacle for myself. As a woman in my late 20s I have absolutely no desire to participate in this. Seems like an outdated 2013 “quirky” trend that won’t die. I’m always surprised at the diversity in those who participate - old/young, thin/bigger etc.

Maybe I’m getting older but I really just thought “put it away”

Saw the paps at the St I got off and would be mortified being photographed in my knickers.

Some of the hairy, Casper legs were quite frankly gross!

@quantumbutterfly yes, definitely, it’s all those cruel people running them over 😂 (I love your analogy by the way! I will
henceforth consider vicars to be like hedgehogs!)

CrapNewYear · 13/01/2026 11:05

First time I've heard of it but then I don't live in London. It's hardly surprising given the TikTok generations but I can't help feeling that someone will spoil it by behaving badly as people always do.

BunnyLake · 13/01/2026 11:06

BIossomtoes · 13/01/2026 09:47

How about not introducing irrelevant comparisons and sticking to what’s under discussion? It’s a tube train on a Sunday and nobody’s doing the job they’re paid for.

Does the world stop on Sundays then?

We can only hope 🤞

Waitingforthesunnydays · 13/01/2026 11:08

It would all be a bit of harmless fun if we didn’t live in a society where over a third of women have been sexually assaulted on the tube. Sadly I think it’s just another opportunity for those predatory fucks to get their cocks even closer to women on the tube. There’s no way I’d be riding the tube in a busy carriage with men in their gross y-fronts anywhere near me 🤮

BriefEncountersOfTheThirdKind · 13/01/2026 11:09

Politicians247UnderwearExtinguishingService · 13/01/2026 10:44

Really? Wearing commonly recognised outer clothing doesn't cover any more than underwear does? If that's the case, why have a special day for people to be out in public in their pants; why not just make underwear as outerwear the everyday norm?

People are always complaining on here about shorts and skirts that are little more than underwear 🤣

GlomOfNit · 13/01/2026 11:10

sigh.... It's always the Men, isn't it? The naked bike rides are the same. A sprinkling of handmaiden women but mostly guys who just want the attention and to insert themselves into women's gaze and space. It's not pleasant to be sitting on the Tube, crammed full of people, at the best of times, so why would you want to be pressed up against someone in their pants?

No, it's not the same as wearing shorts, or being on the beach... You know it's not!

BunnyLake · 13/01/2026 11:13

5foot5 · 13/01/2026 11:03

I am saying I don't want to expose my bits in a public place but I really wouldn't be offended by anybody else's. Young, old, hairy or whatever.

Because of your age you said.

It’s not a question of being offended, it’s more can we please not keep lowering standards and we can we not keep nurturing attention seeking nobodies who want to feel special for their fifteen minutes of ‘fame’. If my 20 something sons said they were doing this I’d tell them to stop being so moronic. Thankfully they never would.

ladyofshertonabbas · 13/01/2026 11:13

There is no way I would sit on a tube seat with only some thin knickers as a barrier. Ughh.

PandorasSockBox · 13/01/2026 11:18

I get the impression that a lot of people have difficulty with the concept of dressing appropriately for certain situations. Call me a grumpy old lady, but going without trousers on the tube does not seem particularly appropriate or is this for charity, like a rag week event?

quantumbutterfly · 13/01/2026 10:58

1950's? I'm sure I've seen a vicar in the wild since then. Are they as rare as hedgehogs now?

I think they're stuck in the 1950s if they think most vicars still live in their parishes and don't have to travel around on a Sunday to visit the 5 churches they have under their ministry

I wouldn’t do it any more than I’d go to Tesco like it or a dental appointment or walk the dog. Why it’s deemed ok on a tube is anyone’s guess.

People who say it’s fine, do you think it’s fine to dress in just your knickers for every aspect of public life? Would you be ok with your kids attending work or university in just their underwear? Would you be ok with them
popping to the shops in just their undies? Why are you ok with undies on public transport?

ByWisePanda · 13/01/2026 11:22

"Participants said the idea was simple. Do something different, break the winter routine and share a laugh with strangers. The event has no political aim and no organisers on the ground. It follows a tradition that started in New York more than twenty years ago and has since spread to other cities."

A one off, bit of fun, event which has been running for 10 years + now is hardly lowering the standards

They don't even travel to the Tube in their underwear, they strip off once they get there. Showing they don't think it's appropriate everywhere...

Bagsintheboot · 13/01/2026 11:24

I don't think it's for charity, I think it's a just-for-fun kind of thing.

Quite eccentrically British in its own way I suppose.

It sounds like a totally pointless attention seeking slop.

AllThingsAreGods · 13/01/2026 11:24

I’ve lived in london for 30 years and have never heard of this.

You could say the same about many, many other things too 🤷‍♀️

Indianajet · 13/01/2026 11:31

I am completely bemused by the whole idea - I can think of much better things to do on a Sunday afternoon. 3

TheatreTheatre · 13/01/2026 11:31

They are missing the point of their own event by making it a regular fixture.

They need to invent something new every year.

(if they must)

I quite like unexpected 'interventions' but this is immature as a continued 'oooh lets take our trousers off' thing.

And down with body shaming. It would actually be more yukky if it was restricted to the young and subjectively beautiful - like a Magic mike ' strippagram type thing.

BriefEncountersOfTheThirdKind · 13/01/2026 11:32

And for those going on about "but would you think it's acceptable here?"

Different outfits are acceptable in different situations.

You wouldn't rock up to work in your wedding dress (well unless you were a wedding dress model 🤣) but it's entirely appropriate at your wedding

You wouldn't wear your snow suit to the beach or your bikini to the Alps

I wear very similar to these people to watch Rocky Horror (as do a good chunk of the audience) but I wouldn't dress the same to go to the same theatre the week later to see Mousetrap or Mamma Mia or whatever

It's done for the event. They aren't regularly just catching the Tube in their pants

It’s entirely logical to assume that nobody taking part in this event is at work, isn’t it? If they are, what do you think their job might be?
