The more tenuous the better.

I don’t want any of your “My mum used to clean for a famous pop star” because that turns into pages of tiresome questions and “Oh go on tell us who it is/give us a clue/no I can’t sorry”

I want such tenuous connections that nobody will bother asking follow up questions.

I’ll start.

My dog was Mr Tumble’s dog’s mum.

I have danced a Scottish Reel with Brian Blessed. Im Four Foot 10 so my feet didn't touch the floor much. He was exactly as you would imagine!

I also met Jimmy Saville on the bus but less said about that the better.

I sat opposite Kate Moss on a flight to Barbados. She was facing rearward in club/business and I was facing forward.

One for the Scots. When I was 16, our school choir was one of the supporting acts at a charity concert in the Carnegie Hall (Dunfermline), headlined by Dorothy Paul.

Another one for Scots: the accordion and fiddle group that I played in did a couple of concerts at the Carnegie Hall with Alastair MacDonald as compere.

Another group that I was in was the support for Jimmy Shand Jnr's band. He wasn't very pleasant to us. We had arranged to take over a particular dance - the second set - had the music all ready...and he switched to another dance without telling us.

Walking down the street in Belsize Park with my DC, Helena Bonham Carter was behind us and commented to her own DC that my DC looked lovely and well behaved!

I did a Post-Grad Diploma in Media Ed between Jordanhill College and Glasgow Caledonian Poly. One of our lecturers was both the HON Man and Frances Gay. (This will only make sense to readers of the Sunday Post.)

My dog was summoned to court for not paying her poll tax. She attended, but the case was dismissed.
It was in all the papers. They said stuff like, ‘The terrier was not represented because she could not find a lawyer who would work pro bonio.’

I was an extra in Hetty Wainthrop with Dominic Monaghan

My cousin is in Downton Abbey.

DH is in a Malaysian horror movie that went to Cannes and has won some prizes. We've never seen it as we both hate horror and it looks scary.

He was also cast in Angelina Jolie's Unbroken but we couldn't get the logistics of that to work as all the local accommodation was booked out.

My husband’s grandmother used to live next door to Jessica Lange. One day, my FIL was at his mom’s house and making pancakes for breakfast. For whatever reason, Jessica Lange’s kids stopped by, so my FIL made some pancakes for them too.

I'm from the same Scottish clan as Donald Trump's mother 😂

I'd keep quiet about that!

I once stood a metre or so from Princess Di and waved tiny union jacks flags we were all given.

She was visiting the special school (I think that’s what we called it back then) across from mine. And my class had been invited to go stand in the playground of that school and help welcome her by waving flags and clapping etc

I don’t remember if we made eye contact or not but she would definitely have noticed me as I stood out in my class/school for a couple of reasons which I won’t say as they could be outing 😂

I was on Japanese TV, quite unexpectedly, being interviewed live about the setting up of a sister city arrangement. My Japanese completely disappeared and all I could think of was French. I answered the question perfectly. In French. To the surprise of a few million Japanese viewers.

In 1985, the Royal Tour of Australia, Prince Charles was off to play Polo near us.
We went to wait at a corner on the way.
Hubby was holding our 1 year old daughter, Who was the same age as Prince Harry.
The car procession slowed down. Diana’ window was down. Hubby said, Princess Diana looked at him, But I think she was looking at the baby, being same age as her son.

flexes arms

In the 1970s, the Chairman of Cowdenbeath Football Club asked me why my dad wasn't at the game that day. (I was on First Aid Duty.)

As a First Aider, I got tea and biscuits in the Directors' Lounge and was allowed to use the loo there.

You were allowed to use their LOO?
Wow. You win!

I shared a lift with Kobus Wiese (the ex Springboks rugby player). The power went out so we had to wait for the generator to kick in.

That man is a mountain! He took up the space of the whole one side of the lift.

Happypotter77 · 11/01/2026 05:47

I have two ...

The sister of my ex-husband was a bridesmaid at Kevin Keegan's wedding.

The same ex-husband played chess against John Hurt's father (he was a vicar if I recall correctly).

tilypu · 11/01/2026 05:50

I worked on a film that very few people will have heard of, that starred the Oxo mum. I never met her.

WizardOfAz · 11/01/2026 05:56

I was, very rudely, pushed into a wall by Muhammad Ali's bodyguard as I was coming out of a shop that he was going into.

tilypu · 11/01/2026 05:57

This is very tenuous, partly because most people probably won't know who she is.

I once served Winnie Ewing in a shop. I didn't realise who she was until she handed me her credit card. I did a double take. She knew I had twigged, and smiled, but neither of us said anything.

Globules · 11/01/2026 06:00

I went to school with a z list actress & TV presenter.

I lived next door to Annie Lennox cousin. She once told me about Annie & Dave's wedding and all the people she met there.

I was one of the interviewees for a series on royal weddings.

I've been in national newspapers for something ridiculous that was deemed newsworthy in August.

My friend served Shane Lynch from Boyzone a fruit platter with kiwi on. He'd never tried it before and quite enjoyed it.

I joined in with a loud conversation on the next table in a bar. Turned out it was Hal Cruttenden and his mate. His mate was not happy that Hal was enjoying talking to me and got up without warning to move to a table the other side of the venue. Hal followed him, very apologetically. Seems the friend had form for this.
