The more tenuous the better.

I don’t want any of your “My mum used to clean for a famous pop star” because that turns into pages of tiresome questions and “Oh go on tell us who it is/give us a clue/no I can’t sorry”

I want such tenuous connections that nobody will bother asking follow up questions.

I’ll start.

My dog was Mr Tumble’s dog’s mum.

Haha I do think he is quite suave as Blackadder, but I've always had a thing for Sean Bean (and his lovely accent!)

Oh yes .. Sean Bean’s accent ❤️

My mum told Sandie Shaw she was late for ante natal class. She had bare feet ( SS not my mum).

My hair stylist is friends with Gethin Jones - they were at school together. Gethin always pops in for a trim when he’s in the area.

Theoldwrinkley · 18/01/2026 08:51

a bit late to this thread....sorry! A work colleague's aunt was Hitler's secretary.

SockQueen · 18/01/2026 09:01

Chris and Xand Van Tulleken (Operation Ouch/Ultra-processed People etc) taught me anatomy in my first year at uni in the early 00s.

I was walking along the canal and met a bloke with two gorgeous red setters which I made a fuss of (I love dogs) while thinking the guy sounded rather camp. Found out later it was Alan Carr. Not that I'd have behaved any differently if I'd known at the time. They were lovely dogs.

I worked with a chap whose wife’s sister went to school with Jude Law.

I used to live 2 doors away from a Cliff Richard impersonater/looky-likey

My ex-boyfriend had one of Eric Idle's school textbooks

You win!

I am related to the solicitor who represented Glenn Miller the big band man/conductor back in the 20s and 30s.

In the 80s me and my db were “glared” at by Frank Thornton aka Captain Peacock of “Are you Being Served” fame as we tried to cross a very busy road near Trafalgar Square. He was in his car, we seeing a gap in the traffic cautiously stepped into the road at the very moment he decided to turn into the junction we were crossing at. His demeanour was very much in keeping with his tv character.

Most recent..Passed Jeremy Kyle in a narrow space at school(I was a nanny)smiled at him and was ignored.

I've been glared at by Frank Thornton too @VeganStar!
I lived in Holmfirth - where they filmed Last of the Summer Wine - for many years, but only ever came across them filming once. We were coming home across Saddleworth Moor, came down the lane towards Bilberry/Digley reservoirs and slowed to pass a few parked cars - Frank Thornton and Peter Sallis were sitting in the back seat of one of them. I could literally see him thinking "Oh FFS" as I was over excitedly squeaking "it's Captain Peacock" to my DH 😂
Very nice BBC man invited us to watch filming and made us a brew.

It makes you think was he actually acting on screen or was it just his usual demeanour. Thinking of it now it probably must have been.
That was very nice of the bbc person to have invited you to watch.

I met Ronnie Corbett at Heathrow once. I was waiting for my husband, standing outside with our dog. He crossed the road and doggie was very happy he might make a new friend. Ronnie smiled and said "What a nice doggie!" and I burst with pride.

pensterino · 18/01/2026 18:48

I was at school with a Pogue (not Shane). I have a third cousin who's a life peer. And I once saw Francis Bacon (the artist) sitting in the reception area of the investment management firm I worked for in the eighties.

sophiasnail · 18/01/2026 22:03

I taught Matt Fisher, the England cricketer for A level maths. Absolutely lovely lad.

Serenity45 · 18/01/2026 22:53

My ex partner's parents lived next door to the actress who played one of the barmaid in Phoenix Nights (the one who tried the love eggs out 😂)

HazelOP1972 · 18/01/2026 23:56

I saw him at Gatwick airport about 30 yrs ago lol

berryberi · 19/01/2026 00:45

Me and my friend went pony trekking and Chris de Burgh was there with his daughter. His daughter wanted the pony my friend had so she got it. It was a bit weird. It wouldn't have happened for a non-celebrity.

QuayshhLawrain · 19/01/2026 01:51

Mike Wozniak walks his dog past my house most days.

That’s him! We went on the same holiday once (me, Matt Ryan…and 30 other teenagers 😂) I ironed his jeans once in frustration at his shit ironing skills. 🙄😉😂

Edited

I got my daughter in to the show a few years ago, she met him at a Comic Con in the summer. By the looks of her pics, he still hasn’t mastered it 😂 But he was very sweet, chatted away to her for ages, she absolutely adored him 🥰

HazelOP1972 · 22/01/2026 20:36

My Sister and I went to the New Forest in Hampshire on a pony trekking holiday years ago and one day Esther Ranzen and her 2 girls were there as they had a house in the forest and knew the stable owners very well. We led the girls round the outdoor menage on ponies. Later, we heard Esther say the following week she would bring Nick Ross along (guy who did Crimewatch on BBC1).
A lady working there Krystal was also a hand model for a Gin tv advert that was popular at that time.

Richard O'brien asked me if I wanted to get some fried chicken with him after a Rocky Horror show. I said no 🤷
