The more tenuous the better.

I don’t want any of your “My mum used to clean for a famous pop star” because that turns into pages of tiresome questions and “Oh go on tell us who it is/give us a clue/no I can’t sorry”

I want such tenuous connections that nobody will bother asking follow up questions.

I’ll start.

My dog was Mr Tumble’s dog’s mum.

During HCP training, I had a mentor who nursed one of the Kray twins up until his death.

My mate's mum worked with one of them in prison. Said he was vile and truly evil

I was on the TV quite a lot in the late 90s ( and in magazines) Used to get recognised quite a lot.

Much less now, although someone did a few months ago much to my daughter’s amusement.

HelenaWaiting · 11/01/2026 01:29

Imelda Staunton gave me a cough sweet when I couldn't stop coughing at the theatre. (She was in the audience, not in the play).

Villanellesproudmum · 11/01/2026 01:29

Oh and Claudia Winkleman before she was famous bought me a lovely bunch of flowers for doing her a favour, she was and probably still is a very lovely woman. Went to a few celeb parties when younger.

In a Central London pub my DH once asked Boris Johnson, who he absolutely loathes, if he wanted a game of pool. Boris Johnson said no.

I served Vanessa Feltz at Waitrose when I was 16. I only realised when I saw her name on her debit card.

Same, but it was Eddie Izzard.I served.

I’ve name changed for this as I’ve told this story many times. A team visited our school to record some of us to provide the soundtrack for music performances at Grange Hill. I have no idea how this came to pass, I was about 12 at the time. They needed a school with a tuba player, which was me!

There was a kid in the show who played the tuba, and I provided the parping sounds. I was paid with a Grange Hill badge and a mug!

My friend used to live with VB while at stage school. Vic still owes her a fiver for a takeaway.

My Dad rewired Edwin Starr’s house. His colleague saw a ghost there, and was never the same after that.

Somnambule · 11/01/2026 01:42

When I was backpacking years ago I got pissed with a girl who was friends with Isla Fisher.

WearyAuldWumman · 11/01/2026 01:48

Okay...

I worked at the same school as a young teacher who had once served Norman Wisdom in a restaurant in the Isle of Man.

My friend was one of 2 of Madonna’s body guards for 3 yrs until recently. My friend and the other body guard lived in her house with the family. I didn’t know but when he told me I looked at photos of her online and he was in every single one. He moved on because it consumed his whole life.

WearyAuldWumman · 11/01/2026 01:53

I was secretary at a folk club the night that Peggy Seeger of the Seeger family (and wife of Ewan McColl and mother of Kirsty McColl) performed.

WearyAuldWumman · 11/01/2026 01:54

A pupil at the school where I worked was an extra on Outlander.

SocksAndTheCity · 11/01/2026 01:55

I shut a door on Jonathan Ross at the Shepherds Bush Vue in 2016.

WearyAuldWumman · 11/01/2026 01:56

One of my pupils captained the Scotland Under 18 football squad.

Whitewashday · 11/01/2026 01:57

One for the older MN’s, many years ago I served drinks to Russ Abbot in a disco he gave me a big tip. He then commandeered the DJ’s microphone to sing his hit Atmosphere and got me to join in, he was lovely and very funny.

WearyAuldWumman · 11/01/2026 01:57

My tutor in 2nd Yr at uni was Edwin Morgan, Scotland's first Poet Laureate/Makar.

Puffalicious · 11/01/2026 01:58

Mick Jagger waved at me in Covent Garden as an excitable 21 year old.

My brother played American Football briefly with Marti Pellow. He still has an old cassette tape of a demo of 'Wishing I Was Lucky'.

SnowDaysAndBadLays · 11/01/2026 01:59

I've spent Christmas at Jimmy Nail's Mum's house.
I've washed Martin Brundle's Mum's hair.
Harry Styles spoke to me at one of his concerts, but only to check on the girl behind me who had fainted.

Puffalicious · 11/01/2026 02:01

My DP was stopped 15 years ago & taken for the actor Robert Carlyle by one of his best mates. The guy was shocked by how similar the looked. Not so much now, DP has definitely aged better!

I went to the wedding reception of the bass guitarist, Jamie Stewart, who was a band member of The Cult at the time, about 1987. He lived a couple of doors down from my Nan in a terraced 2 up 2 down. All the men were wearing kilts. It was held in a local hall and they were having a good old knees up. None of the other band members were there btw.

Dh and dd went to a football match at Manchester United last season and Kier Starmer was seated very close to them.

Oh wow, I used to fancy Jamie Stewart rotten ! I’d have been so jealous.
