The more tenuous the better.

I don’t want any of your “My mum used to clean for a famous pop star” because that turns into pages of tiresome questions and “Oh go on tell us who it is/give us a clue/no I can’t sorry”

I want such tenuous connections that nobody will bother asking follow up questions.

I’ll start.

My dog was Mr Tumble’s dog’s mum.

My sister was on Knightmare

David Beckam came to the hospital where I work to visit all the injured soldiers during the Afghanistan troubles. I held the door open for him and he didn’t even notice me or say thank you. 🤭

SO JEALOUS!

I auditioned. We didn't get through as my friend was a creative type who kept answering all the questions incorrectly, and too quickly for the others of us to correct her.

I went to school with someone who later won the Adeline Genée Gold Medal
(now renamed ‘The Fonteyn’) and danced with the Royal Ballet.

My Dad rewired Edwin Starr’s house. His colleague saw a ghost there, and was never the same after that.

Met Edwin Starr a couple of times he was really nice guy.

I worked in a shop on Oxford street years ago, Lulu came in with her goddaughter and was loudly proclaiming “get what you want! Lulu will buy you whatever you want!” (She has terrible skin)
I also served Paula Yates, she was tiny and left her youngest daughter in the fitting room with the shop assistant working there, whilst she shopped for her other daughters!
I also met Rolf Harris at a dinner where he was the after dinner speaker, he was absolutely hilarious. He tried to chat me up whilst his wife was stood next to him, he had awful open pores on his nose.

Don’t be, it’s not a great memory for her, it was agreed by her and the others that she would be the one to complete the adventure but the company team shifted them around and made her do the “left left forward” bit instead of wearing the helmet.

she never got over that

HoorayHattie · 11/01/2026 06:19

I sat opposite Philip Madoc on a train many years ago

iloveeverykindofcat · 11/01/2026 06:21

Jordan Peterson personally insulted me on Twitter once.

StMichaelPenkevil · 11/01/2026 06:21

I once cashed some travellers cheques for Ian Paisley when I worked for a summer in bank in France. Herbert Lom was a customer of the same Branch so served him a couple of times.

I was young at the time but I asked for, and got, Lulu’s autograph. This was in a shop in London and the only thing I had with me for her to sign was my Paddington paperback (which I lost a little afterwards).

My Grandma got James Garner’s signature for me at a pro-am golf tournament we had gone to watch.

Once saw Paul Young in the street In Glasgow.

Wow! With all these celebrity sightings, it’s a wonder I’m still so normal 😂

Loving this thread btw.

My wedding was discussed on National Radio (specifically about my husband but our upcoming wedding came up). Neither of us heard it!
(DH has an amusing name when combined with job title of the time)

I've been in The Times newspaper 7 Times.

My friend dated Keanu Reeves for a few months.

SapphOhNo · 11/01/2026 06:44

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 11/01/2026 06:59

I’ve held a pair of John Lennon jeans, and Chesney Hawkes when he was a baby
Both in our village shop where I had a Saturday job whilst at school.

Stayingafloatish · 11/01/2026 07:02

I had the pleasure of working with the cast of Grey’s Anatomy for 6 days. (I was not on camera). They were lovely, Kevin McKidd (Owen) and Caterina Scorsone (Amelia) were my favorites (they had a lot of scenes together back then).

TheTortiePuffinNeedsHerBreakfast · 11/01/2026 07:07

My cousin was at school with Harry Styles.

WeAreNotOk · 11/01/2026 07:20

I went to junior school with Jason Kay from Jamiroquai. He wasnt famous at the time but his Mum Karen Kay was a very good impersonator. It was so normal. No one thought anything different about them.
So, Jason, if your reading, please reach out as an old Ardleigh school child.

AhBiscuits · 11/01/2026 07:23

My brother used to deliver newspapers to Jim Bacon's mum.

SparklyGlitterballs · 11/01/2026 07:36

Many, many years ago, when I was a teen, I got Ray Reardon's autograph (6x world snooker champion) and he asked me to hold an item of his trick shot equipment to free his hands up.

In my early 20s, I did a task for Bernard Goldschmidt, who was the last ever research assistant employed by Marie Curie. He thanked me by sending me a silk scarf from his home in France. I still have it, and his hand written letter.

I'm friends with a barber who has cut Alan Carr's hair in the past.

Joystir59 · 11/01/2026 07:40

I was on a course with someone who worked in the prison where Myra Handley was detained.

Bikergran · 11/01/2026 07:41

My dog was operated on by a vet who (as a young teenager) was part of the string quartet which played at the big boss's house in Bugsy Malone.

NameChangedForThis2025 · 11/01/2026 07:41

I was in a play with Robert Pattinsons sister (post Harry Potter, pre Twilight) and he came to see it.

DandyDenimScroller · 11/01/2026 07:41

I served Emma Bunton and her husband in Sainsbury's when I was working on the checkouts back in my youth.

Joystir59 · 11/01/2026 07:42

My friend was a segment in Human Centipede 2

Bikergran · 11/01/2026 07:43

Sebastian Coe lived near us in his Olympic days and we used to see him out running in the early mornings.
