The more tenuous the better.

I don’t want any of your “My mum used to clean for a famous pop star” because that turns into pages of tiresome questions and “Oh go on tell us who it is/give us a clue/no I can’t sorry”

I want such tenuous connections that nobody will bother asking follow up questions.

I’ll start.

My dog was Mr Tumble’s dog’s mum.

Freida McFadden follows me on Instagram.

Ooh, this is the most impressive link for me.
I’m just nearing the end of the third Housemaid book: I love her writing.

Ive gone up in a lift with Felicity Kendal,

I’ve met the master carpenter who renovated the wooden Georgian fan frame (?unsure of the word) in the half circle window above the door of 10 Downing Street. It’s apparently very unusual that it has 7 loopy bits (again unsure of the vocab).

Jimmy Corkhill (Brookside) asked my dad to buy him a drink. I set up a Direct Debit for Libby Purves. My boss in my 6th form Saturday job in a pub was a regular extra in Coronation Street.

My kids' former babysitters have been a run of stars - one was in CITV programmes in the same era as babysitting them, one went on to be a regular in a soap and go on I'm a Celebrity, one was in Kinky Boots and Book Of Mormon in the West End and one performs regularly at Ronnie Scott's..

moggerhanger · 12/01/2026 16:52

When I was a kid, I slept under an eiderdown that had belonged to Clement Atlee's aunt.

I sat in a ‘cafe’ in Broadmoor Hospital at the next table to Peter Sutcliffe and his wife.

I’m related to Tommy Flanagan the Scottish actor. He’s great

Goldwren1923 · 12/01/2026 17:46

I know a person who turned down Brad Pitt hitting on her - right before his Fight Club fame!

ToadRage · 12/01/2026 18:11

My Mum met Mariella Frostrop in the local vets office with my cat. Apparently the town where I grew up became a celebrity hot-spot shortly after i left.

A friend of my husband was in the audience for the first Jeremy Kyle show, she was student at the time and cos it was a new show they were really just inviting people in off the street.

Once had a quick kiss with Gary Moore.
Many years ago viewed a house for sale owned by Super Grass, one band member was present, I couldn't say who.

Ooh I love Gary Moore!

Newname71 · 12/01/2026 18:40

I met Douglas Bader when I was 4. He opened the school I went to in Germany.

Katemax82 · 12/01/2026 18:40

My mum appeared on the 90s TV show "confessions" to confront a man who had stolen our cocatiels from the pub garden a year or so previously (my crush at school saw it and found it hilarious).
I was the only other person sat in an empty upstairs of a Starbucks with David dimbleby (I didn't speak to him).
My husband and I flew over Afghanistan the night America first bombed it during the war in 2001.
My husband's cousins wife is the real fern from the pilot episode of "this is my house".
I delivered a bunch of flowers to Tiger lily hutchence geldof. I worked as a royal mail delivery driver in faversham and didn't bat an eyelid at the parcel that said "TL Hutchence Geldof" until I was outside faversham priory. I had to ask passers by how to get in as my sat nav thing took me to the wrong bit. I had to knock on a separate house that's just outside the main gates and Fifi trixabelle answered! She said "dad told me about these, they're flowers for tiger" I didn't know what to say so said "are you bob geldoffs daughter?" She said yes. Unsure how to respond I just said "cool" and walked off, probably made myself look a right tit.
My stepsons mums sister was on an episode of the supernanny rip off, little angels

Vitriolinsanity · 12/01/2026 18:44

Pete Tong once offered to buy me a drink in a pub. I said no thanks. His friend said “that’s Pete Tong”, I said I don’t believe that’s even a name.

Confused

Someone I used to work with used to be housemates with one of the boy band Five.

My mum did the flowers for Dudley Moore's mum's funeral.

My dad can be seen in the background of an episode of Minder. Not as an extra - just genuinely passing by. He was a carpet filter at the time and he'd just undone the top straps of his knee pads so that the pads were flapping as he walked.

My dd is in the same class as the ds of the most recent Apprentice winner.

When we were looking to buy our first home we viewed a gorgeous flat on a Saturday morning that was full of sleeping people and empty bottles. Turned out it was owned by Jade Goody and rented by a showbiz/gossip journalist. We very nearly bought it but ultimately decided on a modest house rather than a fancy flat so we wouldn't outgrow it.

Ooh I've been an extra on Minder!

cakedup · 12/01/2026 18:53

I snogged someone (not famous) who dated Kate Moss.

MoonWoman69 · 12/01/2026 18:54

Remembered another one!

I lived in a very small village for 6 years from 11 to 17. I was about 14 and walking along the main coast road to my grandmothers house, when a flash sports car pulled up at the side of me. A man leaned across and asked me for directions to somewhere, I forget where now. But I knew where he needed to be and directed him. He couldn't thank me enough!
He looked really familiar, but I couldn't place him. I didn't know where I'd seen him. I tried to describe him to my mum when I got home and she was clueless! A few weeks later he appeared on TV and I shouted that that was the bloke! It was Derek Jacobi!

Katemax82 · 12/01/2026 18:59

I was a cleaner for the family 14th on Kent's rich list (Brett aggregates)
Lovely people, but I was always given instant coffee while they had nice ground coffee! Also I technically owe them £90 as I got paid when they had COVID on the understanding of make up the hours but it never happened

Katemax82 · 12/01/2026 19:01

I also think I saw Jake glynnhaal in Sainsbury's in 2011 (probably just a lookalike). I live very near Vic reeves.

Cravey · 12/01/2026 19:30

I was on page 3 of the news of the world, not for anything risqué though.

Katemax82 · 12/01/2026 19:32

My cousin was married to the man who owned the bedding company, dorma

ILoveYouJefferyS · 12/01/2026 19:37

I went on a date with Phil Oakey from The Human League in late 70s.

Katemax82 · 12/01/2026 20:01

I once saw Gillian Taylforth in Tesco in Borehamwood.
