The more tenuous the better.

I don’t want any of your “My mum used to clean for a famous pop star” because that turns into pages of tiresome questions and “Oh go on tell us who it is/give us a clue/no I can’t sorry”

I want such tenuous connections that nobody will bother asking follow up questions.

I’ll start.

My dog was Mr Tumble’s dog’s mum.

I was taken out for a treat birthday dinner to what was then a new posh hotel in our city centre. It was ruined by Lulu and her entourage at the next table all screeching their heads off loudly throughout their meal.

Arghhhhh!!

Gossipisgood · 12/01/2026 12:01

I was 'blessed; by Cliff Richard. Our school was at a teen pop programme filming studio in the 80s & I sneezed. Cliff Richard shouted out 'Bless You' from the stage.

Stillreadingalot · 12/01/2026 12:08

I was at school with the bass player from "Texas"

Oh I have another one - I have an older friend that co-owned and served at a local cafe the Manic Street Preachers used to eat at circa 1988-90.

Not much to report, they weren't famous at the time and were just regular customers as far as he remembers!

Imlyingandthatsthetruth · 12/01/2026 13:09

Meryl Streep said "hello" to us as we sheltered from a downpour having just left the theatre in New York where she was playing. She was dashing to her limo.

Once shared a lift with Jimmy Tarbuck in the Queen's Hotel in Leeds.

I'm surprised I'm not featured in Hello myself with all this shoulder rubbing.

GirlfriendofSomi · 12/01/2026 13:11

I fucked a lot of footballers in the early 00s.

Tony from Dinnerladies - Andrew Dunne - used to live a couple of doors down from me a few years ago. He liked my dog.

I've been on the radio a lot.

I refused to formally meet Princess Anne when she visited my workplace many years ago. But then we had a brief exchange in the car park as I was wrangling my bike out of the stupid storage things and she was being escorted to a car.

TallulahBetty · 12/01/2026 13:12

My best friend at school was second cousins with Julian Clary. Met him at a party and he was nice.

Yorkshireteaalwayswins · 12/01/2026 13:17

When I was about to be born, I was cast as a newborn baby on Emmerdale. I was then born 3 days late so no stardom for me!

Twogonksandapencil · 12/01/2026 13:21

Me and DH were on a tiny beach in Majorca when the whole cast of The Night Manager Series 1 turned up, clearly on a break from filming. (I swam around Hugh Laurie in the sea!) We then went for lunch and HL was on the table behind us, along with Tom Hiddlesden. A few years later we were on the next table to Stephen Fry at a restaurant in Paxos, so I have (nearly) dined with Fry and Laurie!

curliegirlie · 12/01/2026 13:27

I went to school with one of the co-founders of Boomtown.

curliegirlie · 12/01/2026 13:32

Oh, I also used to work in the school where Alastair Campbell’s attended. I shared the office with the careers advisor so I sat in on her chat about organising work experience - and yes, it was a bit more exciting than that most of the other kids managed to sort.

YouBelongHere · 12/01/2026 14:12

Mine are quite boring compared to the ones on here!!

A close friend worked in a National Trust site that was used in the 'Enola Holmes' film so she met Henry Cavill, Sam Claflin and Millie Bobby Brown. Henry Cavill was apparently kind and down to earth, Millie was a typical teen at the time but generally sweet, Sam Claflin was apparently quite rude.

I got called on stage and serenaded at a K-Pop concert - tiny venue, no where near the fame that BTS had but I was melting all the same 😂

Me and my friend went to watch 'The Lateish Show with Mo Gilligan' recorded live and made it into a fair few of the audience shots - so much so that a colleague approached me at the printer before I'd watched it to ask me about it 😅

DH went to school with Hugh Grant

I went to school with Elizabeth Hurley.
I sat next to her sister Kate in the school orchestra.

We were 2nd violins.

MissAmbrosia · 12/01/2026 15:02

I've slept in the bed previously slept in by Colin Farrel, not once but twice. Firstly the Four Seasons in Dublin, where he'd left that morning according to the porter, and 2nd time in Bruges, when he'd been filming In Bruges 😃
A good friend of mine once came home to find her flat mate shagging a rather infamous MP on the living room sofa.

Moederbuffly · 12/01/2026 15:17

A tenuous link to infamy... Not long after my son was born in the late 80's I got chatting to a woman who told me she was related to Ted Bundy (notorious serial killer) , I remember looking blankly at her as at the time, I'd not heard of him.

Tenuous link to fame, I had my photo taken by the guy who did the famous 80's photo of man with baby sold by Athena the poster shop.

ChaliceinWonderland · 12/01/2026 15:25

Noel Edmonds came to see our school panto in 1983
His wife's sister was in our 6th form.

ProfMummBRaaarrrTheEverLeaking · 12/01/2026 15:29

The tattoo artist who did my tattoo, drew the tattoos on Brad Pitt for the film Snatch. He had photos of the work and meeting him etc in the studio.

Anyusernamewilldo8963 · 12/01/2026 15:36

My mums ex was a bodyguard for East17

My dad was a motoring journalist and once had a motorcaravan to test that had previously been lent to Noel Edmonds - who had forgotten to clear out the fridge before returning it and left behind a small, but by then very smelly, piece of cheese.

Toogreasyforme · 12/01/2026 15:48

When I was a lodger in the 1980s, my landlady’s friend was having an affair with the cricketer Mike Gatting and he used to pick her up from our house. What a disgusting sleaze 🤮

TenuousTed · 12/01/2026 15:56

My Mother’s friend’s nephew is married to Graham Norton.

Oh wow, I used to fancy Jamie Stewart rotten ! I’d have been so jealous.

I had a crush on Ian Astbury but alas I couldn’t swoon over him… I think the rest of the band left after the wedding ceremony. It was so long ago, 36 years in fact.

I’ve just remembered another one. My friend and I, 20 odd years ago, were in a bar in London and we somehow got into the private members bar. Nicholas Bailey (Antony Trueman Eastenders) was there with his girlfriend at the time. I was a little bit tipsy and asked him a bunch of questions about acting. I was very apologetic to his gf and wasn’t trying to chat him up or anything embarrassing…

Brian May said he liked my cats

Why did my brain automatically think "ooh she should tell that story as Brian May said he liked my pussy......cats" I'm so sorry 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

I thought exactly this.

Used to work with a guy who had appeared in several episodes of the children's programme No. 73.
