Neighbours unpleasant vehicle

pimplebum · 10/01/2026 22:23

Inspired by another thread , my neighbour is spoiling my view and bringing down the neighbourhood !😁.

My neighbour two doors down has parked an old ambulance ) which he plans on restoring)
directly opposite

it really spoils my nice view from my window and is a bit jarring every time I open the curtains or when I walk home I occasionally have a mild panic when it looks like there is an ambulance outside my home . Apart from my view and emotional reaction to seeing an ambulance ( past trauma family member killed )

I have asked him nicely to move it as it spoils my view ( I didn’t want to go into other reasons ). But it is still there

it could be moved to the side road or to another home he has recently inherited.

I am not going to do anything unpleasant like slash his tires or be aggressive

am I being unreasonable to ask him to move it again? should I suck it up and get over myself ? or ask his wife as I have nice rapport with her ( which our conversation could ruin)

it disproportionately upsets me but I have already asked him once
what would you do ?

And when it causes problems for another neighbour?

He can park it where he wants. You have asked. He has declined.

Lmnop22 · 10/01/2026 22:42

Surely you don’t still panic when you see this old ambulance parked outside your house given you know it’s your neighbour’s?

And presumably it’s outside his own house which is a perfectly normal place to park a vehicle owned by him - your lovely view normally being his house rather than his ambulance?

I think you’re being a little unreasonable if I’m honest. In a perfect world everyone would do exactly as we ask, the sky would always be blue, the sun would always shine and your view would always be your favourite thing. And primarily we are a nation of thinking about ourselves. And your neighbour is doing the exact same thing….thinking of himself…he’s bought himself a little hobby and he’s put it in his convenient view and parked place that suits him.
From your point of view if it’s taxed and insured from what I understand he can park it anywhere. My neighbours have several cars that I’d prefer not to see also adding to that, they can make it a little tight to get out my driveway. I haven’t told him because there’s literally no point, he’s entitled to park in the road. We can’t just live in a world that suits us imo

Cool!

PennyLaneisinmyheartandmysoul · 10/01/2026 22:52

It’s an old ambulance so why is it giving you trauma? Do you think the nhs have sent an old ambulance to your home unrequested?

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 10/01/2026 22:53

I really don’t think there’s anything you can do. You’ve asked him to move it and he has declined. As long as it’s taxed and insured he can park it where he wants.

HK04 · 10/01/2026 23:03

Sorry OP, sounds more mildly inconvenient than anything.

It’s not parked outside HIS house it’s parked opposite mine ( as I said he is two doors down ) he could park it 4 metres to the right which is a side bit next to bushes which is not near anyone’s house and I get my view back

Next to bushes? So it could make the path narrow/hard to pass?
And is hidden from view so more prime for theft and damage?

Yes it just annoying and I don’t like seeing an ambulance constant reminder that looks like a fairly new one

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 10/01/2026 23:08

I get you.

I have to look at opposite neighbours fucking camper van every day. It feels really claustrophobic, and it never goes anywhere ever. Not even God Forbid on holiday.

It’s just there. Like an eyesore. I call them the Camper Van Cunts. They have a drive too. Our ndn hates it too.

In another thread a poster was asked not to put stuff on her window sill.

Ask if you can paint a mural on the old ambulance.

no it would in no way block anything / anyone at all for him to park it there

possible higher risk of break in but as it’s not a high performance vehicle with a catolicic converter I’d say the risk of break in is low

He could also park it in the drive of his MIL house he has recently inherited which is nearby

That’s the thread that made me ponder if I am being unreasonable, I really really hate seeing it , and yes it does give me a micro jolt every time I walk home and see what looks like an waiting ambulance outside my home , wish it didn’t but that’s me

I haven’t asked the rest of the street what they think so thought I see what others thought in here

would it bother you ?

It's really annoying and a shame he won't move it a little if it'd be no big deal. But you realise you have no say in this so will have to get used to it.

Send him motivating websites. Tell him you've seen what they sell for once done, wow, he must want to crack on with that! Etc.

Or buy a big rusty truck and park opposite his house.

A lot of things bother me about my neighbours and their houses, but I don't tell them.

maybe need a diagram
he is two doors down to my left as I look out my front window , previously uninterrupted nice view is in front of me which is now being blocked

4 metres to the right side is spare ( still quite safe ) parking which would give me my view back and I would not get the micro jolt of fear every day when I see it ( I know silly but I do )

what annoys me is if he had spoken to me and asked me to move my vehicle in same circumstances I would have done it to be neighbourly and I’m a bit surprised he hasn’t

I am going to have to suck it up I think

Edited

that is actually a good idea ( I was hoping the local graffiti artist would have a go and then he’d put it in a garage )

You sound like Hyacinth 'Bouquet'. At least it's not a rusty old ford cortina and he doesn't have an old sofa parked outside Onslow style.

patooties · 10/01/2026 23:28

I’ve got a massive bloody campervan parked outside mine. Great big thing. I silently fume every time I see it. He needs to store it somewhere as it’s been there, unmoved for months - he’s even put fucking wheel clamps on it so nobody steals it. 😳

vipersnest1 · 10/01/2026 23:32

Some years back the people living across the street from me had a hearse (unusually painted metallic silver) outside for a while……
No, I didn’t ask them to move it.

Do you live opposite me? Fucking wheel clamp here too. Not like it ever goes anywhere😭

A rusty old cortina would be better than a fucking camper van. I think it’s a styrofoam model as it never moves.

Hr just likes to slam the doors about at 7.00 am.
