To be shocked that the BBC is silent on Iran?

posting for traffic here because I know that I’m not BU but I want to hear what others think.

Isn it a bit strange that the Islamic Republic is about to be toppled, Trump is threatening action if Khomeini attacks Iranian citizens en mass… and all the BBC can report on is the fire in Switzerland??

I only knew because of a BBC report yesterday?

PerkingFaintly · 09/01/2026 00:31

Goodness, a MN thread started by a namechanger solely to claim the media aren't reporting on something we're all watching in the media?

How unusual.Hmm

Stopbringingmicehome · 09/01/2026 00:32

It's been going on for ages, but the BBC is doing the absolute minimum

This 💯

I knew there’d be some clever people out there mentioning the paltry BBC article 😂

Don't worry, though, OP.

The BBC is still reporting on the Epstein files; on Donald Trump threatening Greenland; and on the killing by ICE of a Minnesotan mother.

So not only on the fire in Switzerland.

TempestTost · 09/01/2026 01:19

They have been a little quiet on the lead up to this. It's been building for a while but they've not been as on it as I'd expect.

I'm not sure that they are being negligent, incompetent also seems possible.

PerkingFaintly · 09/01/2026 01:41

But you're primarily following the Canadian media's coverage of Iran, @TempestTost , aren't you. (Unless you prefer US stations.)

As the BBC isn't your main source of info you won't have much sense of how much it's being covered by the BBC or in the UK generally.

canuckup · 09/01/2026 02:29

It's not, I just read about it

Even googled Noor Pahlavi

Dolamroth · 09/01/2026 06:22

God this again. Yes they are covering it. In both English and on their BBC Persian service.

Alltheyellowbirds · 09/01/2026 07:36

Radio Four (BBC) is discussing it at some length right now.

And again now on Radio Four, half an hour later.

Also all over the BBC website.

BBC News Iran

Which bit of the BBC are you engaging with OP?

It’s good to hear 👍

It’s the event of the century- if the people win, the Middle East will be more peaceful and prosperous. There’ll be more light in the world and less extremism.

It's being regularly reported on, and I listened to a report on the situation on BBC 5Live just 30 mins ago.

TheGoddessFrigg · 09/01/2026 09:07

I have just watched a news report on it this morning! On the BBC

It’s bizarre that so many OPs seem incapable of actually looking at the BBC news site before starting so many identical threads about this in various forums.

It’s really something, they are so brave. I hope they succeed and prosper.

I have just watched a lenghty report on Iran on Bbc breakfast and because news is on a loop it will come back round.

itsthetea · 09/01/2026 09:23

Silent? No the bbc isn’t silent - it’s on their front page so?

FolioQuarto · 09/01/2026 09:41

Radio Three have a brief news bulletin at 7 am, before they get back to classical music, leaving Radio Four to cover the news in depth. Iran was the second item today after the UK storm.
