To be shocked that the BBC is silent on Iran?

posting for traffic here because I know that I’m not BU but I want to hear what others think.

Isn it a bit strange that the Islamic Republic is about to be toppled, Trump is threatening action if Khomeini attacks Iranian citizens en mass… and all the BBC can report on is the fire in Switzerland??

Apparently the ayatollah has threatened Trump now

Which will go down well

Somehow this is some kind of astroturfing claim, right ?

I mean, BBC have been covering this since late December.

What’s the goal here OP ? Who’s interests are you trying to foist on us ?

Sadly this is the kind of crap that on other sites will get a lot of people believing and repeating these made up claims, which in itself is worrying.

Heartening the majority of MN posters are quick to see straight through this stuff, worrying that elsewhere it’d be taken as read and repeated on.

Changingplace · 09/01/2026 14:17

Oh OP you will be pleased, it’s the top news story on the BBC news app now, not 2nd

Trump was predicting the Ayatollah would flee, wasn't he? One of the few times I wish Trump was right.

These protests have been going on for 10 days, and the BBC had absolutely nothing on their news pages until yesterday. Yes, I have been checking. X is literally flooded with hundreds of videos taken, sometimes at considerable risk, by Iranians.
The BBC is either negligent or complicit, or possibly both.
This is disgraceful in a national broadcaster.

NeedForSpeedyGonzales · 09/01/2026 14:25

@RosaMundi27 then why can I clearly see daily posts for the last ten days on the BBC's article histories? It is open to you to see as well.

Look at that bbc not reporting for days.

Alltheyellowbirds · 09/01/2026 17:04

Was on Radio Four again just now…

kinkytoes · 09/01/2026 17:05

I wonder how many Trump haters will either ignore the fact he's standing up for the Iranian people, or take the Ayatollah's side because they can't possibly be seen to support Trump on anything.

He might be an idiot but he isn't always wrong.

Btw its fully the top story now OP.

It’s only “silent” if you don’t know what silent is.

It’s been all over the BBC and is currently the top story.

It sank down for a few days with the news out of the USA which is unsurprising but is back to top story.

Honestly anti-beeb bias leads people to say the most batshit things.

JHound · 09/01/2026 17:16

Stopbringingmicehome · 09/01/2026 00:32

It's been going on for ages, but the BBC is doing the absolute minimum

You mean not to reporting to your personal standards?

But not “silent”. I guess what you mean is why are any other stories on the Beeb except Iran.

Eh? What about all of these, multiple articles going back since the protests started. And plenty more Iran coverage before that.

Are you just looking at the front page or something? I can’t see how else you could be insisting there’s no coverage. There will generally only be one article on a specific topic on the front page at a time, because they are reporting on the whole world (not to mention everything happening in Britain). That doesn’t mean there aren’t many more pieces on that country’s page.

Alltheyellowbirds · 09/01/2026 17:44

Its’s on Radio Four AGAIN right now.

Just mentioned it to a friend who listens to Five and apparently it’s been on that multiple times too. And I would put my house on a bet that it’s been covered in great detail on the World Service.

Plus it’s of course been on the TV news and on their website as linked above.

OP I asked earlier which BBC service you engage with - you haven’t answered but clearly it’s not any of the above.

Even if this was true - which it patently is not - the BBC, very responsibly, won’t report on anything they can’t independently verify as true. A bunch of videos on X could be AI or reused footage from previously, and on that platform, both are very very often true. I’d much rather hear a verified account than some of the absolute nonsense spouted on social media - that’s what proper news reporting is.

Can you provide me with the screenshots showing that the BBC covered this on their website news page? I checked every single day for the previous 8 or 9 days and there was absolutely nothing. But don't take my word for it. Just have a look at all the other people, who also did the same.
And if you think that the BBC "verifies" everything they post for its veracity, I have a bridge to sell you.

Are you ignoring all the posts above linking you to the Iran coverage on the website? Here it is again for you. 29 pages of articles in date order for you to peruse.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/search?q=Iran&d=NEWS_PS&page=1&experiments=newswb_search20_hybrid%3Afalse

And this is in addition to the coverage on the BBC’s radio and TV channels, which are of course the BBC’s prime function.

Do you have a different google search from everybody else because if you search Bbc iran then scroll.and scroll there is articles going back to end of December, i am not helping you how will you learn if you don't do your own research.

PerkingFaintly · 09/01/2026 18:23

I can link the actual articles. I couldn't be bothered to go any further back, but anyone who wishes to can keep going. I didn't pick more than one article per day but there were plenty more to chose from.

The poster that claims they can't find this stuff on the BBC website is either not very good at using the internet... or there's another explanation for their post.

Yes the BBC do verify all news stories they publish, it’s why occasionally they’re accused as being slow to report or not cover something (obviously not the case here). It’s because they do verify stories by more than one source.

I assume you have no basic knowledge of journalism or media to believe these things? Are you getting your ‘news’ from X and YouTube?

There’s information here;
