To be shocked that the BBC is silent on Iran?

ShiaLeByeBye · 09/01/2026 00:25

posting for traffic here because I know that I’m not BU but I want to hear what others think.

Isn it a bit strange that the Islamic Republic is about to be toppled, Trump is threatening action if Khomeini attacks Iranian citizens en mass… and all the BBC can report on is the fire in Switzerland??

It’s literally the second story on the BBC news app and website.

Can you explain how that is ‘silent’? You’re making yourself look quite ridiculous OP, and you got the same replies to your thread yesterday too, do you think a new thread makes your unfounded claims any stronger because I don’t.

Changingplace · 09/01/2026 11:43

Quick screen grab of that in case OP can’t be bothered to actually check that.

This 💯

I knew there’d be some clever people out there mentioning the paltry BBC article 😂

And the BBC have reported on it for some time now - maybe you don't bother to seek out verified news from legitimate news websites like the BBC and just rely on squawking on social media. About a week ago, when the squawking of 'why aren't the BBC reporting this?' started, there was, indeed, news articles on their website regarding the rising protests and there have been ever since...

PerkingFaintly · 09/01/2026 11:59

Well MNers, guess what?

The OP has liked both my posts disagreeing with her.Hmm

OP, if you wanted a thread about Iran you could have just started one in good faith.

This stupid reverse-type shit to create click-bait and get the word "Iran" into the Active or Trending lists is deeply tedious. It's manipulative. And it's sneering at ordinary MNers.

You seem to think we're just here for you to toy with.

Goodness, a MN thread started by a namechanger solely to claim the media aren't reporting on something we're all watching in the media?

How unusual.Hmm

Most extraordinary.

It’s good to hear 👍

It’s the event of the century- if the people win, the Middle East will be more peaceful and prosperous. There’ll be more light in the world and less extremism.

Presumably you know a news source that is reporting more extensively, perhaps you could flag it up for us. If there is stuff going on not being covered by the BBC I'd really like to read about it. Thank you.

Abra1t · 09/01/2026 12:08

Just been first item on midday BBC R4 news.

EasternStandard · 09/01/2026 12:12

A good sign of the BBC taking an international situation seriously is Lyse Doucet on R4. She was on this morning. Not sure if it was the first coverage with her or if it was early enough.

But I’m glad they’ve got onto it now.

Changingplace · 09/01/2026 12:30

In OPs last thread they claimed it wasn’t being reported on any MSM, which was proved wrong with tonnes of links to a variety of articles from across multiple sources, I guess if nothing else they’re unwittingly spreading this information to anyone on MN who may have missed this situation in the news?

Thewonderfuleveryday · 09/01/2026 12:32

Christ's sake, stop talking crap. They've been covering / leading with it for at least the last two days. Possibly more but I was busy earlier in the week.

Paltry article? They were running a live feed with constant updates. Not a solitary report.

gamerchick · 09/01/2026 12:34

I swear we need a war section on here.

X123x321X · 09/01/2026 12:38

How much more coverage could there be?

chocolateychurros · 09/01/2026 12:39

Yanbu. I am Iranian and have no idea why they are not showing the true extent of what is going on over there. Please please everyone pray for our country.

If Iran doesn’t interest you, not sure why, but there’s a hide the thread option

There is and I'll use it.

It's weird to put them in here 'for traffic'. It flushes out the war ghouls. I'd like a section where it was contained and not forced on anyone.

Second one on my active convos which is funny because I've read a lot more than two stories about this today in the 'main stream media'.

More astroturfing/ai botting on mumsnet.

Chocolatey, is there anywhere where we can find out more? I hope your family and friends are safe.

Iceshine · 09/01/2026 13:21

I was watching it on GBnews live last night.

Stopbringingmicehome · 09/01/2026 13:23

The thing is that it's taken weeks for the BBC to report this , it's been simmering for months, and when the riots and protests really got going all the BBC reported for two weeks was about a fire o Switzerland. They are at least a month late with reporting on Iran

momahoho1 · 09/01/2026 13:24

It’s being reported but they have no reporters there so cannot verify information. They are careful not to report rumour that isn’t substantiated by reputable news sources. They are telling us what is verified

Changingplace · 09/01/2026 14:03

It was just on the Radio 2 news headlines.

Exactly, this is what people who think they’re getting their news from X and the like need to recognise, anyone can write anything on a social media platform, it doesn’t mean it’s accurately being reported.

MandingoAteMyBaby · 09/01/2026 14:06

Somehow this is some kind of astroturfing claim, right ?

I mean, BBC have been covering this since late December.

What’s the goal here OP ? Who’s interests are you trying to foist on us ?

To be shocked that the BBC is silent on Iran?

LostittoBostik · 09/01/2026 14:08

What do you mean by “silent”? It’s not on the Radio 2 breakfast show?

It’s covered on all serious news outlets they have.
