Is it normal to like the smell of your own farts

I said what I said, and my husband thinks it’s weird lol

I’m usually very impressed by my own, especially as I’ve grown older and windier 💨.

I don’t enjoy anyone else’s though.

I'm an adult . I don't find farts remotely funny. If that makes me not " very thrilling" I'm proud of the fact.

🤭

BasaFillet · 08/01/2026 19:12

I wouldn’t say I “like” the smell but I do usually sniff them - sometimes they smell “nice” but in a way where my brain is like hmm ok that’s a healthy fart - it could have a faint whiff of vegetables or something else I’ve eaten, and it doesn’t linger.

other times I get awful sulphur farts that are horrendous and I’m still trying to work out the trigger for those, they can clear a room 😂 sometimes my period farts smell like that!

interesring topic! 😂

I can’t stand bad smells and I get mortally offended when someone farts in my presence 🤢😂 especially the dog - her farts are absolutely howling!

Have you ever smelt a cat fart?
They are utterly, reprehensibly, coma inducingly disgusting 🫣

And once you find the trigger, do you eat more of it on occasion? Go on, be honest 🤣🤣

Getting high on your own supply Grin

😮😮😮. This is wonderful news. I’ve got a strong history of dementia on both sides of my family, but maybe my farts will protect me!

Iamacatslave · 08/01/2026 19:23

Yes. Especially after a bag of dried apricots.

AuDHDqueen · 08/01/2026 19:30

The ones that slightly burn on exit always smell the best

Hotafternoon · 08/01/2026 19:39

One of my friend's has IBD and I can honestly say her farts are in a class of their own, especially if trapped in the car with them.

She can't help it, when they need to come out, out they come but dear me, they can be vicious. 😂

Me too! I know when to pull back on certain foods when the Category A fart smell appears

DH has implemented a chickpea ban due to a category A car journey situation.

I think farts are the gift that keeps giving.

EMG1998 · 08/01/2026 19:45

Hilarious!!

Notashamed13 · 08/01/2026 19:47

Yanbu.....the nicer they smell to me, the ranker they are to everyone else 😃🤣

PoorUncleBarry · 08/01/2026 19:47

Before I was diagnosed and had help for lactose intolerance, I made the mistake of eating camembert at lunchtime in the city. I dropped some absolute rotters in John Lewis and couldn't escape myself 🤢 Other customers were not happy.

Notashamed13 · 08/01/2026 19:48

I find onions quite "unforgiving" 🤪

This is the type of wind I’m dealing with currently, burning

I stopped having onion bhajis from the Indian takeaway which were so gorgeous but the smell the following day was too much, they burnt on exit and enveloped you in the smell which took some minutes to reduce in strength.

devildeepbluesea · 08/01/2026 19:54

I definitely think it’s normal!

Although I do remember once, I ate a chilli made with pinto beans instead of kidney beans because that was all I had.

Honestly.

If I could’ve got away from my own arse that night I would have.

Perhaps you might think differently when you grow up.
I'm wondering whether MN has been taken over by 9 year old boys.

Christmaseree · 08/01/2026 19:58

Yes maybe when I get to 60 in three years I’ll suddenly change my personality.

Haha I'm most definitely not a 9yo boy but probably have the humour of one......has anyone ever eaten a "Crown (Chinese) Pear" and then had to go out and about?......the scene with HRH in the new BFG springs to mind 😄 they are that bad that my DD has affectionately re-christened them as "Fart Pears"

If you're so disgusted, why are you still on this thread? 🤔

notnow29 · 08/01/2026 20:00

Yes could smell my own all day. DH's though make me want to barf.

F-artichokes are the worst for it.

Seahorsesplendour · 08/01/2026 20:09

sorry to those who think it’s not very grown up … but in reality It’s human nature!!!

Our own smells (including the “bad ones” ) on a basic instinctual and sensory level are the greatest comfort to us … they’re the smells that have always been with us and smell is linked to so many important memories, feelings and emotions !

embrace it ladies (and gents 🤭 it’s all part of us!!!)
